Let there be no doubt, I’ve got issues with the airlines, as everyone who has scheduled a flight for me is well aware. My dictates are do not book me on United or anything owned by them and under no circumstances route me through Chicago, even if means another 48 hours is added to my travel time.
As much as I have enjoyed the truly, truly, wonderful people at Southwest Airlines, on my return trip from Oakland, CA, in September – it took only one flight attendant who must have mistook my features for one of her Pacific Rim relatives – and made the mistake of treating me as she would an ex-husband, if she were able to find someone interested in a woman with a classically miserable disposition, who wears makeup like one of the early French Queens who wore the same makeup their entire life – adding layer after layer, but never removing it.
The flight attendant did her level best to taunt me into a situation that would have resulted in my expulsion from the plane. The flight attendant in charge turned out to be a bigger liar than Obama – which was easily verified when I asked an unsuspecting Southwest employee at the terminal when I changed flights. And Missy, the customer service person I spoke to in Dallas, was without question, the most offensive, ignorant, poorly educated, and patently poor example of professionalism I have ever in my lifetime experienced. I will now take my complaint is Jim Ruppert, the Vice President of Customer Relations for Southwest Airlines, and failing to get satisfaction on his level my next stop is board of directors and a national campaign to isolate and identify hostile airline environments.
Without question my experience was rivaled as the worst two experiences of my adult life – one when the night desk employee at the Ramada Inn in Perrysville, Ohio – drew a knife in denying my son and I lodging in a near empty hotel, for no other reason than the color of our skin. The other nightmarish experience in my life that I can compare it to was the election of Obama.
I’ve shared my experience and my efforts to get satisfaction sans the introduction of my attorneys. My efforts are made on my own time, at my own expense, and for valid reasons. But, if I were United States senator, and was upset over the inconvenience of not having enough room the overhead bins because of increased carry-on – I’d simply have my staff write legislation for me to introduce, that would mandate airlines offer one checked bag for free.
And that is exactly Democrat senators Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Benjamin Cardin of Maryland did. Of course rather than being truthful and saying the legislation is about their being personally inconvenienced, they claim it’s about an altruistic concern for passengers.
Of course they paraded out the obligatory props to prove validation for their actions – a businessman who works in Washington, D.C. and lives in California, complained that unless you are one of the first boarders, the overhead bins will be full. Janet Napolitano, the same woman who told us the borders were safer than at anytime in history – right up until we found out America border agents were being murdered by Mexican drug cartels with guns her department surely had to be aware were coming from Fast and Furious – claimed checked bags were declining but the volume and cost associated with screening carry-on bags was increasing.
It must be nice to simply write a bill for anything you deem an inconvenience and/or a bother. But, that’s not my understanding of why we send people to Washington. My understanding is they are elected to represent our interests to the fullest of their capabilities. That said, how does writing frivolous self-serving legislation accomplish that? I am a demonstrative opponent in the condemnation of steroids and/or performance enhancing drugs – but was it the business of Congress to get involved in how major league baseball handled it? The Sandusky child molestation case at Penn State is horrific and demands to be addressed. But is it the job of Congress, or the job of the NCAA, the schools themselves and the State and local authorities?
Is it necessary for me to point out that Congress has accomplished less then nothing, and the Senate under Democrat control since Bush, has accomplished even less than that. Congress has been unable to address the least of our concerns, but Landrieu and Cardin think it is imperative to address legislatively persons with carry-on bags.
You may be thinking that Congress has other more important things to address – I’m thinking that this is emblematic of Congressional meddling that has contributed to destroying our economy, undermining our ability to raise our families without government interference, pushed homosexuality on elementary school students, subverted the Constitution, and eroded our traditional value systems. I’m thinking that this validates our Founding Fathers understanding that limited government was essential. Not the bloated, intrusive, do nothing leviathan we have today that is hellbent and determined to control over facet of our lives.

Good Night Sir, and consider my invitation to be our guest should you ever be in South Central Texas – we would consider your company an Honor.

I have a question that’s been bugging me for a long time and can’t seem to find an outlet to put it out there and possibly get an answer. Question is….If Kavorkian is jailed for assisting the terminally ill in ending their lives, what recourse do the elderly people in the USA have if Obamacare goes into effect. It is a fact that care for the elderly WILL be decided by others on whether they are ‘fit’ to live or let die. Can those families bring a class action law suit against our Congressmen that voted for Obamacare…or Obama himself….or the courts if they upheld this????? Obamacare is just so wrong for every living person. There would have to be some recourse for people. Thanks.
christel: I had to fight 7 doctors in two week period to keep my mother alive back in february…they did everything they could to force me to let her die…one doctor actually told me if we were in england the decision would be taken out of my hands…I had one doctor removed and explained to the others what I expected…specific to your question…if it becomes law…it would take a monumental effort at the very least…
Very sad to have to go through that. We love our parents and when God is ready to take them he will….meanwhile the doctors need to do all that is humanly possible to help them live. For that one doctor….maybe he should go practice in England. We’re not a socialist country, yet, and we shouldn’t be treated as such. I’ve lost both my parents, but I thank God for the doctors that did their best not to just let them die. I fear for my own future in the USA.
christel: suffice it to say that I explained my position…as I said I had one doctor relieved…that was right after I drafted a letter to all of the particulars including to the head of the care facility my mother is in, the head of elected official in charge of same…and cc’d my attorney…things got settled very quickly at that point…but its the fact that I had to go through it…my point is how many people are subjected to same and simply accept what the doctor is saying because they trust the doctor…
Mychal,
Your frustration is clearly coming through. I am very frustrated as well, until the point that i was screaming at my family, and my high blood pressure was even more elevated. At some point, i realized that i was punishing myself for things beyond my control.
Short of blowing up Washington, which is probably the only solution because it might be impossible to reteach DC to be uncorrupt and unself-serving, we have to let flow off the anxiety that comes from seeing our country being sucked down the drain, morally and financially. At some point, corrections will take place, but maybe at the cost of human lives. Some people cannot be convinced that what they are doing is destroying other’s lives unless revolution removes them. This may be the case. In many instances in history, destruction was necessary in order to rebuild. This removes the filth, the squalor, the misguided thinking.
It will happen one way or another.
dave buls: Jefferson emphasized that there was a time to take matters into our own hands…the way to do that is by refusing to play by their rules…vote them out and do not give them our money or our votes…support our candidates only…but it takes many of us pulling together…unfortunately there are many who buy the party lie that we have to support losers the party puts up…
Mr. Massie,
First – You are the ONE and ONLY Political Commentator I read on a daily basis, then pass on to my Family and Friends. Keep up the good work!
Secondly, I need not sing to the choir, but I agree totally that our 1st line of defence is in the Ballot Box. I Preach this Daily. Should this fail and bho and his supporters remain in power, I honestly feel that those of us who care about this Nation will have a HORRIFIC decision to make – let things alone, be satisfied with detestible / traitorous service from our elected “leaders”, or do every SINGLE thing in our power to stop them.
To this Nation’s true supporters, this is a terrible decision to make!
Most of us have Families, all are Patriots, and more than a few have Served (as have I – Six Years, Officer Corps, US Army). In other words, we have a STAKE in this Nation, and hesitate to starting a War here!
I’ve seen War. No matter what “the left” thinks, this is nothing we EVER want again to see on this Continent.
Twice before we have fought against a tyranical Central (Royal then Federal) power. It could EASILY happen again.
By the way – as a Texan, I assure you DAMN FEW here who answered the call was a slave owner, or gave a SPIT for anyone who was – for us, the issue was a Federal Power dictating how we would lead our lives. It went against our grain then, just as it does today.
Remember – in 1836 we were a REPUBLIC, and to this day retain the (only) Right to succeed from the Union.
We’re an independent lot.
I do not advocate Succession, but rather bring this to your attention to illustrate a point – we Texans have VERY little regard for outside influence or control.
Okay – NONE. ZERO. ZIP. NADA.
Call me if you think you can change my mind – bho and his left wing minnions HAVE to GO!

steve tanner: you’ve said nothing I disagree w/…I have long advocated the organized stopping of political opportunists…that can only be done by refusing both parties…it can only be done by uniting in our opposition and in our voting…if I had been listened to we would have voted them out long ago…and voted them out every term until they got the idea we mean business…boehner, kyl, cantor, mccain, o’connell, hatch, and the rest of them need to be bounced out…we don’t need money to do that…we need willing men and women to stand up and vote against the political grain…
Mr. Massie – YOU Sir, and I are Blood Brothers. I have so little regard for the self-serving “professional politicians” that if I could find one in the headlights of my truck I would Thank the Good Lord.
Right, Left, Center, whatever – if they are not standing up for OUR NATION, and OUR CONSTITUTION, they need to quietly pack their bags, and turn in their resignations.
I often wonder how these self serving “professional politicians” manage to look themselves in a mirror.
Note: This is NOT to say that ALL Politicians are worthy of my contempt, but the disease is so rampant that it is difficult to mention the word “politician” without implying the word “disgust”.
I flew (Helicopters) for a living for more than 30 Years, and have met PLENTY “politicians”. To date, I have yet to meet one I would consider worthy of my Respect. Some I have NOT met are candidates – Mr. Cain chief among them, thought there may be others.
Mr. Massie – Keep Up the Good Work!
Steve Tanner
steve tanner: the depth of contempt I have for those people cannot be expressed here…they are worthy harshest penalties…and I’d like to be in charge of appointing people to carry it out…the only thing worse than the politicians are the ones who keep electing them or those just like them…and I make no apology for my feelings neither do I retreat from said opinion…
Mr. Massie,
YES SIR, YES SIR, and THANK YOU SIR.
Thank GOD for persons such as yourself, willing and able to bring Truth to the American Public, whether they want to hear it or not!
Steve Tanner
Tonight I’m thankful that I have lived during the best times of this nation. And it’s been a good life.
I’m sick of hearing the politicians whinning that we are spending our grandchildren’s future. Who’s this we they’re talking about?
I didn’t send our troops to fight France’s war to keep them in oil. I didn’t raid Social Security and use the money to buy the votes to keep me in office. I didn’t work hard (has anyone ever worked easy?)late at night in the smoke filled rooms to pass legislation that put me on easy street at the expense of the people that believed my lies and voted me into office. I didn’t vote for the criminal that sat in church for 20 years and say “I wasn’t paying attention” when my nation was damned. I’m not the one that blames anyone handy for my screw ups.
Who is John Galt?
sumitch: I wish my son could have experienced the life I had growing up…
sumitch – I suspect you and I lived and worked through the same timeframe.
I am proud to have done so, as I am sure you are also. My Children are aged 16 – 30 (6 of the little devils!). My
FEAR is that THEIR children will not experience the same opportunities that I and they have, that they will live in a Nation I would not recognize.
This is my fear, and this is my concern.
Steve Tanner
steve tanner: I understand completely…just keep in mind that God has already determined how it will all end…I trust Him to ultimately work it all out…that said I have one child and I too want the best for him…
Yessir – you Sir are of course right. I do not limit my mind to the here and now, but allow for the next world for myself and all those who choose to do ill.
I’m not perfect, for no Man or Woman is, but i’ll gladly take my chances in the World to come!
Mr. Massie – if you and your Family are ever in our area of the world (East Bernard, Texas 77435), we would consider it an Honor to have you as our Guests, for as long as you care to stay.
Respectfully,
Steve / Shannon / Austin / Anne / Rachel / Ryan / Skylar / Hunter
Mychal; Congress is as Congress does. Back-scratching, money grabbing, backside kissing, traitorous hypocrits. Congress = Judicial gathering of lawmakers. HAH!! Just leaches, preying on the very people who elect them.
Ginny – you’re right. Shame on us.
sumitch: agreed…
ginny: and the people allow them to get away w/ it…
Good article Mychal. I read all the things my conservative, great American, friends say on this, and other blogs; and I keep wondering when we’re going to realize that nothing is going to change in the dismal DC swamp until the real American people ARM UP and STAND UP and GET TO WORK putting this nation back on the right track. We’re on the precipice of disaster as the “poor” (read lazy socialist bastards of all colors and incomes) get closer and closer to having a voting majority in America. When that happens, it’s over! It will either be (1) fight another civil war, or (2) put your head in a stanchion and let the non-taxpaying 51% milk you for all they can get, aided by the dirty greedy communist unions and the college professors. What’s it gonna be? The TSA, the FBI, the Federal Marshals, the IRS, are only short steps away from being a new Gestapo — and believe me, it won’t bother their conscience any to do it. Their aren’t many people working for the Federal Jackass today who would jeopardize their positions or retirement stake just to defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
Like I’ve said somewhere else. I’m glad and probably won’t have to see it happen. But it will happen. When they come for our guns, it’s over unless the military stands with us.
sumitch: they’re going to be much more surreptitious than that…the plan to make a nationwide reciprocal structure for carry permits has lot of people cheering…what they don’t understand is that it is a trick to seize control of same…
Mr. Masssie,
YESSIR! Sounds good on the surface, but what few recognoze is that additional Federal Control / Involvement is NOT a good thing, and frankly is AGAINST our Constitution!
“Those Rights Not” – these are POWERFUL words, and have kept this Nation free of tyranny for 235+ Years.
Start allowing the Centrist / Federal / Royalist / Socialist “government” Rights they do not Lawfully possess, and before very much longer, all who wish to live their own lives are Slaves to a power they did not wish into power.
This has ZERO to do with skin color, age, education, origin, ethnicity, or gender – this is all about POWER and CONTROL.
Trust me on this – those ASSHOLES could not give one shit whether you or I Live of Die.

stephen tanner: it doesn’t sound good on the surface if you know what you’re hearing…there’s a reason the framers set forth enumerated powers…and you’re right it is about power…and the retention of same for those who crave it for nefarious self-serving reasons…
Who is John Galt?
-Ayn Rand circa the 1950′s. From Atlas Shrugged.
It’s closer to true now more than ever.
sumitch: good read…
eats many turtles: you have said nothing for me to disagree w/…
When the Dems seized control of Congress in 2006 (thru their lying & manipulation of the voters-I wasn’t one of them) the first thing they did was hold hearing about steroids in baseball. At the time, I remarked to my sister-who’s a baseball fan like our father who pitched an exhibition game vs. the Washington Senators when he was stationed @ Ft. Belvoir- “you know, it’s just like the Democrats to turn on the American people- they have had that in their history since the 1860′s.” Under Obama, the oppression has gotten worse, that it’s becoming a hostile environment-and I thought it was bad when the Clintonistas turned the IRS into a police faction-for oppositon to their grandiose posturing. Believe me, the Dems do not have the best interests of the American people as their objective. Thank you Mychal for your site where we conservatives can share information. I know the conservative movement is alive & well thru our connections. We should **NEVER** vote another Democrat in office again – send them the way of the Whigs!!
chris: this site exists for you to share information and express yourself freely…that said not only should we not vote for dems but there are a lot of repubs we should not vote for either…
I don’t understand all the complaints against our Most Beneficent TSA, after all they have just announced some relaxing of security measures to facilitate holiday travel. Our local TSA spokesperson cheerfully announced on local TV that passengers under twelve years old will no longer be required to remove their shoes when going through security. I had the impression she thought that was very magnanimous of them to initiate such dangerous steps just so the sheep wouldn’t have to stand in long lines quite so long. I’m not joking.
Speaking of congressional misuse of their time and our dime, their efforts on the critical national defense and budget issue of mandating what kind of light bulbs we can buy for use in our own homes almost takes the Ridiculous Cake. Almost.
The nest of corruptocrats from both sides of the aisle, different agencies, and the White House, must be cleaned out and either sent home or to prison. Most of them deserve the latter.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.
wakinyan: the light bulbs was a george bush initiative…
Right on again, Mychal! Our work ethic in this country is becoming more and more deplorable, which is why it is so difficult to find reasonable professionals to deal with. PS I’m sure you also agree that so many of our elected “government” officials are superfluous and giant money suckers. How nice would it be, in this day and age of the internet, to have “we the people” vote on ALL of the issues, that way some of the things that get “sneaked” past us would not happen.
deb: they are giant money suckers of our money…
Mr. Massie, You are wonderful; keep up the great work and get a regular booking on The O’Reilly Factor like my other favorite conservatives, Charles Krauthammer, Bernie Goldberg and Dennis Miller. Thanks again for your intellect and pasion. JB
J W, I’m glad you didn’t leave out my favorite. The converted to sanity Dennis Miller. I’d bet up to 50 cents that the dunderheads don’t even realize they are being insulted and made fun of. If only I didn’t have to suffer through the only man living that is more arrogant than Barry O., the always right tough guy Bill O’reilly. If I watch him and Hannity the same night, I lose my cookies every time.
sumitch: I no longer watch either of them…
j w bauer: charles krauthammer is not a conservative…he’s anything but…he was part of carter’s administration, he was part of george mcgovern’s election staff, he ridiculed Reagan, he slammed Palin, he scorns Herman Cain, he is anti-Tea Party…and bernie goldberg isn’t a conservative he’s a kennedy democrat…
Mychal, as you know this has been a problem for a very long time. I have recently had to retire due to disability (which is neither here nor there). However, I have found the time finally to open my eyes and see what I thought “HONEST and TRUSTWORTHY” Representatives of our great States were really doing to our Government and Constitution. Today it’s just a word, Constitution, another part that has been destroyed by today’s Governmental “Elite” are the binding words, “so help me God”. I agree that an inconvenience at the airport can effect the entire population because the self serving Liars we trusted and voted into office consider themselves Royalty. Look at Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker of the House was given (she certainly didn’t earn it) in excess of $250 thousand dollars a year. Because she refused to move to her job she was given a 747 jumbo jet to fly her non working self from DC to San Francisco. I can go on and on with this stuff, so can you. Our dilemma is Mychal, How do we stop this insane abuse and get this back under control? Short of becoming Revolutionists and force them out. Perhaps you have some thoughts to share with me because I am afraid we will start being placed in “internment camps” for our own good. Where does this stop?
Thank you
David J Carrier
First Sergeant US Army (Retired)
david j carrier: welcome to the matrix…we must join as a collective and vote out the losers…we must realize that the republican hierarchy and the rove-bush faction are not our friends…we must w/hold our money from the parties giving directly to the candidate of our choice….and most importantly we must stop falling for the same republican lies…people listen to them like they were hanoi hannah or tokyo rose…the people have to wake up to the propaganda lies…
Since I started reading “The Daily Rant” on a daily basis, my disposition has improved noticeably.
On the topic of our new self-appointed masters (they pick their voters, not the other way around) –> name 3 things govt does well. Don’t count any that include “Squander OP’s money”, or “lie, cheat, steal” – or if someone else can do them significantly better and cheaper.
I can’t stand politicians with a god complex. They think they can create heaven on earth through the power and force of government. They think they can make a law to right any wrong including fixing bag space on airplanes.
Things to be thankful for: I can’t afford to fly because we are not on welfare (I don’t know if any of them save enough money or are able to sell enough to afford a ticket.) We do not ‘pose’ as beggars (I’ve personally witnessed people making HUNDREDS of $$ per day begging.) We take even the education of our children completely upon ourselves(not to dismiss the help and encouragement of others but NO credit to the dept. of ‘edgicashun’ whom we support withour taxes but do not USE.) and we are experiencing the benefits of such a ‘poor’ lifestyle in a WONDERFUL way we only imagined before we were MARRIED (which we did not imagine being quite so poor. :) We give all Glory and Honor to God who through Jesus the Christ has provided above and beyond our hopes and dreams. p.s. we have two wonderful adult children who were also amazing teens and we now have two more teens who are becoming amazing God-fearing adults. Not because we are doing everthing right but because we have relied on God to cause us to see the real truth. The best education would seem to be simply a critically reasonable search for God’s truth.
THANK YOU, Mr. Massie for your blog. You are a BIG encouragement by telling things RIGHTLY.
Right on, Mychal! While you were ranting, I was ranting as well, at the sight of Obama’s finger pointing at Congress and all of us for not doing a better job of running our country. I really believe that he is turning us against each other and the ‘dumbing down’ of our society is almost complete. At an airline, or anywhere, it’s hard to find a person who is “happy”… I hope we can all look past this, to brotherly love and a Happy Thanksgiving… whether Obama likes it or not !!
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless.
Mychal:
Let me “second” your airline comments.
My wife and I had the ill-fortune to be routed through O’Hare a few weeks ago on a flight from Europe. We, and about 800 others, waited 45 minutes to get through passport control, resulting a lost connection to LA. The lack of professional competence by this government agency is appalling.
In addition the physical layout of this miserable airport mandates that a minimum of two hours must be budgeted for connections from overseas. Truly, an airport to be avoided.
We then had the ill-fortune of being booked on a UA 757. (Boeing should never have allowed UA to configure their planes into this hellish sardine can.)
The cram factor was such that any movement was impossible. That, coupled with almost no flight amenities and long restroom waits, made this one of the most miserable flights we have experienced in our millions of miles flown.
Truly Mychal, I concur with your assessment of UA as an airline to be avoided.
Please keep us informed of your quest for the satisfaction of your grievances. We are grateful that you are taking the effort to demand competence, professionalism and service from this industry that, clearly, has forgotten the meaning of the word.
My personal ‘never fly’ airlines is American who kept Southwest from flying out of Love Field so they could keep their inflated rates high, thereby costing the comsumers millions of dollars. Parenthetically, Delta used to be the best Airline in the air. Now it’s just another bus with wings.
The clowns in D.C. can’t find the will to get our debt under control, but can grandstand about airlines fees. They should let good citizens like yourself and me to fight the airlines. Stop legislating market conditions. Have the wonderful sponsors of this bill look at airline profitability?
Look what happened all of the banks, who imposed fees on debit card usage. The market reacted and the banks eliminated the fees almost immediately..
And lose the opportunity of free face time? They could care less about We the People and nothing else but We the Congress. Remember the time Congress spent sticking their collective noses into the confrontation over pulling the plug on that poor lady in Flordia, Terry Shivo? It’s truly amazing the percs and immunities they have granted themselves under the cover of night and the back room deals such as automatic pay raises every year without any meetings or hearings. Who said we don’t have a ruling class?
Omg! Mychal, you crack me up. As I sit in the Memphis airport I
Laugh uncontrollably at the “audacity” of some. Yep, congress included.
But, the audacity of the woman in front of me when we went thru security
To hold up the whole line just because she wanted to finish her water!!!
Blessings to you and yours.
