What Racist Double Standards Look Like (Repost)

Fox’s Megyn Kelly: Enabler Of Racism; Originally Written May 28, 2012:

If a white male Fox News Channel contributor, in the course of a rather animated debate with a Muslim, called the Muslim a “towel-headed camel jockey” how long do you think that Fox contributor would remain with Fox? How about if a white male were debating a Chinese woman on Fox News and in the heat of debate he called her “slanty-eyed” or called her a “rice-eating husband stealer.” How long do you think that white male Fox contributor would last? In either of the hypothetical situations, how long do you think it would take before the white male Fox News contributor was offering mea culpa and telling people he has Muslim friends and that he loves the Chinese culture?

Speaking for the great number of fair-minded persons in America and around the world, we demand to know what the acceptable levels of racism are. We demand to know why the black racist, socialist, negress Jehmu Greene is given carte blanche to insult viewers and other Fox News contributors with impunity.
Perhaps Megyn Kelly can tell us what is inappropriate behavior for her show. Just days after giving Greene a pass for calling a white male guest a racist epithet, Kelly harshly condemned a white male guest when during the interview he referenced Joe Biden as a buffoon.

If a Fox News contributor were debating an issue with Kelly about, oh, let’s say, Sharon Bialek, let’s say the Fox contributor became frustrated with Kelly because she refused to clearly explain her relationship with Bialek when they were both in Chicago. Let’s say the Fox contributor, in the heat of the moment, called Kelly a name or names that referenced the old rumors of her being less than the cherubic paragon-of-virtue program host she pretends to be. Let’s say the Fox contributor referenced in monosyllabic terms that her promo shots were more suitable for Playboy than they are for a professional journalist. And let’s allow that said Fox News contributor could be male, female, black, white, Asian, or whatever.

Would Fox News frown upon that? Would Kelly offer up a tepid apology for the person who dared use those points as part of the discourse? My point is, we demand to know where the line of unacceptable racism and/or insult is, because it is clearly viewed differently for black racists like Jehmu Greene than it is for white males.

Think back not that long ago. Trent Lott, in a moment of jocularity, made what was meant to be an endearing statement of collegial respect for Sen. Strom Thurmond, and he was promptly excoriated. Lott was assailed to the point that he was ultimately forced to resign from his political career. So I think it fair for us to know why Greene is permitted to make unambiguous racist epithets part of her on-air commentary with impunity.

In truth, I’ve never had cheering respect for Megyn Kelly, not that it would bother her, but I’ve always viewed her as scarlet and disingenuous. And I have the deepest lack of respect for a professional woman who trades upon her T&A to further her popularity, as promotion shots of her indicate. But there is another factor I view as being only a half-step above apostasy and that is the act of not speaking out when a situation demands it.

I have said many times that I do not share the respect for Jack Nicklaus and Arnie Palmer that most golf fans do. And my reasons are simple. Nicklaus and Palmer were the giants, the titans of golf; they ruled the golf world like no others in the zenith of their time. Yet outside those carefully coifed and immaculately manicured greens and fairways there were golfers who may have been their equals, or – who’s to say? – perhaps even betters, that were denied entry into certain tournaments and who were confronted with racism and scorn by tournament organizers and other golfers.

Nothing persuades me that if Nicklaus and/or Palmer had shown respect for fellow professionals and/or displayed a moral concern for others, black golfers like Charlie Sifford, Lee Elder and Pete Brown would not have had to wait for Tiger Woods to become the nuclear explosion that rocked the golf world. From their lofty perches, if Nicklaus and/or Palmer had made it clear they would not play in any tournaments that had the Caucasian clause in effect, the media would have seized upon it and racism on golf courses of America would have been on its way to an ignominious death.

My point should be obvious: Megyn Kelly had an obligation to make it clear that she would, under no circumstances, permit the behavior Greene exhibited on her show. She had an obligation to call Greene’s name-calling what it clearly was and is, i.e., racist and insulting. She should have made it clear that she would not permit racist double standards on her show. But she did not, and for that she deserves the harshest rebuke because we know if any of the comments I referenced elsewhere in this commentary were directed at her, or made by white males, there would be hell to pay.

So until Kelly and Fox News hold Jehmu Greene accountable to the same level Don Imus, Trent Lott and other white males are held, we can assume that Kelly and Fox News believe racism can only come from white males.

Obama, you simply can’t just give a speech at the number two party school on a Friday and not insist on putting all drinks

Regarding: “So until Kelly and Fox News hold Jehmu Greene accountable to the same level Don Imus, Trent Lott and other white males are held, we can assume that Kelly and Fox News believe racism can only come from white males.”

I missed “that” Megyn Kelly/Jehmu Greene segment. Am going to try and find it on the web and watch it. Until then, I invite you to watch Megyn Kelly interview Malik Shabazz: “Malik Shabazz with Megyn Kelly”, Part2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYbp0leEiv4 I believe you will be very pleased with Megyn in this interview. She doesn’t let this racist/bigot off-the-hook AT ALL.

Also: I like you, Mychal. Thus, please don’t ask me to take down my 1976 Farah Fawcett swimsuit poster. That is, please don’t go after Megyn because of her (alleged) provocative promo shots (of which I can’t find). You see, I’m a 49 year old man with an innocent “school boy” crush on Megyn. She’s smart, sassy and hot! That’s a winning trifecta that’s very difficult to come by. Unless Megyn shows up, on air, in “hoochie mama” wear, I don’t want anyone to rock my (school boy crush) boat. If you’re smiling now, well, that’s what I was hoping for.

    Take care.

Would it be sexist to call both greene and kelly skanks? Would I get thrown of her show?

    • Mychal July 23, 2012 at 3:35 pm #

carpenter: they’re lower than that to me…what kind of credible news professional poses for T&A shots…and jehmu greene is a bigot committed to turning this nation into a socialist state…

I’m with DLB. I want a straight, factual new program & none exists. I’ve said for years that the advent of 24/7 news networks has done more harm than good in our country. None of them can report any news without pulling people off the street to “analyze” the situation 15 mins after story breaks. The “newscaster” can’t even report just the facts without trying to influence public opinion, if not outright, by inuendo/semantics/etc. Oh, & don’t get me started on M. Kelly. When I first saw her yrs ago, I decided she’s “too cute & smart by half!”

    • Mychal July 23, 2012 at 4:36 pm #

kacee: I agree that 24/7 news “programming” juxtaposed to “news reporting” has removed all pretense of objective reporting…and is just to full of herself…a fat paycheck and blond hair doesn’t make her worthy…she take a few less T&A pics and work more at reporting…

What’s the old saying about a small mind trying to express itself? And so goes the person who imagines that slurs and racist epithets can pass for intelligent commentary.

    • Barbara July 20, 2012 at 3:33 pm #

Thank you… I have a black friend (sort of) who is constantly doing that very thing…. Think I’ll copy and paste your response…..lol

barbara: it’s always those least informed and devoid of arguments who believe themselves to be most capable…you cannot debate someone who hasn’t a grasp of the issue being debated…

It’s very frustrating Mychal; and this has been the case for years. I did email, but of course I did not get a response. I turn her off now when she comes on the TV. But even Bill and Sean get me a little crazy some times with their wishy-washy ways around certain folks. I wish there was a news channel out there worth watching. I signed up for Glenn Beck’s program and find it very informative. Thank you for speaking out about this!

There is no such thing as ‘reverse racism’…there’s only racism…regardless of the color of the person the remark or bahavior is directed toward. If a negative remark has to do with race, it’s racism.

    Another excellent column Mychal. Thanks.

      t. snyder: right you are…a nd I add that all racism is wrong…no matter the color of the racist…

The whole bloody thing makes me angry…..

soooo sick and tired of the racism bull crap…..

Please excuse me today. I’m fed up to the gills today with our administration. Just read the piece about Michele Bauchmann’s inquiry regarding Hillary Clinton’s muslim aide….oops, did that come off my keyboard??? I’m sorry, but why is it the people (Michele B.) who are asking the RIGHT questions and is getting dogged about??? Does Hillary’s aide have something to hid??? Well, DUHHHHH….of course she does….freakin muslims….I’m sorry again…haven’t slept in awhile and I’m angry about all of this garbage. John McCain and John Bonehead both put in their pathetic comments against Michele Bauchmann…Why are the Muslims, IN ALL LEVELS OF OUR GOVERNMENT getting a free security pass????

    Dear God help us, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    • Bill Sr. July 20, 2012 at 3:02 pm #

      Betrayed,
I and surely many others feel your pain. And I’m with you on the McCain, Boehner thing. We have come to believe political correctness is actually political corruption and the republicans are getting better at it by the day.
As for the racial thing I thank God we have Mychal for this issue because as a Caucasian most of us feel our opinions on the subject are negated before we even start talking. That is no excuse I know but it is true that in practical terms once we are mature individuals we can only imagine the effects our culture has been in the lives of most Black Americans from their birth. I feel there is no way I can fully appreciate the experience of their childhood just as I can not begin to understand the bigotry I was exposed to when my family moved south during WWII and first saw separate drinking fountains. I had grown up in Ohio happily sharing neighborhoods, playgrounds and classrooms with a host of ethnic groups Polish, Hungarians, Lithuanians and Black Americans. There in Tennessee I felt really strange when my school bus drove bye schools for blacks only. Thank God that has all changed but just as I have not forgotten those sights and feelings I am sure many of those black children also remember the same things today. If together today we can put all of that behind us in the healing process it is only because we have relied on our faith as Christians and our trust in the saving graces of our Lord. Peace to You.

      • Mychal July 23, 2012 at 4:51 pm #

bill sr: we must work to remove race based assignations…the only purpose skin color assignations serves is to divide us as a people and keep us suspicious of one another…

    • PWest July 20, 2012 at 3:34 pm #

Now Napolitano also has an aide that is Muslim. She’s in charge of Homeland Security for God’s sake. Obamac with his admin is quickly taking us to the United States of Islam.

      • Mychal July 23, 2012 at 4:45 pm #

pwest: you cannot make it up…their koran sanctions deceit and dictates they must take sides against anyone who isn’t a muslim…one would think we’d be watching them closer than the rosenbergs were watched before they were arrested…

    • Mychal July 23, 2012 at 5:11 pm #

betrayed: bachmann and company should be applauded for taking their jobs seriously…mccain and boehner should be taken out of town on a pole…
