Evil Exists And Evil People Do Evil Things

Evil Exists And Evil People Do Evil Things

It is a well, worn bromide, but the undeniable truth is, “If/when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”

In the wake of the recent murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, I know many of my readers have been waiting for my thoughts pursuant to same. So here they are.

The reality is that evil exists, evil people exist, and evil people do evil things. We punish the evil people who commit evil deeds. Inanimate objects are, by their very essence, incapable of committing any act by themselves.

The amount of pain those affected by the evil acts of evil people suffered is unimaginable. The pain is at times inconsolable. We don’t understand what motivates evil people to commit the evil acts they do. In the final analysis it sounds trite, but the simple explanation is there is no explanation that makes those injured by the evil acts of evil people, feel better.

I don’t know how I would feel if someone close to me were the victim of an evil act such as the evil person committed this past week. I pray that I am never put in the position of finding out.

That’s not to say I haven’t experienced evil acts committed by evil people against people I know because I have. And without going into detail, suffice it to say one involved the murder of a young lady I dated shortly after I graduated from high school.

But, and this is a big but, that is hard for some to grasp — you cannot stop or prevent evil by punishing those who abide by the law. Evil people are criminals, and criminals break the law and commit evil acts in the process.

It is a truism that a gun didn’t murder the children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. An evil person did. A gun, i.e., an inanimate object, cannot be punished, and punishing law abiding citizens by depriving them of their Constitutional rights does not address the core problem nor prevent another criminal from committing an evil act.

It is a well, worn bromide, but the undeniable truth is, “If/when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”

This past summer the police chief and the mayor of Allentown, PA boasted of the success of their daylong gun buy-back program. Persons bringing their guns to be destroyed were given cash for each gun. In order to receive the cash, they needed to present (I believe it was) two forms of ID, at least one of which had to be photo ID, and other personal information. Just how many criminals do you think were standing in line to get a few dollars cash for their guns? The sure answer is: not a one. The other laughable point is that many of the people who were interviewed after turning in their guns told the local reporters that the guns they turned in didn’t work. It was simply an opportunity for them to get a few dollars for something that was broken.

Less than a week after the boasting and chest thumping of the police chief and the mayor, gang-bangers and other independent criminals were busy shooting one another and pulling armed robberies. Who was put at risk by the gun buy-back initiative — the law-abiding citizens or the criminals?

There is barely a week that goes by that someone hasn’t been shot in Allentown, PA since the so-called successful gun buy-back day. My point should be obvious.

What should be addressed is the fact that, despite varied intentions of groups and politicians, evil acts by evil criminals cannot be stopped by punishing the law-abiding.

There are over 22,000 gun laws on the books. Which of them stopped this crime? The plaintive cry to strip us of our Constitutional right to own and bear arms isn’t going to prevent what happened. It will, however, make the law-abiding vulnerable to the evil persons with criminal intentions when they decide to perform their evil acts.

Drunk-driving laws haven’t stopped people from driving drunk; police checkpoints on highways work to a small extent, but they cannot be set up on high speed highways. So they are limited in their ability to prevent same. Protracted prison sentences and “three strikes and you’re out laws” for dealing drugs hasn’t stopped people from dealing illegal drugs. Knowing that law enforcement is continuously running online stings to catch those engaging in child pornography hasn’t stopped the evil pedophiles from trolling the internet for their evil purposes. Did Prohibition end the sale of alcohol or were there unintended consequences such as more alcohol consumption and unparalleled violence as a result?

I think it no less an act of evil for anti-gun groups and Obama to use the pain and suffering of others to further their evil anti-Constitutional agendas. And I think it is shortsighted on the part of those who accept the silly calls for magazine/clip restrictions and the outlawing of certain guns.

I think those in the media would be laughable if not so maniacal pursuant to their ignorant overstating of what various firearms are. I’ve shot the most powerful handguns in the world and enjoyed every round fired. I’ve fired a Thompson Sub-Machine gun, and loved every single round fired. I shot the AR-15 countless times, and I enjoy it every time. And my personal favorite to shoot is the AK47. Shooting that is as good as it gets. Slapping a 15-shot clip into a Glock 21 and doing double-taps is a great day at the range. I enjoy shooting sporting clays, as well. To my friends and me, a day on the range is as good as it gets. And we are not alone in enjoying the pursuits I’ve referenced above.

I should here add as a point of clarification for those unfamiliar, none of the above firearms I reference above are fully automatic. That’s because it is all but impossible for anyone to purchase fully automatic weapons.

It is not my intention to, in any way, minimize the tragedy of last Friday. What happened was horrific, but it could have been avoided or prevented before it reached the point it did if teachers and office staff would have had the option of being armed. Because, as we know, the evil person who killed innocent people wasn’t deterred by the signs proclaiming the school a gun-free zone.

The bottom line is that evil exists, and evil people do evil things. And punishing the law-abiding will in no way prevent evil people from committing evil acts.

I have been telling people this for years… I would make it public and painful… I want all to see what is coming their way if they want to screw with "We the People"… We need to change our government first, by convicting them for curruption and treason for selling us out to China and every country that takes our jobs along with letting the 1% get away with anything they please….

the loony liberals from Hollywood are crying for GUN CONTROL, but there whole entire industry glorifies guns and violence. is being a crack head a membership requirement for belonging to code pink? just wondering.

Mr. Massie: on target. Is it not an example of insanity when a society removes the guns from law-abiding citizens when a criminal abuses a gun?

More to the point: is not dis-arming the Jews and Russians one of the first thing Hitler and Stalin did before exterminating 20 million and 100 million, respectively, of their "own people"?

I am not a gun owner and never have been. However, I am astounded that any American would want to deny his fellow citizens the right to own one of his choice.
It is banded about that we have a gun culture. That is true and it should be obvious to anyone who has a good handle on our history as to why. It is the same rationale mankind used when we discovered the wheel; it works best for the purpose intended. And the intention for ninety-nine percent of gun purchases is either for hunting or protection.
Protection means defending yourself and family from the wild and that includes the animal or human elements and we must add either the common criminal or a well armed government trooper on orders to round up dissenters.
If this does not make sense to you, you have not been paying attention or too young to know how America became the greatest nation and force for peace in history.

I suppose we ought to really go all out and ban vehicles that kill or mame people while driving. Lets close the highways and roads also.
Maybe the root of the problem needs to be addressed. Are all the vaccinations that our soldiers and children get necessary? Seems that the more vaccinations that children get, the sicker they become with colds and flu. I personally witnessed a personality change with my neighbors son after he was required to get numerous required shots to get in school. He has now become a danger to them. They refused to get their next younger son the same shots and he is normal and healthy. After the children get all the side effects of these vaccinations, then they are put on various drugs. This right here I believe is some of the problems. Another problem is rewarding girls who get pregnant with all sorts of government monies paid for by tax payers. If she were married she would not be as eligible. Rewards are given to not be married. The things taught in schools ought to be addressed as well.

Personally I would never surrender mine and most definitely would not bother to register a shotgun, pistol or rifle I own if our Messiah/Obama issued an order to that effect. This man will use anything he can to weaken the citizens of this country much as Hitler weakened his country. Jews are taught that the government is to be honored and obeyed. It is ingrained
just our moral leanings are to obey reasonable government rules. After all most of us file our taxes every year, we pay for our auto tags, we renew our drivers license, we have our children vaccinated against contagious illness and as much as morally possible a reasonable person obeys the law.
Banning weapons and bullets and shells plus clips will not in any way stop what happened to that school. After all if you look at the history of our nation it was the Minuteman and his being armed that helped defeat England, weapons helped defeat Hitler, and if we had a government willing to defeat the evils of radical peoples we would have defeated the enemy in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. You can not legislate evil intent away.

Reading the last sentence of Jean Holly’s remark made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. She is soooo close to the truth and I would NOT put it past them to try something like this. The old adage “guns don;t kill people, people kill people” is so true. Someone has to stand up and point out the prescribed drugs the kids are on is mostly to blame. What we need is a war on the pharmaceutical companies who are making Billons pushing these drugs with their side effects..

Fantastic rant, Mychal! Only another armed citizen will stop a criminal ‘dead’ in his tracks! Who’s to say that a simple fork or knife, axe or whatever isn’t an assault weapon? What’s this rogue govt going to do-outlaw them? I spent my Oct vacation taking concealed carry weapon training. Even tho’ my father was WWI & was a sportsman hunter, this class was the most eye-opening experience!! I got to shoot a .22 caliber, .9 mm & got to fire 1 round of my instructor’s Magnum .44, which he keeps on his person @ all times, even in church!

As usual an excellent rant thank you. Mychal we don’t have a gun problem, we have a morals problem.

  11. Alessandre December 20, 2012 at 5:32 pm #

If BHO wants to take swift & strict action, he might try outlawing sin – in general. Without sin, there would be no murders. He wouldn’t have his job & his cohort would be elsewhere also, but those are other concerns. Banning sin is the only way to go & will be as effective as trying to ban guns.

  14. Bill Sr. December 20, 2012 at 2:15 pm #

Mychal,to your point, I had this to say to my Catholic brethern recently.

We need to ask ourselves “What do you Catholics believe when you proclaim, I believe in one God the Father almighty…….and in all that is seen and unseen (or visible and invisible as it is now)? These are not and must not be just words to a devout and conscientious follower of Christ and faithful Catholic. Hopefully you are saying we are aware of the forces of Evil constantly surrounding us trying in any way to tug, tease, or tempt us from accomplishing our mission to do God’s will among men. We realize we live in an imperfect world as the result of sin which lives in those Evil forces attempting to steal as much of mankind as possible from the shelter of Christ’s sacrifice of Love within the Fathers house. Understanding this allows us to look beyond what is obvious for the unseen within what men propose as solutions to our problems or methods to improve conditions or in the vain attempts to tamper with the very physical elements of life itself. These are the areas where the powerful forces of Evil can disguise themselves as benevolent benefits or evolving enlightenment for a society too eager to advance to an earthly man made Utopia without pain or consequence and privilege without price.
Our Lord came seen as a humble but faithful servant of our Father in heaven teaching the ways of the Father of Love but also clearly acknowledging the ever invisible presence of the devious deception of Evil opposed to His Will, promising us that whoever would believe in Him shall be worthy of the unseen Glory of God awaiting redeemed mankind.
We may consider marvelous what we have seen in recent years in our modern western society’s advancement of human achievement and be awed at our technological accomplishments but at the same time are we not also witnessing the unforeseen but now obvious collapsing of it both morally and economically?
Far too often in recent history we have witnessed how leaders have avoided the moral challenges in the light of truth and chosen do their work in the cool comfort of demagogic darkness where their deeds are less visible and the sleepy eyed gatekeepers have often been unwilling to sound the alarm for fear of disturbing the complacency. As a result decisions have been made, choices are in place, and worst of all we have changed our language and vocabulary to fit an agenda contrary to our conscience. An unborn child is no longer a human being. Killing it is not a crime it is a right. Pregnancy is a disease or at the very least, as our own president has declared, it is a punishment for poor hygiene practice. Preventing pregnancy is praised and to be rewarded by a benevolent Federal government with free contraception for women and young school aged girls. All the while the same government disallows any mention of God in all its public schools and buildings. Religious liberty is no longer constitutionally protected but subject to the interpretation of bureaucrats in Washington. Free speech is soon to be a thing of the past as power hungry elitists and legislators have assumed the role of judges of vocabulary allowed to determine what can be publicly permissible speech. Every Christian value which helped build the shinning city on the hill is being challenged or cast aside to establish the Utopia of fools and it is time for us to unmask and reveal the Evil presence in the public policies proposed by the blind or misguided individuals perpetuating the corruption of our culture.

The most potent weapon of Evil is our unwillingness to recognize its existence among us.

  15. Anthony S. Burkett December 20, 2012 at 2:06 pm #

Touché to you Sir! Words well spoken! And I might add the following statements to go along with yours.

The world’s history is replete with countless examples of governments and their abhorrently selfish and guile misuse of senseless tragedies such as that which has just occurred in Connecticut. The statistics of those attempts to manipulate the masses by convincing them to allow themselves to be disarmed for their own safety speak loudly for themselves.

The Soviet Union established gun control in 1929. From 1929 to 1953 a total of 20,000,000 dissidents who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Turkey established gun control in 1911. From 1915 to 1917 a total of 1,500,000 Armenians who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938. From 1939 to 1945 a total of 13,000,000 Jews and other so-called “undesirables” who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952 a total of 20,000,000 political dissidents who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981 a total of 100,000 Mayan Indians who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979 a total of 300,000 Christians who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977 a total of 1,000,000 of the educated people in that country who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

You may of course check the above statistics. I attempted to very them and I believe them to be correct.

To the point – Any government’s rallying call and supposed reasoning for gun legislation has always been a lie. One predicated on the government’s own self-interest and to help further their own secret agendas. And it has always ended badly for the ones whose protection was falsely advertised as the reasoning the so called “need” for increased legislation.

What our currently deranged society needs is a leadership that is not intent on propagating the divisiveness currently underway in our nation by those who would seek to manipulate us through our fears. More than anything our nation needs to return to the principles that it was founded upon and best summed up by the following statement…

One Nation under God, with Liberty and Justice for All…

And I might add… we need a few more mental programs!

With all of Obama's spending why doesn't he simply start with the most logical first step. Spend money and fund one simple step. Put a uniformed police officer in each of the school houses, and have this officer teach a basic class in a 'tactically' located classroom, this accomplishes two things. 1). Armed police security that is 'known by all' in and outside the school to be present. 2). It also permits students at all ages/ grades K-12 to interact with a police officer from their community. I think this is a reasonable approach.

Another great ‘Rant’ Mr Massy! On the people who posted here, Annie Hamer, pointed out the Elephant in the room. I have researched the role of ‘Legal Drugs’ also & found that in every single one of the mass murders from Columbine to Newtown Ct the person pulling the trigger had been on drugs that induce the very traits they are supposed to control. Not just “some” of them but ALL of them were taking the Drugs proscribed by their Doctors! Research it yourself.

I hope all will read Annie Hamers post.

100% spot on Mychal. Here’s where I have a problem. The lame stream media plays this stuff over and over and over. When the media does this they actually end up glorifying it. So when someone feels depressed and that want to end their lifes they can have their 15 minutes of fame. But how much did anyone hear about the guy that stopped a shooter at the mall the week before? There are more incidents where people have defended thenselves and others with guns then there are shootings. THAT’S what should be showing on TV. Let these people see how bad their bad decision can end.

    • sam c December 20, 2012 at 3:27 pm #

Ray E., you are 100% correct about the media and their playing the same snippits over and over. Skip it unless you have some new updates. My heart goes out to the families. Guns do not kill; the idiots using them to commit crimes are the culprits. But in my area crime is down. (HAH HAH). Every day the news is about drive by shootings, police officers being shot or run down by nuts in cars. Convenience store robbers, bank robbers. Just this week an abandoned car on a major road had a murdered man sitting behind the steering wheel. No gun in sight. Guess his car killed him. Another was found just of a walking trail. A major walking trail in Atlanta; just opened has had several attacks. ( could have seen that coming when it was first built.)

  20. Annie Hamer December 20, 2012 at 11:38 am #

Obama wants to bring swift action to prevent such
hideous evil. That means, an opportunity to take
more steps to ban and remove guns from the hands of
citizens. I find it shameful that he would use our deep,
national grief to further his agenda. His television
tears didn’t convince me of his sincerity: a sad
commentary on his life that I do not find him trust-
    worthy, even in this.

If he wants to take action, strong and true, then his
step needs to be toward revealing the facts about
psychiatric medications that so frequently these
murderers are on or have been. Either on or
withdrawn, a few of the side effects are the potential
toward hostility, violence, homicidal ideation, and suicide.

As a long-time advocate for patients in the mental health
system in my community, I have done in-depth research
into issues related to mental health and psychiatric meds.
What I discovered over the years is not one inch short of
diabolical machinations. A large statement? Not if you
    do the research.

Drs. David Healy (Cambridge), Peter Breggin (Harvard)
and Joseph Glenmullen (Harvard) have published heavily
for years, exposing the truth about certain psych’ meds.
They have given seminars and legal testimony. There are
countless doctors involved in trying to bring the truth out
into the light of day. Still, the majority of the general public
remain in the dark about these undeniable facts because, for
one thing, the evidence is suppressed by our government and
the MSM. These drugs are a multi-trillion dollar industry.Lest
you think I am a conspiracy theorist, please research this. Find
the primary sources and read up and down the spectrum.

There are at least 22 international regulatory warnings
against certain psych’ meds. Isn’t it time the public knows
what medications these murderers were on or had been on
    at some point?
What are the medical histories of these people? The use of
psych’ drugs by mass murderers in the past several years
is shockingly high. There are stats available on the Net.

Quite obviously, it doesn’t take such drugs to generate evil from
the hearts of people. Islamic terrorists, Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin,
Lenin, and too many others come to mind. But can such drugs
instigate powerful violence in our young people? According
to the doctors I mentioned (and countless others)–the answer
    is a resounding “Yes.”

My concern is: What about our children who are dying? What about
our young people perpetrating such evil?

As Mychal writes– evil exists. Even atheists who cannot account
for the existence of evil in their foundational worldview know
it when they see it and call it such. Yes, evil people exist.
From the day that Cain murdered his younger brother, we have
all been exposed to such evil. We all know that it doesn’t take
a drugged brain to produce violence but does it, in fact, come
strongly into play in many of these horrid murders brought about
    by young people?

May we seek truth at all cost for the sake of all of our children.

  21. Frank Licary December 20, 2012 at 3:59 pm #

The best way to prevent future murders is to swiftly try and execute murderers within 3 months. But our "liberal" society does not value the victims' lives enough to do that.

  22. SunnyVee December 20, 2012 at 10:28 am #

AMEN, Mychal! This was so very well written, and insightful. Evil exists, and there is nothing we can do to stop it, if evil wants to have its way. Right now, we have an administration and Congress that is permeated with evil, pushing their evil agenda at a breath-taking speed. Only evil could conceive of and legalize abortion, gay marriage, and now, marijuana.

My heart breaks for the people in CT who have lost so much. But I do not want to give up my rights just because they were victimized.

No matter what happens, our earthly suffering is temporary. My hope is in God, and that in the end, He will win over all the evil in the world.

  23. Jean Scheele Holley December 20, 2012 at 3:23 pm #

The ONLY bright spot here is we are now aware of exactly who will throw us under the bus when push comes to shove. Those in Congress or in positions that could influence, who will ultimately cave on the idea of turning in guns or otherwise our freedoms will be known.
I think the very lowest point could be those just mentioned may use this as a witch hunt to go after a new definition of mental illness that could be used to go after anyone they think is in their way of turning this country into a fascist state.

  24. Danease Gresch December 20, 2012 at 3:19 pm #

Yes there are some very ignorant people out there who think the guns caused the deaths. As awful as this tragedy was – and it was incomprehensible – we need to seek to better stop the "people" perpetrating the acts. Banning guns and clips won't do that. Lawfully trained people with concealed carry permits will. I'm getting mine as soon as I can. If I can stop one death by an evil person, it's worth it.

  25. Mechele R. Dillard December 20, 2012 at 3:18 pm #

Some may not like this, but it is true, nevertheless… good job, Mr. Massie.

  26. JoAnn Dolberg December 20, 2012 at 3:11 pm #

We are in desparate need of an honorable moral values revival in this country!

  27. Ben December 20, 2012 at 10:07 am #

Another great article. We truly have evil occupying the WH and much of DC. Unless we have some godly patriots, who are not afraid to call “evil” evil, we will not survive.

  28. Don Mosely December 20, 2012 at 3:03 pm #

Banning, restricting , outlawing guns is about as logical as banning the innocents so as not to provide murders with potential victims.
