Reality Distortion Field (RDF) is a phrase sometimes connected to Star Trek but more commonly attributed to Steve Jobs and the early days at Apple Computer wherein he was known for his endless optimism and charisma, and for motivating co-workers to think creatively to achieve that which was deemed impossible. The concept was likely a forerunner of the now-cliched thinking outside the box.
A more accurate and contemporary definition of Reality Distortion Field might better be applied to the cockamamie arena of financial reasoning in which Mr. Obama and his toadies play make-believe and toss pixie dust at one another. When Nancy Pelosi claimed another extension of unemployment benefits was good for the economy late last year it was not a stretch to think she’d fallen down and bumped her head again, yet just this week Valerie Jarrett came out and uttered the same drivel as if she had been hypnotized by Svengali, and predictably not a soul in the media pool had the courage to ask what was causing her to hallucinate.
Europe is in financial turmoil and still capable of imploding from decades of ill-conceived Keynesian socialist economic policies. Keynes wrongfully believed that government should regulate markets, the consummate example of emotion overriding pragmatism and reality. Markets themselves are self-regulating. The proponent of a centralized government believes, naively, in a governing body regulating commercial markets, which is the equivalent of allowing a government to manipulate markets, and one step away from a government owning and controlling a market and thereby destroying its natural function.
Unchecked power by a government to manipulate a market is a pre-paid ticket for subjective and random regulation, resulting in stifling productivity, lack of competition, and the creation of a vortex that sucks commerce into the netherworld. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? With proven failures of socialistic economies serving as modern day templates for that wrought by government interference, the neophytic in Washington not only insist upon more ways to emulate Europe but show troubling signs of doubling-down straight to a Marxist platform. Disparagement toward our democracy and the Constitution has never been more rampant, and it is clear the current paradigm is not to create an environment in which business might thrive, but rather to own it and control it as a fiefdom.
Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader is required by law to submit a budget every year, but to date is over 1000 days tardy, and counting, to bringing his FIRST budget to the floor and nobody seems disturbed or has sought to sanction him or to ask for his resignation under the grounds of gross dereliction of duty, nor has any political pressure been brought to bear on Rasputin in the Oval Office. Reid’s indifference and pomposity is flagrant, though he inadvertently might be doing the country a favor thanks to Congressional adherence to Base Line Budgeting, an unfathomably sophistic practice with roots that trace back to the Congressional Budget Act of 1974. In an overwhelmingly Democrat-controlled Congress, this sludge was signed into law with only 23 dissenting votes in the House, and passed unanimously by the Senate.
With baseline budgeting, budgets never fall; they are, instead, used as the basis to increase spending the following year. Try doing that in your personal life or with a business, then retain a bankruptcy lawyer.
Let’s say Mr. Obama increased food stamp availability by 100 Billion each of his first three years in office. If he only increases food stamp outlays by 75 Billion this year he and Congress will consider that a spending CUT of 25 Billion, an absurdity so profound you wouldn’t find it in a fairy tale or a piece of science fiction scribbled in crayon during a six month drug haze.
The tally sheet just past the three quarter-pole and going into the home stretch is unsavory and has a stench about it lye soap could not wash way. The artful dodger increasingly pounds the podium and scowls like an angry cur, boasting on one hand that the economy is improving and bragging on the other that extending the payroll tax was a necessary and vital, fully bringing a new definition to dissimulation and juggling facts faster than a hustler dealing a street corner game of Three-Card-Monty. Meanwhile, we have a Congress with what appears to be a terminal case of lockjaw.
Two arguments result: Mr. Obama is the president most bereft of common sense and detached from reality to have ever occupied the office. The upside to that discussion is it makes Jimmy Carter’s final years more pleasant; the downside is that once he loses the election we will be saddled with him and his snarling wife trying to rehabilitate a failed presidency 30 years after being routed out of office. Unlike Carter, I don’t see him with a hammer in his hand once his power cord is unplugged.
The other argument, of course, is that he brilliantly hoodwinked a nation into believing he represented change and was clever enough to have not disclosed his communist proclivities. Neither case inspires but is how the score card reads. The only remaining mystery is why one of the three branches of government remains asleep, fraught with either disinterest or outright fear of the Executive Office.
One can’t help but think back to the apt description of the Prussian Royal Court by Prince Klemens von Metternich: A conspiracy of mediocrities united by the common terror of any decisive action.

Big Jim says….Yes,the distortion field is like the State Fair of Texas…it gets bigger and better ever year !!! Never has any one ever distorted views and reality like this obama bunch.Hell, you had Gibbs as a front runner, that guy would rather climb a 100 ft. pole to tell a lie than to stand flat footed and tell the truth. His predicessor is a puppet.Look at where he gets his fodder—axelrod, geitner, polosi, reid, and the big impersonator obama. What a pack of hyena’s.Thanks for the truth and crisp views Mr. DAN
Thank you for the kind words.
I’d like to get you and sumitch together to talk. I’d do all the listening.
dan bubalo: when you have exhausted all that is possible the only thing left is the impossible…that would be that a craven narcissistic communist madman…who shrouds his craven self in mendacity and leninism…exccellent piece…
I just got lucky Dan. Even a blind sow will find an acorn once in a while.
It’s been whirling around in my mind lately that everything we were taught in history, economics, government and politics are and were just a pile of bull droppings. All our lives we have lived with tales of heroes of the United States. George Washington, Stonewall Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman; pick your favorite. But one thing they had in common was a love for this country and a willingness to fight to the death for it. I don’t see any of that today….anywhere.
What I see is the attempt to destroy all this country is, even with its warts with a complete disregard and distain for future generations and the future of this country. The thinking must be that they just don’t care about anything but themselves and their hunger for power and money. And nowhere do I see any heroes or patriots willing to do anything but grant themselves more power and money.
Where are the checks and balances that we were taught are the foundation of this nation? When did the constitution and bill of rights become just old pieces of paper? We have a congress filled with shysters and crooks. Today Judicial Watch released their list of the ten most corrupt in congress. Not just who is corrupt, but the ten most corrupt. I’ll bet all of you can pick at least five of them without any time to think. How did we wind up with a totally unqualified pair of liars sitting on the bench of the Supreme Court (you know, the wise Latina and the baseball player)? How did we wind up with a “leader” that is repeating the Pied Piper with us the lemmings?
I have my answers and I expect that many of you that have read my posts know what most of them are (and many of you suspect that I am as nutty as a fruitcake). I worry not only for my children that are grown adults, but my grandchildren. We are not (have not) spending them into bankruptcy, we are spending them into slavery. And when they are shackled, there will be no one to save our once proud flag. When I look in the mirror and see an old man staring back, I wonder “What the hell happened”? I look at our pledge and our history and wonder the same. Where are those that are going to pick up the standard and lead us out? I must be blind because I do not see them.
I couldn’t agree with you more about the allegiance to our country of previous presidents and national heroes. While I didn’t agree with the positions many presidents took, they were all experienced with the legislative process, which I’m using as a coded-phrase for honoring the Constitution and the will of the people.
Generals, senators, vice presidents, governors…….now THIS.
It’s not so much that I need agreement with my positions, it’s that I insist on loyalty to the country. I was skeptical of much that the Kennedy clan did, but I never doubted that they were working for what they saw as the good of the country.
There are reports that Obama’s political machine is hard at work to fix the 2012 elections with the help of the Justice Department and the resurected ACORN under a new name but with the same people.
And even though congress voted it illegal to fund them, nearly $1,000,000 has been routed to them through various departments and programs. Of the votes turned in by ACORN and Project Vote, fully a third of them were fraudulent.
Is Congress in agreement with him and the Justice Department as crooked as he is? Without their help and protection we have no defense. And I’m beginning to wonder.
Gret article, Dan! You “out-did” yourself on this one!! Barry Soetoro (if there ever was a Lulu) aka Barrrrack Hussein Obuma II, (if there ever was a Obuma Sr.), says one plus one equals five. I don’t think the school in Jakarta taught much math. As for H. Reid, he, and Pulosikita, think there is money to be jerked out of American Peoples’ hands and into their pockets. I read about their earmarks all in favor for their private property values. This in part is why Reid & his bunch of cronies cannot come up with a balanced budget. They spend money before they get it. I would say they all are living on borrowed time…and money. There isn’t any budget. Spend Spend Spend. Print Print Print. Want Want Want Take Take Take. This Big Government Administration is totally out of control.
Thank you, Marilyn.
History will judge them harshly, and that makes me want to stick around long enough to watch. Even revisionists won’t be able to resurrect this version of the Keystone Kops.
Dan;
Would be difficult to drive nails and read a tele-prompter at the same time! However I don’t see something as noble as habitat looming on BO’s horizon. He’s more into spreading the misery around, we’ll see more of him after the 2012 loss than we do now. Shoulda, woulda, coulda will be the new catch phrase! And all of that hinges on a loss, if your not 3/4 scared your not paying attention.
Thank you Dan & Mychal for your work.
Thank you for your feedback, Spark. I’m inclined to imagine he couldn’t pound a nail more than once unless the prompter told him to do so again, then again, then…………..
Rosalynn is still hostile about how the 1980 election turned out and “Jimma” is still advocating anti-American policies throughout the world without prompting. It’s not fun to contemplate, but I’d rather see the obama’s huffing and puffing 30 years later with no rank than to have to try to suffer through another four years of “them” in power.
In bringing up the specter of Rasputin, and his seemingly magical control over the Czar and all who encountered him, I find the first real parallel to this barry sotero, which is fully accurate in both defining him, and describing his personal amibitions.
While it is possible sotero/obama could be this disfunctional and this level of idiocy, given his known connections, and the fact he hides all others, we can’t help but think what he hides must be worse than what is open and exposed, which raises the question, what worse than true tried in court and jailed domestic terrorists who started his whole career in the most prescient state, “Chicago”, while a city in Illinois, with all the power and vices of an immoral and illegitimate “State”.
My mother would never have bought an iota of what has been put forth as true, yet even after his raising deliberate disasters to unprecedented heights, he still remains a strong contender for staying in office.
We, as a Whole Nation, truly have the president we deserve, because we have had the chance to be great, to be true to principle, and we discarded it out of hand because it would require work and school.
At least we can know we bought and paid for it in full.

Thank you, Gunnery Sergeant McClain.
Rasputin has been on my mind for years at this point, and once deciding to use that comparison it wasn’t much of a step to include Svengali, too.
Very well articulated and deadly true. He must be reigned in and defeated in November.
The libs R trying 2 create their own reality so they can make money on all of their Green Energy bonds & bonds 4 oil production in Brazil. These people R con artists plain & simple its on a grand scale! They R running a game on the American people. It must B stopped!
He needs a hammer to the head to knock some sense into him (and his wife needs a hammer to the mouth)!
“I don’t see him with a hammer in his hand once his power cord is unplugged”, T repeat above.
Maybe a hammer and sickle?
Good call on the hammer and sickle, Sumitch.
Can’t believe I missed it.
I’m duplicating this post, not because I’m so proud of it, but because I set it first in the wrong place.

Dear Sumitch I have looked around and what I see are you and I. Are we merely going to post on blogs we support, and castigate on blogs of idiocy and call it “duty done”? I won’t, I do now, with hope some will choose liberty over security, and not willing to start a war if we can raise a Nation.
It is good we remain one of the few Nations where we have kept our right to life secure. We will need this far more, shortly, than ever before since our last criminal government sent troops after its citizens complaining, just as this criminal government will soon send forces out to silence the complaints. Then it is up to us to play the hand we have, or fold our cards and watch our “ante” disappear in the pockets of those we are not willing to confront.
I have no choice, I have an oath I must meet the standards of.
Sincerely,
John McClain
