Time For A Trip To The Woodshed

Time For A Trip To The Woodshed

It is high time for people to take umbrage at the likes of uneducated celebrities given the forum to speak about political and economic policy much less be taken seriously, and I don’t mean to get mad at the celebs.  I am, instead, suggesting the producers who decide to air those hare-brained opinions, and the networks and media outlets are the ones that should be shunned.  We could start with the Dixie Chicks, whose careers have plummeted since spouting off, move on to Linda Ronstadt, discuss Bruce Springsteen who shames the state for whom he claims to represent, wonder at Ed Asner’s popularity in general much less his Communistic-rant-voice-over work for the California State Teacher’s Union, or consider any other number of high school drop outs from Hollywood who enjoy unwarranted attention and credibility when, in fact, they cannot count to ten.

We’re talking about the President of the United States who is mindful of the character played by Chris Farley in the movie “Tommy Boy” and refers to John Hancock as Herbie Hancock and thinks he’s got it right.

What gives?  I mean, one of the Kardashian girls is intent upon going to the Middle East in the middle of ridiculous mayhem to learn more about that never-ending problem.   Does that mean Sean Penn is unavailable?

Perhaps I was too harsh, because they really aren’t the problem because we have John Boehner, a man so ill-equipped to serve and defend that the only characters that come to mind are Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and I very well might be denigrating cartoons unfairly by using their names and his in the same sentence.   And we have a bigger issue than President Obama’s personal caddy and that is the president himself, who recently pronounced his deplorable ignorance by misspeaking about PE ratios.

Not to be crass, but that is a mistake only an idiot makes.  It’s time to serious-up people.  We’re talking about the President of the United States who is mindful of the character played by Chris Farley in the movie “Tommy Boy” and refers to John Hancock as Herbie Hancock and thinks he’s got it right.

Just how low has the collective IQ fallen if such a dunce is allowed to lecture us, knit his eyebrows, point his finger and talk about a solution when he cannot even identify the problem?  And though I am reluctant to bring up President Bush because Obama and staff still haven’t quit bashing him, the following question is fair and due to be asked:  what would the media be doing right now if George Bush had referred to our country having 57 states or could not speak correctly about a PE ratio when he’s trying to tell the country how to improve its finances?

Well, the answer is pretty clear, but the motivation is not, at least in regard to respectability for a profession.  It truly stretches the mind as to how this imbecile goes unscathed because none of the highly paid journalists has the nerve or interest to ask a tough question.

If you can’t spell USSR perhaps you can spell Cuba, because it is called FEAR, and the journalists cling to it every day in order to keep their paychecks coming to appease their bosses and pretend their profession still retains some integrity.  I mean, free speech cuts two ways; the ability to speak as well as the ability to question.

There is a reasonable approach regarding the debt, deficit, and budget but it’s too simple to be accepted because those in the power seats in Washington want us all to believe they can think.  Who cares?  Here’s the first toss:  cut everything but military and Medicare by 10%, then ship all illegal aliens drinking the Medicaid well bone-dry back to from wherever they entered illegally.  There would, then, be no reason to raise taxes, there would be no reason to continue to expand entitlements, there would be no reason to continue the Jimmy Carter lunacy of 35 years ago wherein he granted lifetime payments to foreigners, but we would have money left over to take care of the people who legally EARNED the privilege to be here and paid in their entire lives.  In fact, it might simplify the business side of Washington and allow Congress to start contemplating and reviewing acts of treason.  I cannot possibly be the only one who sees it, so why not Begin the Beguine?

Oh, that’s right.  John Boehner is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, WHO HAS A MAJORITY THOUGH ACTS LIKE HE’S MINORITY WHIP and seems happy to carry Barry’s golf bag.  What remains baffling is that when both gentlemen possess the opportunity to become famous for their wisdom and establish themselves in the annals of history as brilliant, they instead are acting like bantam roosters jockeying around a courtroom as if they just passed the law board. The worst thing anyone can do in a management situation is to believe they are the smartest person in the room, and that mistake is merely compounded by not surrounding oneself with bright people and instead hiring and intimidating the proverbial Yes-Man, like Tim Geithner or the eternally morally bankrupt Jay Carney.

Aside from Obama and Boehner having egos the thickness of onion skin, they are not well-informed and are the last people we need in leadership, though they are currently intent upon doing their best Casey Jones impressions while careening out of control because brinkmanship has given way to common sense.  At the point of being redundant:  a government cannot be run successfully by ignoring the same bottom-line numbers companies observe, nor by the same tenets we follow to keep the lights on in our homes, so it’s time to administer the castor oil, which if that dates me I don’t care.

It’s time for the bad cough syrup that hurt to swallow but made us all better.  It’s time to bring out the paddle and it’s time for a trip to the wood shed, and how bad would that be, because the goose is done laying golden eggs and is suffering from malnourishment, and once it dies the game is over.  It’s difficult to contemplate a new currency, but that could be forthcoming.  It’s unconscionable to consider our country defaulting on its debt and begging China for forgiveness, but it is right around the corner, and while the solutions sit right in front of our leaders they refuse to read the most elementary configuration of tea leaves, or quite possibly they cannot read at all.

Selling divisiveness is not a form of leadership.  Selling hatred is not in any way distinctive.  Advocating failed economic models that have been proven as useless is predicated on an ideology designed to harm a country as opposed to helping it, and endorsement of such irresponsibility is the very definition of insanity.

But then again, what do I know?

Whining, begging, pandering, and denying. Why not? No one there to question any of it.

Thw wood shed difinetly needs to be used here with these thugs…a big ‘ol razor strap applied–1 lash for every lie. Poor hussein would look like a striped ass ape with his hundreds of lashes. Sounds fair to me. Good article…Thanks for insight……

Some day I want you to come out and tell us what really think of our president.( had to say that)
In the meantime I think it is asinine for us to have to watch our representative in congress running around having short interviews with the press talking about serious issues facing our nation and acting like the solution is a mystery which will require lots of meetings and hearings to obtain a consensus of both parties on how to proceed toward an amicable process that may or may not resolve problems they themselves have created.

Example: What happened at Benghazi? Do we have to have hearings and investigations to find the answer? Hell no! Barrack Hussein Obama, the Commander in Chief¸ who not only witnessed the raid and watched the massacre in real time and had the last say as to how we handled the situation based on the intelligence streaming into the White House before and during the obviously well planned terrorist attack is the ONE person who knows EXACTLY what happened. All we needed was for him to get in front of the mike and cameras he so loves and tell us.
That should have happened within 48 hours of the disaster. Did the people need to know? Yes. What did we get? Instead of the facts and truth from an eye witness Commander in Chief we got a dazed sleepy eyed presidential campaigners opinion that a few demonstrators were protesting an obscure anti-Muslim video and it got out of hand and four Americans were killed in the process. It seemed no big deal to him and the Obama Pravda media and press supported his evaluation.
How did we ever let him get away from a full explanation with all the details and simply throw the matter into the hands of a congressional investigation to try to discover what he ALREADY KNOWS?? This is insane.

Thanks for the contribution as always, Bill Sr.

I guess the reason it all comes out of me is I meet a Friday deadline for Monday’s column, which means I have all the way to the following Thursday night to assess the lunacy. By that time the ire has built to such a point that various ideas and observations come out like a champagne cork and the work is done in less than half an hour.

Brilliant article as usual, Dan. I certainly remember castor oil and I also remember a slimy pink liquid named Pepto Bismol and the plop, plop, fizz, fizz of Alka-Seltzer. They need the former, we need the latter. Problem is I found out that Alka-Seltzer will also clean your commode. I cannot look at a picture of either Obama or Boehner without feeling a little nauseous and I would gladly swallow either the pink slimy stuff or the stuff that fizzes. Reading your articles helps settle my stomach because I know there’s hope as long as people like you are out there keeping an eye on things. Thank you.

I don’t know if I could do the Pepto, doublesmith, but can assure you my wine consumption has risen.

when you have the media on your side promoting anything and everything you say….true or not….keep saying the same thing and the dumb uninformed folks on the street, on twitter, or Facebook etc believe it…..I am still stunned the uninformed think the top rich who they want to tax are white males…..truly amazes me how stupidity works….but hey, say it enough and anything is believable….goes to prove, sound bites work……doesn't make me happy tho…..sad for us, our beautiful country, our military, our lives…..I keep telling myself that God has a plan….and hey, stick around, if you love Obama for sure you will just love Hillary! more of the same…or worse….she hasn't answered for Benghazi……

    • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 9:16 pm #

Ethically and morally bankrupt people in the voting booths, Barbara, voting for ethically and morally bankrupt people in Washington, and not an ounce of sense among them.

  6. Marilyn December 10, 2012 at 5:24 pm #

If it makes you feel any better, Dan, I recall castor oil. Also, my grandmother used ‘slippery elm.’ Your rant is very true and sad. If Obama would simply Stop Spending, that would hurt but cure a lot of our problems. But, we know that is not Obama’s intent. He now is asking “Congress” for sixty billion to help Eastern Shore folks to rebuild after “Sandy. Well, he just spent that sixty billion – gave it to Egypt’s Morsi. Obama also sent weapons to the Mid East, gave amnesty to thousands of illegals, ran guns to the Mexican Cartels and, very U.S. un-presidential, allowed four Americans to be murdered in Benghazi! I can think of a number of people who need a good dose of castor oil; maybe grandma’s slippery elm!

    • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 5:36 pm #

I remember both as well, Marilyn but I was too fast and squirmy to get nailed more than a couple times.

With 1/3 working and many retiring due to Obamacare and Massive Layoffs and 2/3 Parsites how can the US not take a huge DIVE.

Chapter 2 of Mark David Ledbetter’s volume 1 on America’s Forgotten History. It as well as the rest of the book, will tell us where we need to go to restore our nation.

    Thank you, Deb.

We have watched the gravitational pull of the vortex accelerate like no other time, and I fear it’s going to do it’s thing so fast people won’t know what hit them.

Whence cometh the Barbarians? The Roman Empire deteriorated to sustaining it’s existence by providing bread and circuses for the people, and we all know how that turned out. What good will food stamps do when the grocery shelves are empty? How much entertainment will the 60″TV provide when the power is cut off? Welfare checks won’t help much when there is nothing that can be purchased. If our culture ends up with the economy based on the barter system , how will those who have nothing to offer (no skills, no experience, no ambition) survive? Better buy guns, folks and prepare to defend your home and loved ones. I am sick and tired of hearing how this recession compares to the great depression. Talk to the few survivors of that time and you will discover; we ain’t seen nothing yet.

You are not far off, Gary.

They’ll probably have to change the name of WalMart to Trade Mart———it will be the place to where people have to walk to swap what they have left.

  11. pblee December 10, 2012 at 11:53 am #

    Well Dan,
Castor oil would be the just the beginning as far as I’m concerned. It has always been my opinion that 100 middle income housewives in the Senate (instead of the usual suspects) could turn this train around in short order. People with common sense who routinely run their own careers, run their own businesses and run their own households (also a business) by keeping an eye on the bottom line while rocking the cradle of the next generation clearly GET IT. They’ve got skin in the game in a way that few people do. I don’t see anybody fitting that description on Capital Hill.

Woodshed??? America abolished the woodshed this past Novemebr 6. It’s been replaced by Santa’s workshop with free gifts for all, naughty or nice.

Gotta run- I am a self employed business owner/mom with a potential client to meet. Sombody has to pay Santa’s bill. God Bless America.

    • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 12:31 pm #

There most certainly is no woodshed, and I don’t even know if they make castor oil any longer, pblee………………….it’s merely something to dream about.

  12. Thom's Thumb December 10, 2012 at 11:53 am #

When Obama made the remark that he had not yet visited the (57) states he did not misspeak, He was refering the the tenants of Islam. That got lost on a just about everyone. Keep listening as he converts America to Muslim theology. Sleep well, all.

    • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 12:29 pm #

Of that I was aware, Thom’s Thumb, so he struck out on two fronts and was still not held accountable.

    • Barb December 10, 2012 at 7:43 pm #

I again am amazed how much of what he says fly over the heads of the average folk…they only hear what they want to……

Great blog Mychal. It’s hard to say anything to add to that. It almost seems like the entire Congress and the slime in the W/H are in cahoots with one another to bring this beautiful country to her knees. People make fun of Glen Beck but that man has been spot on with every one of his predictions over the last four years. Listen to what the man says. This disgusting thing denning in our White House and his equally bottom feeding low life mate are repulsive creatures that are an embarrassment to this country and to blacks in general. We need someone with Mitt Romney’s intellegence, character and experience along with Allen west’s fighting spirit to lead the conservatives and this nation out of the terrible mess we are in.

  14. Jana Lynn Shellman December 10, 2012 at 4:36 pm #

A Good Place to start is to ignore the ignorant & the stupid and attack the problem, which is misinformation to the children. We need to reach all of the pastors somehow, black & white, & ask them to teach more simply that God is the Source of our Supply, not food stamps, not the government, not Obama, and we need to rely upon ourselves & take personal responsibility for our actions. Sometimes I think the preachers talk over the heads of their parishioners with glorious talk of Heaven and Hell. They need to preach Ask & yes shall receive. They need to preach thanking God for answers to prayers rather than begging for answers to prayers. After we've taught the children (we can hope the adults absorb some of the childish teaching) we need to teach the adults. Adults Black White Red & Yellow and all mixtures thereof need to learn to take care of themselves. (see my book Winning at Wishing paperback or Kindle at Amazon.)

  15. Cheryl King Morris December 10, 2012 at 4:32 pm #

Much of this seems so obvious to many of us, but after the election beating we took this year, I think we all wonder the same.

    • Cirsten Wong December 10, 2012 at 5:06 pm #

The beating taken was not being prepared for the Rampant Cheating at the Polls and the blocking of over 1 million absentee votes that arrived 1 day late, what a coincedence!!! Unfortunately you are dealing with people that are criminals and they are playing by different Rules, you need younger more aggressive people to deal with a now 2nd term Bleed Out which the US will never recover, get out if you can.

      • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 12:24 pm #

Never thought it would come to this, Cirsten, but I don’t see another option for a responsible “earner” but to leave before we’re all living “communally and for the greater good” under the thumb of a tyrant.

    • dan bubalo December 10, 2012 at 12:26 pm #

A beating at the polls for sure, Cheryl King Morris, with more than a dash of monkey business tossed in for good measure.

    • Dick Yarnell January 3, 2013 at 2:00 am #

The million vote story is bogus.

  16. Cirsten Wong December 10, 2012 at 3:32 pm #
