It is high time for people to take umbrage at the likes of uneducated celebrities given the forum to speak about political and economic policy much less be taken seriously, and I don’t mean to get mad at the celebs. I am, instead, suggesting the producers who decide to air those hare-brained opinions, and the networks and media outlets are the ones that should be shunned. We could start with the Dixie Chicks, whose careers have plummeted since spouting off, move on to Linda Ronstadt, discuss Bruce Springsteen who shames the state for whom he claims to represent, wonder at Ed Asner’s popularity in general much less his Communistic-rant-voice-over work for the California State Teacher’s Union, or consider any other number of high school drop outs from Hollywood who enjoy unwarranted attention and credibility when, in fact, they cannot count to ten.
We’re talking about the President of the United States who is mindful of the character played by Chris Farley in the movie “Tommy Boy” and refers to John Hancock as Herbie Hancock and thinks he’s got it right.
What gives? I mean, one of the Kardashian girls is intent upon going to the Middle East in the middle of ridiculous mayhem to learn more about that never-ending problem. Does that mean Sean Penn is unavailable?
Perhaps I was too harsh, because they really aren’t the problem because we have John Boehner, a man so ill-equipped to serve and defend that the only characters that come to mind are Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and I very well might be denigrating cartoons unfairly by using their names and his in the same sentence. And we have a bigger issue than President Obama’s personal caddy and that is the president himself, who recently pronounced his deplorable ignorance by misspeaking about PE ratios.
Not to be crass, but that is a mistake only an idiot makes. It’s time to serious-up people. We’re talking about the President of the United States who is mindful of the character played by Chris Farley in the movie “Tommy Boy” and refers to John Hancock as Herbie Hancock and thinks he’s got it right.
Just how low has the collective IQ fallen if such a dunce is allowed to lecture us, knit his eyebrows, point his finger and talk about a solution when he cannot even identify the problem? And though I am reluctant to bring up President Bush because Obama and staff still haven’t quit bashing him, the following question is fair and due to be asked: what would the media be doing right now if George Bush had referred to our country having 57 states or could not speak correctly about a PE ratio when he’s trying to tell the country how to improve its finances?
Well, the answer is pretty clear, but the motivation is not, at least in regard to respectability for a profession. It truly stretches the mind as to how this imbecile goes unscathed because none of the highly paid journalists has the nerve or interest to ask a tough question.
If you can’t spell USSR perhaps you can spell Cuba, because it is called FEAR, and the journalists cling to it every day in order to keep their paychecks coming to appease their bosses and pretend their profession still retains some integrity. I mean, free speech cuts two ways; the ability to speak as well as the ability to question.
There is a reasonable approach regarding the debt, deficit, and budget but it’s too simple to be accepted because those in the power seats in Washington want us all to believe they can think. Who cares? Here’s the first toss: cut everything but military and Medicare by 10%, then ship all illegal aliens drinking the Medicaid well bone-dry back to from wherever they entered illegally. There would, then, be no reason to raise taxes, there would be no reason to continue to expand entitlements, there would be no reason to continue the Jimmy Carter lunacy of 35 years ago wherein he granted lifetime payments to foreigners, but we would have money left over to take care of the people who legally EARNED the privilege to be here and paid in their entire lives. In fact, it might simplify the business side of Washington and allow Congress to start contemplating and reviewing acts of treason. I cannot possibly be the only one who sees it, so why not Begin the Beguine?
Oh, that’s right. John Boehner is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, WHO HAS A MAJORITY THOUGH ACTS LIKE HE’S MINORITY WHIP and seems happy to carry Barry’s golf bag. What remains baffling is that when both gentlemen possess the opportunity to become famous for their wisdom and establish themselves in the annals of history as brilliant, they instead are acting like bantam roosters jockeying around a courtroom as if they just passed the law board. The worst thing anyone can do in a management situation is to believe they are the smartest person in the room, and that mistake is merely compounded by not surrounding oneself with bright people and instead hiring and intimidating the proverbial Yes-Man, like Tim Geithner or the eternally morally bankrupt Jay Carney.
Aside from Obama and Boehner having egos the thickness of onion skin, they are not well-informed and are the last people we need in leadership, though they are currently intent upon doing their best Casey Jones impressions while careening out of control because brinkmanship has given way to common sense. At the point of being redundant: a government cannot be run successfully by ignoring the same bottom-line numbers companies observe, nor by the same tenets we follow to keep the lights on in our homes, so it’s time to administer the castor oil, which if that dates me I don’t care.
It’s time for the bad cough syrup that hurt to swallow but made us all better. It’s time to bring out the paddle and it’s time for a trip to the wood shed, and how bad would that be, because the goose is done laying golden eggs and is suffering from malnourishment, and once it dies the game is over. It’s difficult to contemplate a new currency, but that could be forthcoming. It’s unconscionable to consider our country defaulting on its debt and begging China for forgiveness, but it is right around the corner, and while the solutions sit right in front of our leaders they refuse to read the most elementary configuration of tea leaves, or quite possibly they cannot read at all.
Selling divisiveness is not a form of leadership. Selling hatred is not in any way distinctive. Advocating failed economic models that have been proven as useless is predicated on an ideology designed to harm a country as opposed to helping it, and endorsement of such irresponsibility is the very definition of insanity.
But then again, what do I know?
