This is the first time I’ve ever posted another person’s work for my Daily Rant, but with the general election just around the corner in November this essayist’s article is a must reminder of the danger Obama presents.
This article is from June 11, 2010. The author goes by the nom de plume Robin of Berkeley. She is a psychotherapist and a self-described recovering liberal. I am posting in part because she raises certain issues that I have raised since early 2004, but she does it from a professional opinion based on her field of endeavor.
If after reading this you still believe Obama does not present a very real threat to America there is little left for me to say.
A Shrink Asks: What’s Wrong with Obama?

So what is the matter with Obama? Conservatives have been asking this question for some time. I’ve written a number of articles trying to solve the mystery.
Even some liberals are starting to wonder. James Carville railed about Obama’s blasé attitude after the catastrophic oil spill. The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd revamped Obama’s “Yes We Can” motto into “Will We Ever?”
The liberal women of the TV show “The View” have expressed sympathy for Michelle Obama’s living with a man so out of touch. Peggy Noonan, hardly a vehement Obama foe, recently pronounced him disconnected.
Obama’s odd mannerisms intrigue a psychotherapist like me. He also presents a serious diagnostic challenge.
For one, Obama’s teleprompter and the men behind the Blackberry keep him well-scripted. We know so little about the facts of his life.
But it’s more than just a lack of information. Obama himself is a strange bird. He doesn’t fit easily into any diagnostic category.
Many people attribute Obama’s oddness to his narcissism. True, Obama has a gargantuan ego, and he is notoriously thin-skinned.
Yet a personality disorder like narcissism does not explain Obama’s strangeness: his giggling while being asked about the economy; his continuing a shout-out rather than announcing the Ft. Hood shootings; or his vacations, golfing, partying and fundraising during the calamitous oil spill.
Take also Obama’s declaring on the “Today Show” that he wants to know whose ass to kick. Consummate narcissists would never stoop to this vulgar display of adolescent machismo.
Obama is flat when passion is needed; he’s aggressive when savvy is required. What’s most worrisome is that Obama doesn’t even realize that his behavior is inappropriate.
So if it’s not just simple narcissism, what is wrong with Obama? Since I’ve never evaluated him, I can’t say for sure. But I can hazard some educated guesses.
If I saw a client as disconnected as him, the first thing I would wonder: Is something wrong with his brain? And I’d consider the following theoretical diagnostic possibilities.
–Physical problems: There are a multitude of physiological conditions that can cause people to act strangely. For instance: head injuries, endocrine disturbances, epilepsy, and toxic chemical exposure.
It makes me wonder: Did Obama ever have a head injury? His stepfather in Indonesia was purportedly an alcoholic abuser. Was Obama subject to any physical abuse?
– Drugs and alcohol: Damage to the brain from drugs and alcohol can also cause significant cognitive impairments. Obama once said that there were 57 states — and didn’t correct himself. Memory problems can be caused by both illicit and prescription drug use.
Obama admits to a history of drug use in his youth. Did his usage cause some damage? Does Obama still use?
–Asperger’s Syndrome: Also known as high-functioning autism, Asperger’s causes deficits in social skills. A person with Asperger’s can’t read social cues. Consequently, he can be insensitive and hurtful without even knowing it.
Could Obama have Asperger’s? He might have some mild traits, but certainly not the full-blown disorder. In contrast to Obama, those with Asperger’s get fixated on some behavior, like programming computers. Obama lacks this kind of passion and zeal.
–Mental Illness: Obama’s family tree is replete with the unbalanced. His maternal great-grandmother committed suicide. His grandfather, Stanley Dunham, was particularly unhinged: He was expelled from high school for punching his principal; named his daughter Stanley because he wanted a boy; and exposed young Barry to not just drunken trash talk, but unrestricted visits with alleged pedophile Frank Marshall Davis (who might or might not be Obama’s biological father). Barack Sr. was an abusive, alcoholic bigamist.
Since mental illness runs in the family, does Obama have any signs? Yes and no. No, he is not a schizophrenic babbling about Martians. But there are red flags for some other conditions.
While Obama doesn’t appear to hallucinate, he seems to have delusions. His believing he has a Messiah-like special gift smacks of grandiose delusions. His externalizing all blame to conservatives, George W. Bush, or the “racist” bogeyman hints at persecutory delusions.
Along with a delusional disorder, Obama may fit for a mild psychotic disorder called schizotypal disorder. It may explain some of Obama’s oddness.
People with schizotypal disorder hold bizarre beliefs, are suspicious and paranoid, and have inappropriate and constricted affect. They have few close friends and are socially awkward. A schizotypal is someone like your strange cousin Becky who is addicted to astrology, believes she is psychic, and is the oddball at social gatherings.
Schizotypal Disorder does ring some bells vis-à-vis Obama. One way the diagnosis doesn’t fit, however, is that schizotypals are generally harmless, odd ducks. Not so with Obama.
–Trauma: My gut tells me that Obama was seriously traumatized in childhood. His mother disregarded his basic needs, dragged him all over the place, and ultimately abandoned him.
But I think there may be something even more insidious in his family background. While I can’t prove it, the degree of Obama’s disconnect reminds me of my sexually abused clients.
With serious sexual abuse, the brain chemistry may change. The child dissociates — that is, disconnects from his being — in order to cope. Many adult survivors still dissociate, from occasional trances to the most extreme cases of multiple personality disorder.
Apparently, young Barry was left in the care of Communist Frank Marshall Davis, who admitted to molesting a 13-year-old girl. As a teenager, Obama wrote a disturbing poem, “Pop,” that evoked images of sexual abuse — for instance, describing dual amber stains on both his and “Pop’s” shorts.
Would trauma explain Obama’s disconnect? In many ways, yes. A damaged and unattached child may develop a “false self.” To compensate for the enormous deficits in identity and attachment, the child invents his own personality. For Obama, it may have been as a special, gifted person.
Let’s return now to my original question: What is wrong with Obama? My guess is a great deal. The answer is complex and likely includes some combination of the above.
Along with the brain issues are personality disorders: narcissism, paranoia, passive-aggressiveness. There’s even the possibility of the most destructive character defect of all, an antisocial personality. Untreated abuse can foster antisocial traits, especially among boys.
If my assessment is accurate, what does this mean?
It means that liberals need to wake up and spit out the Kool-Aid…and that conservatives should put aside differences, band together, and elect as many Republicans as possible.
Because Obama will not change. He will not learn from his mistakes. He will not grow and mature from on-the-job experience. In fact, over time, Obama will likely become a more ferocious version of who he is today.
Why? Because this is a damaged person. Obama’s fate was sealed years ago growing up in his strange and poisonous family. Later on, his empty vessel was filled with the hateful bile of men like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers.
Obama will not evolve; he will not rise to the occasion; he will not become the man he was meant to be. This is for one reason and one reason alone:
He is not capable of it.

To this day he will bring up the subject of abuse he experienced from his alcoholic father. Many times his rages(my dad) threatened my life. Obama has the most advanced technology at his disposal. R. Woods, I’d like your permission to reprint your coomments, have them translated into Spanish, and hand them out to my neighbors (and others in the community).
There are a few other comments, such as his stance on social issues, that most Hispanics disagree with (because most are Catholic, if nothing else), but don’t realize to what extent Obama supports them, i.e., abortion.
My point being, not with-standing my own opinions, the Hispanic community needs to know what ‘their’ predident REALLY favors instead of what the media feeds them. Given a true choice between their religious beliefs and a vote for someone with whom they believe relates to them on some level, they will choose their religious beliefs. But if they aren’t made aware of these differences, almost all in my neighborhood support democrats because they have been told democrats are on ‘their side’.
So, I’d also like to add a few of the social issues to your list, with your permission, of course, to help them understand what this man really represents.

Quit trashing President Obama’s accomplishments. He has done more than any other President before him. He has an impressive list of accomplishments:
First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.

Please, no need to apologize; by our nature most conservatives tend to be more humble, get on with our lives type people – but we need to speak up and speak these truths because they are not self-evident to soooo many others. My husband and I saw Obama’s America 2016 yesterday, and I heard little “wow” and other small noises of discovery during it from those around me. How can so many people not be paying attention to what is screamingly obvious to some of us? Read his own words, look at his associations, his timeline – what would be obvious to most were it for example someone their son or daughter wanted to hang around with, seems to be invisible in this guy. On the bright side, his election to the presidency is proof positive of how post-racial this country is overall: not only did “we” elect a “black” man, “we” elected a completely unqualified, unbalanced, disrespectful, condescending, smug “black” man (also proof of the success of the dumbing down of America). Or perhaps post-racial isn’t the correct phrase since the only reason he was elected is his pigmentation; no white guy with his record, traits, behaviors would have even been nominated.
The difference between Hitler and Obama however is that Hitler rose to power by cultivating National Pride and Obama is tearing the United States down by destroying National Pride. He has not shown any patriotism whatsoever at any point and he never will. He hates Americans and I can promise you we are in for real trouble whether he wins or loses in the upcoming election. If I were Romney, I would be very careful, especially if it starts looking like he may when the election.

FANTASTIC! Thank you reminding me, with your concise list, of why – now, for the first time in my history on Earth, it’s CRITICAL that I don’t forget who and what has taken hold of my country. While many of these items have been so widely accepted as “okay” – it breathes new life into the horror to see them all lined up as neatly as pickets on a fence. I didn’t even know some of these disgusting items, but I am inclined to believe them without even fact-checking. Why would I ever do such a thing? Robin’s analysis is very insightful. I have thought the man was bi-polar, thinking he was “Jesus.” Then, reading about sycophants, that matched his personality. But, the main thing is that the sitting president does have some peculiarities. The destruction path that Obama is on lends to Marxist Muslim idiocy and it appears that he has been well schooled/brainwashed in such. When or if the ‘sponges’ wake up to how they have been brainwashed, they too will discover that they are actually worthy and willing to contribute something worthwhile to the common good of man. It’s so difficult to assess what is wrong with someone when you have no idea who they are and what they are. It still amazes me that this man somehow escaped the vetting process entirely – until it was too late. How on Earth did the greatest nation on Earth let this evil impostor slip through such tight cracks? How did the brilliant souls on this Earth, regardless of political affiliations, pin their hopes and dreams on, and fall for such blatant lies from, a virtually unknown individual? Even those of us who didn’t vote for him still had HOPE when he was elected. Sleepy voters, from both sides of the aisles, are opening their eyes and seeing their hopes for the change we once prayed for, have been dashed. Our hope for financial growth and racial harmony – that this ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL held in his hands – were, indeed, “changed” during his four year reign of terror. We can only “hope” to “change” him right out of office in November, lesson learned, and begin to mend the damage done! I’ve missed your rants, Mychal – my mom had open heart surgery and I’ve been out of the loop for a couple of months – I’m glad to be back!

i’ve read robin’s analysis of obama before and find it credible. what worries me is that obama has not, before suffered a real defeat, a thwarting of his wishes. if, (as i sincerely hope) he is defeated in november, and denied re-election what will his reaction be? he has attained every sociopath’s dream, achieving the very pinnacle of power in the world, surrounded by willing minions, his every wish is their command. will he willingly give this power up without a fight? if he presumes to nullify the election as others in some benighted lands have done, and proclaim himsef “president for life” who will remember their oaths of office to “protect and defend the constitution” and stand against him? the congress, the supreme court, the military? i certainly hope so, because for the first time in my adult life i truly fear for my country’s future.

I am reminded of a very insightful and telling comment made by Mr. Massie’s son a few weeks ago, that Obama wants people to think he’s cool and be surrounded by those who do. Imagine how Obama will be remembered as the guy who brought down the greatest nation on Earth and did it with their consent… that is almost too cool to imagine.

One thought, the sight of Obama deteriorating on a stage somewhere cannot be explained away by the media, especially with so many witnessing the event.

Three things:
1) Who will take this further and convince someone in authority to get Obama to a treatment center for evaluation.
2) This diagnosis could be used as a defense for all of Obama’s illegal, criminal actions, including hiding all his personal information, using a stolen social security number, etc. If so, he may be held to be innocent by reason of insanity. Then he and Pelosi and the rest of the insane Democrats can party together in a government-run mental hospital.
3) It has been said that, “The first time a Democrat thinks is the last time he is a Democrat.” Glad you are now thinking as a recovering liberal, Robin.

I think R. Wood’s post covers at least some of how many of us feel about this President and his ‘accomplishments.’ I’m a mom, gram, and great-gram, who has been around the block many times, with many campaigns, and Presidential elections. I have never seen a larger wedge between parties, between races, and sadly, even dividing many families down the middle, than this 2012 election. People are so adamant in their political beliefs, this campaign is more like a win-at-all-cost-football game between rival teams, than an election. My husband and I are very informed, and we are planting our feet very firmly against Obamanuts and what we feel is, at best, their lack of common sense — at worst, a manipulative, destructive path they are hell-bent on taking our country. Tired of the Blah blah blah lies, deceit, corruption and nonsense, and wanting to see real change this election! And Mr. Massie, thank you for your views and articles. They are very informative, and spot-on!
I always believed he was a “sociopath”. Seems I wasn’t off base! But the thing is, sociopaths aren’t as thin skinned as he “pretends” to be. I, for one, don’t believe he really is thin skinned. I think it’s all an act, for lack of having any reaction at all to things most people would normally react to! The author of this article brings out so many things, that lots of us already know about him. But I don’t think liberals do. Or, if they do, they choose to ignore them. They do so at the greatest peril to this country!

Could you post a set of very basic questions and answers, that we conservatives could ask our very liberal friends about Obama that would really make them THINK about the man the so LOVE as president? While I read your posts and agree with 99.9% of what you say and believe, it’s sometimes overwhelming to try to defend my position as a conservative versus Obama fans. I know it shouldn’t be, but a basic guidline would help. If you’d be so kind as to post on your site it would be great.

As a lay person I found this information/diagnosis amazingly simple to grasp and identify with when put in these terms. The part about Obama becoming more ferocious if given a second term is partiularly troubling considering the immense damage he has inflicted to this country both here and abroad in just the short amount of time he has been in office. Obama MUST be defeated in November.

This analysis is objective in tone, so adds weight to the argument, as opposed to many similar statements made with a lot of emotional tags associated with them.
The description here does not invoke assurance and certainly is not the type of person to be running one of the three highest branches of the United States’ gov’t.
This of course presumes that the federal and state gov’ts intend to abide by the original structure of the US Constitution. If however the fed gov’t has an aim to fundamentally change the structure of our gov’t system, then this is the perfect type of person for the role of President.
This would require someone who doesn’t mind not *really* being in charge of the Admin branch, but who would be eager to assist in shifting power away from States and the other two branches of gov’t., and – most importantly – concede his(or her) power to executive, appointed committees. At the same time, this person would provide a ‘face of the gov’t’ who is seen as omniscient and all-caring with regards to the common man’s plight.
Someone like that described above, perhaps.

Obviously we DO, we MUST, make careful JUDGEMENTS about people everyday so that we CAN become wiser. Great Article, Mychal-thanks for sharing. I was reading an article yesterday on WND about the ‘silent’ genocide against the Boer farmers in South Africa by the communist-backed ANC and was struck by the similarities to what could happen here in the US if Obama stays in office. The first thing was disarming the citizens-the rest of the torture was horrifying. When he was elected & declared the winner, I remarked to my sister that now the Demo(n)crats will do whatever it takes to stay in power. Liberalism really is a mental disorder! We must unite in our efforts to make sure there is no 2nd term for Barack Hussein Obama (and it would be a good idea to scrub his name from the history books as an aberration in the Presidential line-up).

I’m not a psychotherapist, but I’ve always felt that Obama is aloof, cold, and utterly lacking empathy and humor. Yet, there are people who believe he really cares about them, while thinking that Romney lacks empathy! People believe what they want to believe, don’t they?

Robin, I appreciate your thoughts; but this is not news. I am not a psychotherapist but this was obvious stuff before the last election. His true self is a sociopath. He has shows no remorse for anything that he has done that is wrong. He doesn’t know right from wrong; he only knows Obama. Whether you agree with the principle of good and evil I don’t know; but to put Obama in simple terms; Obama is evil.
I have to totally agree with you Cuddy! This man is a Narcissistic/Sociopath- clearly has the sky is blue! He Clearly displays every characteristic – there is No emotion, No remorse, No consciene for anything he’s done – Blames everything on anyone or anything – The god complex – he is a taker, he’s jealous and full of envy and is on a mission to destroy this country, just as some are on missions to destroy families and everyone around them. Robin of Berkeley put a lot of flesh around the vague “dysfunctional background” of our Liar in Chief. While the details are very sobering, they certainly fit. And her suggestion to elect as many Republicans we can is spot on. While not perfect, they, for the most part, are not progressive Marxists who value money and power above all. Now, if only we can figure out how to ignite the complicit press that carries Obama’s water for him.

I think it is quite simple. He is not very smart, he is an ideological communist, he is a narcissist due to his selection, from childhood, as the communist messiah, he is an empty suite who believes the accolades of a sycophantic press who keep propping him up. He thinks he has the wealth of the citizenry at his disposal to use for a lavish life style which we owe him. He never worked a day in his life and honed his skills as a community agitator.
He never earned a thing in his life and wants desperately to hold on to the public wallet. A truly despicable human being. If re-elected it says something very dark about where this country has descended to.
Ben, as a “Navy brat” myself, which carries many of the aspects which can be an affliction, but generally work out for the betterment of the military child, I think you are on target as to why he is such the person described by Robin.
I have an early life which corresponds only with other “military brats” for the most part, and we tend to be aware of the outside world early because we live in fast change at the most impressionable time of our lives. Doing so among people who have put honor foremost, dedication to duty, and principles, means we have these imbued in us usually, and to a strong degree.
I posit obama’s experience of being handed around from birth to his early years did the same thing, but put him in the hands of communist grandparents, a communist writer who is obviously very influencial to him, and if he did not absorb this thoroughly and strongly as a child, I would be shocked.
As to your last comment, we have sunk that low even if we are willing to vote him out, there is no way we live under the principles of a Godly Nation, and we have no honor for truth, principle, and we have no respect for “the doing of right”.
If we don’t undertake to turn our Nation around, completely, to its original foundation, we shall fall no matter what. We truly are at a tipping point, and we will choose to change, or we will fall.

It took courage for her to print her thoughts about President Obama.
Her conclusion that he needs to be out of office because he isn’t going to learn and change is very accurate.
Her comments prompts me to ask this question, “Is there any behavior that President Obama can engage in that would cause the Democrats and others not to vote for him ? “

Excellent post! Clearly and unequivocally an honest analysis of the imposter-in-chief! As I’ve mentioned before in an earlier post had Obama been a white man with so little political accomplishments leading towards his so-called “historical” 2008 presidential election, neither the liberal media nor the general public would have have been so sympathetic in avoiding his numerous flaws!
There is this underlying notion (arrogantly promoted by guilt-ridden white liberals) to treat blacks as though they were children. To avoid confrontations as much as possible so as not to disrupt their sensitivities! What rubbish! This is why Obama was able to get away with publicly admitting that he wanted to fundementally transform America while getting away with ushering multiple, useless executive orders centered on his bruised ego!
The man has no visible redeemable qualities whatsoever despite what the liberal press wants the entire gullible public to believe. This is why when he is not relying on the pre-scripted ledger posted on his teleprompter he often has difficulty expressing himself smoothly and is incapable of engaging in a hard hitting interview where he is being scrutinized for his politically juvenile record!
Obama’s legacy unfortunately will be heralded for decades to come, thanks in part to the arrogent voters, both on the right and left who foolishly voted for him as well as the untiring efforts of the loony left wing media establishment!
