Help me out here if you can. Shouldn’t a person running for office be a person in whom we can have confidence that his yes is yes and his no is no? Shouldn’t a person who is running for a political office, and asking us to trust them, be trustworthy? Shouldn’t they be willing to say what they believe and stand by it regardless of the consequences? In other words, shouldn’t a person running for office be veracious? Shouldn’t the voters have confidence that a politician says what he/she believes and that the politician will not succumb to saying anything just to get elected?
Recently, we witnessed leftist groups and homosexuals react with their typical knee-jerk apoplexy, when the owner of Chick-Fil-A spoke openly and honestly of his personal point of view. Now granted, this man is not a politician, but wouldn’t it be refreshing to see a politician stand by their convictions instead of making their convictions whatever will get them elected?
That is exactly what I would do if I were the Republican Senatorial candidate from Missouri Todd Akin. Akin has come under fire and pressure to abandon his race for the Senate because he gave an honest answer to a question about abortion. When asked if he opposed abortion even in the case of rape, he should have answered “yes” and moved on to the next question. Instead, he answered yes and then tried to legitimize his answer with medical evidence.
Truth be told, there is medical opinion that supports his answer: “From what I understand from doctors…if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut [the female reproduction ability down].” I recall reading the same thing going back to my early years of college. And more important, I can recall hearing adults saying the same thing when I was a child.
Democrat Elizabeth Warren can lie about her ethnicity in order to defraud and cheat the government to get student loans. Democrat Richard Blumenthal lied about his non-existent Vietnam War record all the way to reelection. Bill Clinton can lie about sexual relations. Obama can lie about his mother’s death; can lie about his father’s non-existent military record and can lie about his past (by keeping all documents pursuant to same sealed). Mitt Romney has flipped, flopped, and flipped again to the point that who knows what he really believes. But Akin speaks his mind and position truthfully and Karl Rove and Republican leadership throw him under the bus faster than they threw Trent Lott under the bus for making a jocund comment at the late Strom Thurmond’s birthday party.
Republicans need to figure out that standing up for what a person believes in shouldn’t disqualify a person from office. I would double down on Akin and tell the media we’ll stop supporting Akin when Obama stops supporting Eric Holder and Joe Biden. Go Akin.

Updating your blog with more information anytime soon? It is extremely helpful for me http://www.inpolitics.ro/fhjhkjal-wegnegs_b3511/24-inch-malaysian-hair_144299.aspx
that is great, you guys should add me too
Nope. No way. You lost me with this one. Your defense of Akin is as “knee-jerk” as the apoplexy you accuse libs of with regard to Chick-Fil-A.
Akin’s comments were simply indefensible. He has no business on the Republican ticket for any national office. He is nothing more nor less than a total embarrassment to the party.
What on earth were you thinking?
Thank you for your explanation. Thank you for supporting Akin.
I don’t have a clue how Mr. Akins wanted to answer the charges, but he has the right to speak his mind, uninterupted because I put my life on the line for two decades precisely to ensure what we inherited from those before us, would continue beyond my own life.
I fully understand how a woman can choose abortion over carrying a “rape child to term”, and I put it up to God to deal with, as that is definitely “above my paygrade”, I only made it to Gunnery Sergeant, and that paygrade is about dealing in death and destruction, under The Laws of War.
Our Nation is in the quandry we are in because unlike the rest of the world, we don’t have thousands of years of history of slavery, but established a new concept, “A Nation founded on the principle The People are the source of social and legal authority”, relying on the principle We are Endowed By our Creator, all of us, with unalienable rights.
This idea did not come before we had slavery, but long after it was conveyed from the old world to the new.
Every other Nation can deal with slavery without the specter of racism, because none needed to find moral support for the institution, it was always there, and anyone was subject to it, by any accident, even kings were enslaved, when they happened to fall captive.
When we established this new paradigm, we compromised on God’s Principles to keep 13 states in union. We sought ways to consider with reason, Blacks as less than “Man”. It should be ironic the People who established the new order which broke the back of the old order, would be left with this compelling violation of our own words and deeds.
Such is always the most difficult issues, because the easy ones are eliminated by mere time, if they don’t easily fall to logic and reason. The same people who have always relied on greed and gluttony to gain their followers, have carefully controlled the debate over the issue of slavery, its effect on our society, and its impact on today’s society.
No one is pushing for recognition of the truth of slavery, the relationship of men vis a vis slavery, and how it became connected with racist ideal, for the purpose of ending this force which can separate us, and make us into factions, and lead to our destruction, they are entirely consumed with seeing our destruction, so the return of power can be again, the primary factor deciding who will control everything.
For all of history, some measure of “the law of the jungle” has been in every government institution, from the most benign “benevolent tyranies” to the most approbrious and immoral tyranical rules, and our own ideas, assembled from so many different directions established morally, there is no room for force, as a means of moral authority.
In five years, we have regressed fifteen or twenty years in race relations, entirely because it is imperative we be shoved in our own “proper corner” if the communists are to have the chance to kill the form of government which doesn’t so much destroy their ideals, as make them ludicrous, a laughingstock for all with eyes to see, to turn to tears of laughter, if we are allowed to assert our first principles, and put our faith firmly in the Hands of God, our lives in the principles of His Law, and our Nation, as representing “A People capable of both the responsibility of duty, necessary to keep a Nation operating among its peers, and with the knowledge We, and We alone know what is best for each of us to pursue, for the continual improvement of our society and our Nation.
We should have no time to even listen to comment from those who have shown us they have no truth in them, and we would do well to restore the practice of “shunning those” who refuse to abide with our social principles, rather than sending them to Washington, as we have for the past century.
We have exactly the government we have chosen, much by deliberate but foolish choice, most by failing to choose, and allowing natural default to define who would comprise the government we are supposed to select with great care.
We might have one last chance to choose less than destruction, but that is at best, what we can do. If we do this, we still have the hardest work ahead of us, because our government is not in our hands, nor in our control, it is ruled from inside, and the fact no member of it has even considered challenging the lies which are clear, show even “winning the election” only means we have a bit more time to choose to halt government, and by the force of numbers, stand up as citizens, and force a reconstituting of a federal government, force the illegal central government be held by the Military, and establish the Constitution, again as the rule of law over all government, and the “rule of law” providing for the destruction of all the established parts of government which fall outside the limits of the precision of our Constitution.
This is our duty if we beat the communists who would have us take Zero for another term. If we don’t win this peaceful contest, or if those controlling him see his loss imminent, we will be confronted with war, as fomented causes will be used to declare a state of emergency, and groups of citizens will be attacked with the intent of making a show of a crime which will never have happened.
We can’t win if we don’t even try, that is a certainty.

I notice that Mike Huckabee also came out with a rational and supportive statement relating to this brouhaha over Akin’s misspeak. My respect for Mike has increased.
Mr. Massie, I thoroughly enjoy your site. Honest, hard hitting articles that are enjoyable to read!
I have shared your article here:

I just love how Democrats so willingly overlooked Biden’s recent Amos & Andy routine (which follows a long pattern of other instances of advanced stage foot in mouth disease) yet are so quick to pounce if a Republican chooses his words in haste.
avery: and the repubs are right there to throw their own under the bus…
Yeah well, Repubs keep feeding into the distractive devices of Dems while bending over backwards to show impartiality. If they couldn’t support him (read: the cause) then they should have kept their mouths shut. imo
Agree with your take on this Mychal. I also had learned it the way you did, that a pregnancy would most likely not occur. I was saddened by Sarah Palin’s and others instant throwing of Akin under the bus. But admit I knew nothing about him prior to this dust up. Let the voters decide in Missouri. If he loses in a fair election so be it. If not then he is the legitimate choice. I would support him if it was my state.
This is called “courage of one’s convictions”. Unfortunately, Conservatives or Republicans aren’t allowed that right! The left will try to hang their hats on anything they can to bury us! The sad part of all this is that even some “good ole boys” are joining them. In reality, this is very, very sad!
rvd: it is sad…repubs are quicker to throw their own under teh bus than dems are to do it for us…
If one stupid comment relegated all politicians to be deleted from tickets, we wouldn’t have much time at the polls. I don’t know of ANY sitting politicians who haven’t made gaffs or even said great big whoppers. The problem is, for the most part no one calls them on them. I do believe that Mr. Akins’ statement showed a lack of biological knowledge and he should definately aplogize (which he has) but let’s move on people! One area of ignorance is not indicative of a person’s overall abilities.
deb: he should have simply said he is anti abortion under any circumstances and left it at that…
It never ceases to amaze me at just how low our society has sunk within a span of 50 years, that we as a once Christian nation would allow a small minority of left-wing, antiChristian socialists to corrupt our entire society.
Ever since the Civil Rights Movement, the Democrat party has descended into an abyss of moral corruption toppled by routine dishonesty permeated all throughout the media as well as numerous industries. Obama, Biden, Ted Kennedy, The Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charlie Rangel, Chuck Schumer and many other loony liberals have continually wielded an onslaught of lies in order to discredit conservative politicians, Republicans and the entire Tea Party Movement.
No matter how much damage they and their left wing cronies have descended upon our society through their useless and debilitating policies, they have convinced a number of their misguided supporters into accepting the fallacy that nearly all of our societies ills can be contributed to the racist hostilities of the Republican party and conservatives.
Since the only offense in which the Republican establishment has in its arsenal to conmbat these demonic liberals is to avoid confrontation, the conservative movement loses! Fox News is equally as responsible for promoting liberal fallcies as the do-nothing RINO’s and “moderate” conservative talking heads.
Day after day, principled conservatives have to sit back and cringe in embarassment while watching a handful of left-wing mouthpieces like Bob Beckel, Jehmu Green, Pro-gay George Soros funded activist, Sally Kohn, Kirsten Powers and the geeky-looking Alan Colmes, parade upon the Fox News premises while disposing their venomous hatred for conservativism opposite moderate conservative Fox News analysts through an empty dialogue foremat, blazed upon a silly split screen!
Meanwhile, the mealy-mouth Fox News pseudo-Conservatives in their desperate attempt to win over the approval of their liberal cronies, will continue to accomodate liberal Democrat attacks such as the one presently being directed at Tod Akins, by publicly shunning and renouncing him. Anytime a strong minded conservative stands up for his/her pricipled thoughts, the liberal’s vehemently attack and insist that conservatives denounce them as well.
No matter how salacious a liberal behaves, conservatives are too darn fearful of publicly correcting their illicit behaviour for fear of course, of offending liberals! One thing I admire about those liberals is that they dutifully stand behind their own, no matter how much chaos they initiate! The present conservative movement has no such desire in publicly supporting one of its most dedicated and morally upstanding conservative followers, whatsoever. They’ll always allow them to hang out dry after the liberals publicly renounce them, in order to appear “fair & balanced”!
In the words of the late Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton; “The whole modern world has divided itself into conservatives and progressives. The business of progressives is go on making mistakes. The business of conservatives is to prevent those mistakes from being corrected”!
renee: excellent comment…
Thank heavens! I thought I was the only one who supported Akin. Thank you, Mychal, for standing with him too! I am puzzled by this whole flap, since he did no wrong except open his mouth. And that is not illegal or a felony, of which many, many Democrats, including this current administration are publicly guilty of doing! And with no recriminations of any kind. We have liars, tax cheats, felons, extortionists, murderers, rapists, and sexual harrassers (according to corporate policy, it IS sexual harrassment when a superior uses a subordinate; think Monica and Bubba here) who not only are not kicked out of office, they are revered by the left, and considered “statesmen”. I think I need to move away from my keyboard before I puke!
sunnyvee: they look for anything they can feign insult over…and the repubs are there to help them…
Simple: The day has again come, right is wrong, good is evil, truth is a lie, man is god and God is dead. Babylon has been reconstructed and the world is on its way to the Utopian dreams of those who have allowed their minds to be corrupted and following the lure of the Deceiver.
bill sr: well said my friend…
Whahoo. More kaka to wade through. That seems to be the norm for these days with the Obama guided press releases. It’s all right to be all over Akin for speaking truthfully. What amazes me is that Republicans are ready to hand Akin to the liberals and let them chew on him. Where was the media and Republicans when Biden talked about pigs and chains? Those remarks should have flushed Obama down the drain. Lest I forget that Biden speaks in Planet Uranus language. I agree with Mychal! Akin should run for office and let the people decide with votes.
I completely agree with Mr. Massie. It is refreshing to hear someone take Mr. Akin’s side, instead of jumping on the band wagon to criicize him. I deeply hope he stands his ground and tells the Republican “establishment” to stick it. I read posts from MO readers today saying they still plan to support him and vote for him, because he is a good man. I hope he wins by a landslide!!
Go Mr. Akin!!!
I agree Rebecca…very well said.
Mr Akin needs to go to biology class.
Biology is complicated. It is known that female hormones reacting to severe stress (physical, emotional) could disrupt a woman’s normal reproductive cycle resulting in delayed or missed ovulation/period to miscarriage of a pregnancy. Most women have experienced this at some time in their lives. Certainly the physical and emotional stress of a traumatic event such as rape could trigger such a response. It is not predictable or reliable, but it is possible.
Unfortunately Mr. Akin did not express himself well at all and it left a very sour taste to most of us, even those who understood the point he was so poorly attempting.
Mr Akin did not misspeak, what he was conveying, is exactly what he said.
His conservative nature was prevalent, and it came out. His understanding of violation, was presented. Why is this poor fellow getting lambasted, over comments that a democrat would never be called out about.
You are right. I am sure he’s a great conservative candidate and he needs to stick with what he knows. He also needs to learn how to deflect this sort of questioning with simple to the point answers. He’s no doctor and shouldn’t try to sound like one on tv. He’s being savaged by the press and he brought it on himself.
Oh I’m sure he’s already had a crash course in women’s reproductive issues since his comment. ;-)
I admire one who is honest. Unfortunately, conservatives aren’t allowed to be honest.
I hope and pray Mr. Akin is reelected, but he should go back to biology class.
I am really tired of politicians answering leading gotcha questions designed to have no satisfactory answer and then mucking it up further by not knowing how to move on in the interview. I do not support abortion and I am glad this guy isn’t my OB-GYN.
As has become customary, I agree with you 100% Mychal. It sickens me that a man stating his own personal beliefs openly and honestly – AND STICKING TO THEM despite the whining and handwringing from the “let’s not offend anybody ” crowd is to be admired, not castigated.
It matters to me more that I tell THE TRUTH rather than spend one second considering whether or not I am “offending” anyone. Quite frankly, I could give a rat’s behind if I offend anyone when I speak The Truth. To do otherwise is the very essence of the cancer called ‘Political Correctness’ that is destroying our culture and society. I applaud Mr. Akin for standing his ground. I’d vote for him in an eye blink over the spineless, groveling, panderers, who seek to curry favor with everyone. Abraham Lincold said it best.
I also agree with Mychal. This man is getting the shaft.
