Have you stopped to really question why we are being told that with a win in Florida today, Romney has the nomination all but wrapped up? Just how does that math work? At this moment, 1:21 pm eastern, the total delegate count is Santorum with 14, Gingrich with 25, and Romney with 33. Florida is the first winner take all contest, which means there are 50 delegates up for grabs.
Even though I graduated from public school, (sarcasm intended), I can tell that if as predicted Romney wins Florida, he will have a total of 83 delegates. That’s 83 delegates out of the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination. Granted, I’m not the sharpest pencil in the box, so if you can tell me how 83 is commensurate with 1,144, I’m all ears.
Why are we being told Romney is inevitable, that he has an air of invincibility, that he has the money and organization, and cannot be beat? Remember when Karl Rove was singing “the song of Romney,” pursuant to how he was the first candidate to sweep the first four primaries? We see how that worked out. Romney hasn’t been able to put Santorum out yet. For all of his money and organization, there’s still a lot of opponents standing.
Romney and the Super PACs supporting him have spent mightily in the first four primaries. He has received marquee endorsements from the inside the beltway crowd and the old guard establishment is singing his praises. The party apparatchiks are let slipped from their leashes to attack his opponents with cruel fierceness, the media has crowned him the inevitable winner since 2009, and yet with all of this support he has 33 delegates and when the dust settles after Florida is certified probably 83.
According to my limited math skills, even with a win in Florida, he would still need 1,061 delegates to secure the nomination. These are the numbers the party apparatchiks and hacks are using to tell the other candidates to drop out of the race. The other three candidates would be foolish to drop out now, just to appease party insiders who are intent upon more of the same, not true leadership.
We’ve heard all of the reasons why the other candidates should roll over and play dead for Romney, but let’s be honest – Romney is just another looser in the tradition of John McCain and Bob Dole. If he was flustered by Rock Perry and Gingrich, what will happen when he goes against the slickest elapid in the forest since the Garden of Eden? If it took him weeks to respond to the attacks from Gingrich what will he do against Obama?
We’re being set up for a blood bath that the Tea Party is going to be blamed for. Mark my words, you may not agree, but I am convinced of what I speak. The enlightened can cite any reason they want to bolster their argument for the belief that Romney will win, but they’ve got a better chance of winning back to back powerball jackpots than they do of Romney besting Obama – and that’s only if he gets the nomination and there’s no guarantee he will.
That’s why they are trying so hard to have us buy the argument of inevitability pursuant to Romney. Well, he’s not invincible nor is his nomination inevitable, and we shouldn’t be fooled/misled by the media and talking heads who pontificate with the statuesque air of knowing what you and I do not. They know talking points and they know that the money and power lined up behind Romney would make MacBeth look like a nursery rhyme, if at any time it appears things are slipping away from him – but that doesn’t negate my assessment.
To that point, witness the attacks on Herman Cain and now Newt Gingrich. Notice how the media simply ignores Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. And it’s going to get ugly the longer Santorum and Gingrich stay in the race.
The bottom line is that true conservatives don’t trust Romney and well they shouldn’t. He may smile nicely, he may have done missionary work, and he may not have been caught in a compromising situation with another woman, yet. But, that doesn’t make him a leader, and making money doesn’t make him one either. Massachusetts isn’t the United States of America and from what we know, his record as governor there is one we would be much better off if it were contained to that state alone.

hopefully the donalds endorsement will be the kiss of death for mitt.
kelso: you are spot on…
I heard Michael Reagan in a radio interview with Mark Levin say look at Romney’s campaign staff now. NO Tea Party conservative will ever be welcome in a Romney White House. Remember how Sarah Palin was stabbed in the back by McCain’s own staff? These were the Big Government Republicans running McCain’s campaign, the same that are now behind Romney. They will not stand for any Tea Party Conservative thoughts or ideas on their watch. Romney is just a more “hip” McCain.
bill sr: romney will do whatever it takes to get votes…he has no moral center…
branwen: because that’s exactly what he would do…
r.c.woods: agreed…
AMEN TO THAT!
roy: you make an excellent point…I made same in my rant for tomorrow…
bill sr: thks for sharing…I’ve already decided to support Rick…
gary thomsen: I agree w/ all you have said except the issue of color…republican hierarchy would kill their young to elect their good ol’ boys…look what they did to Sarah Palin…
marilyn: i am supporting Santorum…
rvd: I say repopulate the gop w/ solid tea party people…and hold them accountable…
It’s a sorry and sad state of affairs when “Money talks, and everyone/thing else, walks”! If that is the case then Obama will wipe Romney out of the box, should he be the nominee. I still do believe in Miracles though, and God Willing, one will happen! Your article is right on! I would like to see the GOP as it is today, completely reorganized or have the TEA PARTY AS THE NEW GOP! or maybe run as a 3rd party……..wonder what the result of that would be? Think it’s too far out?
Great Rant, Mychal
I cannot vote for Romney since George Soros and John McCain endorsed him. I have not heard yet that Romney has accepted Soros’s endorsement. That will come out later. That, among the MA health care, tells me that Romney is a bad choice. Of course, Soros and McCain are back-stabbers and have elected to endorse Romney for hidden reasons. I cannot believe either of those two misfits have any scruples because they work both sides of the fence – double agents; close relationship with Obama. There is something ‘dirty’ going on and we are supposed to believe that Soros and McCain are law abiding ‘people.’? Santorium has a lot to offer the American Citizens and the most important at this time is ‘optimisim.’ America needs a lot of that to climb out of the mess that Obama has made. As President, if Santorium could surround himself with highly intelligent people, I think he would make a good President. Reagan gave people hope and optimism in the darkest of hours. Americans rallied to the cause and helped bring some normalcy to the Federal Government.
By the way, Reagan was a divorced man and was elected President. Hmm. So, I ask myself should I consider the lesser of two evils; support a president who commits adulty in the White House (which there are many) or to support a divorced presidential candidate?
I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. Even if we can elect a moderate (Romney), what is the point? If McCain had won, sure we wouldn’t be so far down the socialist path, but we would still be farther down it than before 2008. The Republican party power brokers are obviously going to destroy any true conservative who tries to become President. And God help any black man who runs for President who has gotten ahead on his own volition (Cain). He would be destroyed by the racists in both parties, as it is essential they prolong the myth that a black man can not be successful without white help. That is why Obama is the “perfect” President for them. It is lesson which the blacks must learn: You can even be President, IF you fall in line and let the white socialist brains direct your path. Otherwise, Mr. Cain, forget it. He was just too much an uppity n-word for them, Dems and Reps alike.
Roy..
If you liked Santorium before….go here.

I don’t see how his winning by only 14% over Gingrich is a big win considering he was projected earlier to be up by +20%. That says that with his $17Million (unbelievable and not really fair) in negative ads, he actually lost ground by 6%. Florida is not the same state this time around and this party is not over. I personally prefer Santorum but I expect Newt will come back roaring once again in states that are truly more representative of America. And, can Romney continue to spend $17Million dollars in every state?
Enjoyed the rant mychal, last three words of the
fifth paragraph says it all “not true leadership”
the sick feeling in the stomach that branwen speaks
of is all to familure.
why do I always get that sick feeling that if Romney won and even became president he would stroll down the same left road as did Arnold in California? I cant seem to shake that feeling.
I have a question for you Mychal. Will Romney try to pick up some Catholic votes by siding with the Bishops who are outraged with Obama’s HHS and its unprecedented requirement that Catholic institutions must include in their employees healthcare plans provisions for contraception, sterilization, and abortion as part of what Obamacare considers “PREVENTIVE” health coverage forcing both the employer and their employees to violate their collective conscience?
We know Gingrich and Santorium surely will and possibly Ron Paul. This might be an opening for them if Romney goes moderate or rides the fence on the issue. It will be interesting to see how he handles this based on his own religious values and his previous political stand on it.
