It’s Not About Guns, It’s About Control

Rational thinking people, who seem to be overwhelming conservative, have been arguing that writing more gun control laws will do nothing to stop mass murderers. They recognize that sociopaths like Adam Lanza, Seung-Hui Cho, or Harris & Klebold would not have been stopped by the gun control laws being proposed today. In order to stop some of our past mass murderers, you would also have to write laws to control the sale of fertilizer (Timothy Mcveigh), knives (Jack the Ripper), and all sorts of chemicals (Saddam Hussein).

C.S. Lewis once said that you can’t write laws fast enough to control people that won’t control themselves. In a very unusual twist of fate, Vice President Joe Biden agreed with C.S. Lewis. On January 31st, Joltin’ Joe Biden stated to a group of reporters:

Nothing we’re going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now…

FAMSU160Really? Well then can our astute Vice President please tell us why we need these laws? If they won’t do anything to alter or eliminate mass shootings, why are our legislators wasting time arguing about them? Don’t they have anything better to do – like perhaps trying to pass a budget? The truth is that the gun control laws will control some people – not sociopaths, criminals, or mass murders – they will control law-abiding citizens. But…it’s not the law-abiding citizens that are committing these heinous crimes. Rational thinking people realize this.

Apparently there isn’t any shortage of irrational thinking liberals. This morning I heard Bob Beckel arguing for background checks. Beckel said, “What impedes someone’s rights to buy a gun by having a background check?” Beckel may have been right in this instance but even a broken clock is right twice a day. While this statement made by Beckel is rational, the irrationality comes in when the same man will argue that Voter ID laws impeded someone’s right to vote.

Well-intentioned people may argue for more gun control but their arguments seldom would affect criminals – and after all, that is supposed to be the purpose of gun control laws. What gun control laws do effectively is create more ways for an ever-increasing government to exercise control over its citizens. So, if Vice President Biden understands that gun control laws will not allay violence and mass murders, such as the horror of Sandy Hook, but still advocates for more control, we should be asking ourselves exactly what kind of control is he advocating for? As a free-thinking and liberty-loving Christian American, the only control I yield to is that from Almighty God. And – despite rumors to the contrary – that is not Barack Hussein Obama – no matter how many rainbows he has painted above his head on flags.

Rosanne, you have brought up many great points and far reaching…. It is not only in the US we are observing the demise of rationality and a rise of corruption. Laws to bind reason citizen into a prison of void and no thoughts allowed.
The means for the few to rule the majority… The fight has to be continued, we have to continue to stand up for the RIGHT to intellect thought and expression without being suppressed.

I saw this quote, not sure who said it, but I think it’s very fitting. Most “progressives” have no idea about personal responsibility.

“Responsibility is a unique concept; it can only reside and inhere within a single individual. You may delegate it but it is still with you. You may share it with others but your portion is not diminished. You many disclaim it but you cannot divest yourself of it. Even if you do not recognize it or admit its presence, you cannot escape it. If the responsibility is rightfully yours, no evasion or ignorance or passing the blame can shift the burden to someone else.”

It was a sophistic question on Beckel’s part. I didn’t hear the program, but I doubt that anyone pointed this out. The question should have been reworded and put back in his lap: What impedes someone’s _freedom_ to buy a gun by having a background check?

The stopped clock wasn’t right in this case; it was specious. To say the least, it lacked merit, but it does put the spotlight on the unsound reasoning of the left.

Excellent article Rosanne! The title really says it all, but I certainly enjoed the rest of the read!.

And speaking of “rainbows”… “Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

That’s great, Anthony…LOL…at least in OZ the witches were clearly defined.

Roseann, Thanks for the article.. It is clear to anyone who would only open their eyes what the agenda of this administration is… The liberal agenda is all about control. They do not like the second amendment because at its core it speaks of mans rights of self determination, and of “the peoples” right to throw off the yoke of a tyranical government….
the liberal agenda is to take advantage of any event that would further their longer term goals of limiting “the peoples” rights by increasing government controls.. What you allude to here is nothing less that a very thinly vailed attack on the second ammendment by expoiting events perpatrated by the criminaly insane, and using said events to demonize guns and gun owners.. It never ceases to amaze me how the liberal mind works (I would use the term “liberal logic” except it’s really not logical, and totally self serving). Because “we” can not explain or understand (and therfore control) how or why any human being would commit these insane acts of mass murder upon other humans (especially children) then we must find the next best thing… Blame the guns.. It doesn’t matter that more people are killed by automobiles (and many other means) every year (by far) than guns… These facts are irrelevant to the liberal since it is not people who drive cars that they fear. It is people with guns that they fear since they realize that a well informed, intellegent and armed public is the biggest threat to their achieving their goals of total control and domination of the people.

If I believed in cloning, Bob, I’d be trying to recruit you as a donor right now. This country needs more Bobs.

Roseann, you bring up very good points for discussion. Thank you. This entire subject has been hashed and re-hashed over the years. Congress once weighed in on The Constitution and deemed the 2nd Amendment would not be tarnished. But, various laws have been built around that very important Amendment by none other than our Congressmen/ladies and Presidents. Depending on what was happening during their voting period, it always came back to stepping on honest, responsible gun owners toes to enforce stringent gun laws. Today, we have a president and an Ms. Feinstein who have been waiting in the wings for just such a chance to step in and remove guns from the law-abiding Citizens – Never mind the criminals or those who committed atrocities with their illegal guns. Sandy Hook opened the door for the president to make his known remarks of removing guns from American’s hands a reality. He is an opportunist. Feinstein has a bone to pick and she is blaming every gun owner for each gun violation. She forgets (or does she?) that it was overly medicated or hard core criminals who murdered people and NOT the entire nation of honest, law-abiding gun owners. This entire circus about gun owners is a farce to remove all American’s guns. “Give politicians an inch and they will take a mile!” And, who does Obama and Feinstein think they are fooling? Registration of honest gun owners is nothing but a ploy to having the names and addresses of gun locations and the next crisis will be total gun removal. As you said, the entire fracas is about “Control.” We can’t let that happen, and that is why many States are protecting their gun owners. Texas comes to mind. We can only feel one emotion at a time so I refuse to feel fear but confidence. Confidence makes me feel assured that no one will remove any private property or lives. “We have nothing to fear but fear itself!”

    • RoseAnn February 6, 2013 at 3:49 pm #

You are so right, Marilyn. The Bible tells us that the fear of man is a trap. Sometimes I feel like I’m stating the obvious, but it seems that so many are thinking these things, they just need somebody to say it out loud.

A wise friend of mine who is a pastor in an urban area always tells her congregation to stop acting like victims and start acting like victors. It’s amazing what that frame of mind can accomplish.

    • pblee February 8, 2013 at 2:09 pm #

Give a politician an inch and he’ll take a mile? Give him an inch and he thinks he’s a ruler.

Roseann I always enjoy reading your comments which I feel are written from commonsense, not emotional dialogue, that of course appears to be viral in all of our media and public officials. I received a great quote from my nephew from UK who is following our issues over here with more of a passion than many Americans. That is because in England the citizens have lost control. which are astutely mentioned in the lyrics in the song " Time" by Pink Floyd "Hanging on in quiet Desperation is the English way" I am an immigrant from England. However here is the quote.

"We have a mental health problem being masked as a gun control problem and we have a tyranny problem being masked as a security problem."

    • Bob February 6, 2013 at 3:04 pm #

      Marilyn, Well said. Thanks.

    • RoseAnn February 6, 2013 at 3:51 pm #

Thank you, Trish. Sounds like your nephew has a bit of common sense himself. Our problem here in America is that we have allowed the illogical arguments to be the loudest.

  9. SunnyVee February 6, 2013 at 10:40 am #

Right on, Rosann! These same duplicitous “leaders” want us to give up our guns, while they keep their’s! I have a very over-active imagination, but it is stretching its limits in trying to think of what area of my home and life this overly-invasive government is NOT in! I am sick to death of it, as it grows more giant tentacles and reaches into every nook and cranny possible, while continuing to keep its pig-shaped fist in my pocket and wallet!

    • RoseAnn February 6, 2013 at 3:53 pm #

Unfortunately, you’re not paranoid. One of the biggest problems I faced when I saw what was happening to this country back in the ’90s was that no one would believe me. I often heard “that will never happen here.” Well, it has.

More unfortunate, if the powers that be manage to take away our guns, I fear everyone will learn just how many liberties they have truly lost.

  10. Bob barnes February 6, 2013 at 9:36 am #

Well said! Perhaps the VP unwittingly exposed the foolishness. Thanks to all right thinking people for continuing to resist the Fasciistic efforts of the administration.

    • RoseAnn February 6, 2013 at 3:55 pm #

The problem Biden has is a problem for many liars – you have to keep track of your lies. Every once in a while, Biden doesn’t do that and the truth slips out.

Until We the People stand up to the three governmental bodies there will be no change inside the beltway. These elected people are employees It's time to make them understand that they are only employees and we will not tolerate the micromanaging of our lives. Especially when it comes to misinterpreting our Constitution and legislating our God given rights away. They work for us and if they think otherwise then they must be replaced with Patriots who understand what our great country is and that it must be maintained a free Union that allows us to maintain our God given rights. We must not tolerate infractions against the Constitution of the United States and we must now take a stand to preserve our freedoms as stated in the Constitution.

    • RoseAnn February 6, 2013 at 4:00 pm #

Our three branches of government were designed to be a check and balance system. Now they have become a rubber stamp system. They make their deals and “play-along-to-get-along” – by doing that, none of them are held accountable. To make matters worse, the media, which was supposed to be our watchdog, has become part of the problem and does not do the job it was protected to do in our First Amendment.

We have two champions left – and they are significant: We the People and Almighty God. But we have to realize that it is up to us and God and stop begging our three branches to do what is right.

How TRUE! The thing that seems so right is the thing that goes so wrong when it is power-mad, money-hungry control freaks at the helm! They are such good liars, also; deceive, confiscate, and control.

Paul Harvey had a good clip from about forty-seven years ago that is now again making the rounds, called, “If I Were The Devil.” Worth a listen! That is the path this country took.

JoAnn, you got that right. But it’s worse – add to that charisma that translates well over the airwaves and the illusion they perpetuate is hard to overcome. In today’s day and age, I doubt that someone like Lincoln would be electable. Unitl we learn to look beyond what these characters say and what they appear to be to what they do, we’re doomed to keep falling for their illusions day after day.
