Yesterday I heard a FoxNews host say that as they and their associates have often said, if Ronald Reagan were running today he couldn’t be elected. I disagree. America needs leadership and Ronald Reagan was a leader.
America needs leaders with conscience and with spines – and John Boehner and John McCain are lacking both, plus they are lacking integrity. Boehner has shown his ability to talk tough and cave dramatically getting nothing in return. McCain is a contumacious old sot still cashing in on his celebrity as a POW. Something, that I, as an unflinching supporter of our military, seriously question, but that’s a topic for another day.
Here’s my point. Would Ronald Reagan be a Tea Party candidate today? That’s a good question. The one thing we could count on from Ronald Reagan is that he would do what he promised. When he said he would do something, it would be done. When Ronald Reagan spoke of the American people, he spoke of a people he loved and respected. When Ronald Reagan looked at America, he saw the greatest country in the world, hampered by the worst politicians in the world (sic). Today there is a prevailing opinion that the politicians are the best in the world and America is their backdrop.
I believe Ronald Reagan embodied everything that the Tea Party is concerned about. He wasn’t afraid to put the interests of the people over the interests of politicians and special interest groups. He understood that more government and higher taxes weren’t the answer, less government, lower taxes, and a favorable climate for business to flourish is what is needed.
Ronald Reagan never in his life, took to the public airwaves and berated the American people – something Obama has made a practice of and something that Republican leadership does in surreptitious, left-handed, backdoor ways.
We will never have another Ronald Reagan, but we can have a person of conscience and a person with backbone. But whether or not that happens is up to us. We can continue to buy the lie of party hierarchy that promotes worthless candidates like Romney and Jeb Bush, and in the pass like Arlen Specter and Mike Castle.
It is up to us to stand firm. Let the party hierarchy be upset. We should not send our money to the Republican National Committee. We should not buy the lie of if don’t vote for their bad candidate, the liberal bad candidate will win. Ronald Reagan isn’t here today and quite honestly I think we do an injustice to his memory to inject him into today’s debate. The Tea Party is the voice of the people. It is comprised of persons from every walk of life and every political party.
My opinion, for what it is worth, is that the way we take control of things, is by taking control of things. We must demand that those we elect represent us. It is imperative we let congress know that we are watching and that contrary to what Obama condescendingly suggests, we do understand what is going on and we don’t approve. We must let them know that they are all replaceable. We must let them know that we’ve decided on the best term limits available today. We decided on term limits by performance, i.e. do what is best for us, be financially responsible, or be replaced in their next term.

It is time for the people to recognize that the media is very good at playing us. The old, play both ends against the middle. It’s all a smoke screen, they play the emotional issues, ie..Republican & Democrat , Black & White and get everyones hackles up. Stay focused on the real issues at hand, read about our founding fathers and the trials and tribulations that they went through. There were many tough moments and there were differences of opinions too. But they knew that for the sake of the people that they had to get it done, and they did. Did they make some mistakes, yes, but overall they stayed focused and stuck to their guns and got it done. At the end of the day, we are all Americans, God Bless you all, for all our differences, we can get it done. We need to prioritize, and get one thing done at a time. When you rebuild an old building you have two choices, you can cobble it together and do a Rube Goldberg job or you can gut the structure and rebuild it using those good old bones and make it look like it did in the beginning. In the case of America, we have gone off course, but it isn’t too late to make some adjustments and find our way again. We must put aside our differences and do what is good for all of us. Number one, is quit spending money you don’t have. Who’s kidding who, we can’t do this anymore. I say first things first, Term limits, two terms and you are done. Second, take away all of those perks and benefits. We all have a part in this, I’m as guilty as the next person. We have allowed this to happen and now we have to stop it before it is too late.
That’s a noble undertaking…I agree…albeit I favor making those who served their own interests as opposed to ours pay at the ballot box in the process…
Eisenhower said to beware of the industrial/military complex. He should have added the political/media complex.
sumitch: I thought he was talking about politicians and media…
You are exactly right Mychal. We need leaders and don’t have them. Congress is full of self-serving mouths working most of their time to stay in office. My job is job one is their motto. I’ve said for a long time that McCain deserves all the respect he gets for his bravery as a POW. But I hardly see how that qualifies him to be President (and he wasn’t much of a pilot either). And while on the McCain subject, please please news media, spare me the punishment of listening to his valley girl, know nothing daughter. Who decided that she has anything to say, much less anything intelligent?
All one needs to do is look at the picture of President Regan and see the pride in his country on his face and the honor he feels. Compare that to Obama with his arrogant nose stuck in the air, no doubt envisioning himself another ruler of Saudi Arabia, to see the difference in character. Throw a towel over his head and put him in a dress and see if there is any difference. Obama should be impeached for his disregard of the constitution (Clinton got the impeachment treatment for a little handy-panky in the oval office) and the rule of law and most of congress should be kicked out for letting him so what he has done and plans on doing in the future.
Unless the citizens take control and get off their collective butts and vote him out in 2012 along with most of the cocktail circuit crowd that makes up Congress, we can kiss this nation goodbye. And wouldn’t it be a shame to see two hundred years + of a proud nation and brave people relegated to another chapter in the history books. Thankfully I’m near the end of my journey and won’t have to see much of what I fear is coming. Sure, let’s spread the wealth. 10% for the sheep and 90% for King Obama..
sumitch: mccains botox mouthed dghtr is doing his bidding…first she trashed Sarah Palin for him…now she just engages in uncontrolled micturation from her mouth that is most often accompanied by that which can be a noun or a verb and obviously is the reason for her foul breath…
Prolly true Mychal, but McCain should at least pick someone that has a clue about something rather than a ditzy know nothing blond.
I had a professor in college that told us “if common sense makes good sense don’t try to make any other sense out of it.”
Ronald Reagan used common sense. That is what is lacking in our nations leadership today starting with the president on down. We need some “Common sense” in Washington.
what we need in washington is a broom and a toilet…sweep them up, put them in the toilet and flush them into sewer that empties onto a frigate bound for iran or somalia…
Rats. Should have used spell check before I posted the comment following this one.
Lewis Black, the comedian, has an idea. Every now and then we should go to D C and treat Congress to an afternoon of electric brain shock, just to keep them straight“. Get his C D and have a listen. Funny with points to ponder.
I don’t typically listen to comedy etc…

If Reagan was around today he might paraphrase himself, “I didn’t leave the Republican Party, they left me.” I believe he would be a force to take the TEA Party to success over the two long time but now mainly useless parties.
I think Ronald Reagan could win anytime he ran…
Yes, it exactly right. Very good Mychal, read and shared.
I believe if Former President Ronald Reagan was running for President today and was as youthful as he was when he won the first presidental election, he would win. He would beat Obama.. no doubt!!
