I love guns. I grew up around them and enjoyed using them in my early childhood. Today my friends and I hold guns right up there with premium vintage cigars and for my friends who drink (I do not), guns are right up there with Lagavulin, Glennfiddich, Hibicki, and/or Louis XIII Cognac.
How long before the Obama White House decides to tell us we do not need to enjoy such exclusive and expensive Cognacs and Irish Whiskeys? How long before they think there should be restrictions placed upon the alcohol of choice my friends enjoy? They are already feverishly working to restrict through taxation our right to enjoy premium cigars.
Here’s my point. Anti-gun advocates and anti-whatever advocates have always stooped to lie about the threat involved pursuant to whatever it is they are against. And there has been no more pernicious and prolific liar than Obama. What is laughable, if the so-called media were not such sycophants for Obama, is him being such a pathetic liar. His lies are as obvious as is the fact that he is a petulant little sissy occupying a position for which he is not qualified. But then, the people who believe he is doing a good job are also the ones who believe his lies about guns.
The most simplistic definition for an automatic weapon I can give is the following: An automatic weapon (be it pistol or rifle) is a firearm which requires you to squeeze the trigger one time and keep it squeezed until you hear clicking but nothing going “boom or pow.” In other words, until it is empty. Likewise, a semi-automatic is one that you must squeeze the trigger for each round to be fired which is much different than having to cock the trigger each time before firing. It is a fact that even the bad guys in street gangs have trouble getting fully automatic weapons.
The “Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 (FOPA) makes it illegal make a new fully automatic firearm unless it is for U.S. Government (USG) use or use by a law enforcement agency, or to a Federal firearms licensee for use as a USG or law enforcement sales sample.” (27 CFR 479.105(d)) (See: Legal Full Auto; thearmsguide.com; 6/14/2016)
Because of the FOPA there is a fixed number of fully automatics in the U.S. available to the collector and/or enthusiast. That number will logically decrease but it will never increase. The cost of legally owning one begins around $14,000 and runs upwards of $20,000 and much more for a used fully automatic in minimally fair condition. And the cost of the weapon is the least restrictive part. The tax, red tape, and the restrictions involved can easily run you cost of a new BMW.
The narrative that the anti-gun liars push is one that imagines any Joe Blow, can go out and buy assault weapons and automatic weapons, etc. Nothing could be further from the truth. Obama and all of his sycophants, including those championing the various versions of the Brady Bill, are liars. And what’s worse, they know it.
The first lie is that the “AR” in AR-15 stands for “Assault Rifle.” It does not. “AR” does not stand for “Automatic Rifle” either. It stands for “ArmaLite Rifle” named after the company responsible for developing it in the 1950s. But don’t expect Obama and his sycophants to let facts stand in the way of their narrative of lies.
The AR-15 is not an assault rifle; I argue it is unfair to call it the civilian equivalent to military’s “M” class of automatics (think M-16). Because that is like saying the Corvette is the equivalent to the Koenigsegg and Bugatti Veyron. Yes they are all sleek and fast and eye catching but any similarity ends there. And yes there are people who would question why anyone needs multi-million dollar automobiles that in some cases they never drive. The answer is because the can and because they want to – in that order.
An assault rifle is a weapon made for military purposes only. It is fully automatic. The AR-15 so many of us own and that the media loves to point to, is not an assault rifle.
I have friends who have collections of guns that are in perfect working condition but they will never be fired. They are collectors only. I have friends who have collections of guns that we shoot at every opportunity. Personally I enjoy shooting the AK-47 and the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun. But I also very much enjoy the Smith & Wesson 460 Magnum. But I am getting away from the point I wish to make.
Obama and Congress wasted no time pushing anti-gun legislation in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida nightclub mass murder by an Islamic terrorist. But following are hard facts that you will never hear coming from the mouth of Obama, the media, or Hillary Clinton. They were forwarded to me by my longtime friend, John Brinson, who is CoChair of the Eastern PA Firearms Coalition:
There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms. That is not disputed.
What is never shown though, is a breakdown of those deaths to put them in perspective; as compared to other causes of death.
• 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
• 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
• 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons
• 3% are accidental discharge deaths
So technically, “gun violence” is not 30,000 annually but drops to 5,100.
Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?
• 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago
• 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore
• 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit
• 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington DC (a 54% increase over prior years)
So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities. All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws so it is not the lack of law that is the root cause.
This basically leaves 3,825 for the entire rest of the nation or about 75 per state.
That is an average because some States have much higher rates than others.
For example, California had 1,169. Alabama had 1.
Considering the fact that Muslims are using guns and planes to murder innocent Americans; considering also the fact that street gangs are prolific perpetrators of gun crimes, juxtaposed to law-abiding gun collectors and enthusiasts – maybe it is time Obama and his minions go after Muslims and street gangs and leave law-abiding gun owners alone.
Because it wasn’t law-abiding gun owners who murdered 49 people at an Orlando, Florida nightclub, nor was it law-abiding gun owners who committed mass murder at Fort Hood, or San Bernardino. It isn’t law-abiding gun owners who are shooting up the streets and neighborhoods in Chicago, Miami, Compton, ad nauseum.
Obama’s lies and the media misinformation does nothing to keep us safe. They do however place our lives at risk by going after the law-abiding instead of those who boast threats pursuant to murdering more of us.
