How Hard Is It To Obtain A Photo ID?

I don’t know what your tolerance level is like, but I personally do not suffer idiocy well. And there is a pandemic of idiocy and a lot of it is coming from politicians.

Case in point: Obama uses Eric Holder and his Justice Department as attack dogs to establish policy he would never be able to pass legislatively. The current issue is photo identification in order to vote.

Even a person with the IQ of an empty flower pot can understand that there is nothing punitive about showing a photo ID to vote. Yet Obama has Holder fanning the flames of racial discord by using words like “disenfranchisement” and “poll tax.”

There is documented evidence, from the John Kennedy election forward, of voter fraud. There is documented evidence of ACORN groups engaging in fraud during their voter registration drives. There is documented evidence of dead people voting, and well-known celebrities voting in towns they’ve never visited much less resided in. There is documented evidence of cartoon characters registering to vote. There is documented evidence of a person posing as Eric Holder himself successfully registering to vote.

Voting is the single most important civic act a person participates in. Why would the president want to undermine the integrity of the voting process? And what, pray tell, does it say about the character of a man who knowingly, with forethought and intent, commits to do so?

Why isn’t Congress taking action against this? Voting is a Constitutional privilege, and it is a right, as long as certain basic protocols are followed. In brief, those protocols are: the voter must be a legal resident, they must be registered, they must vote where they are registered, and they must, in fact, be who they say they are. It is assumed that they must prove they are a legal resident and that they are who they say at the time of registering. How onerous is that?

People in foreign countries are fighting for corruption-free elections, but here–we have a president and Justice Department fighting to ensure the probability of fraud. One living, breathing, legal person equals one vote. It would seem to be a no-brainer, but that is not what Obama’s Chicago machine wants.

What is worse is that they are willing to fan the flames of racism to accomplish their Leninist desire for voter corruption. Let there be no doubt that when Holder and Nancy Pelosi use the word “disenfranchised” in a sentence pursuant to voting they are using code-speak as a means of talking directly to blacks. And in 2012, we have people who are willing to believe that evil white conservatives are trying to prevent them from voting.

Obama, Pelosi, and Holder try to frame the argument that they are specifically talking about elderly people living in rural areas. They try to frame the argument that it would be a financial burden for these people to obtain a “free” government ID card. Have they lost their minds or have we lost ours?

If these nebulous, elderly people, to whom they refer, are collecting any form of government assistance, medicare or medicaid they had have to presented identification to obtain same. This isn’t the 1800′s when there weren’t good roads and the only transportation was a mule or horse-and-buggy. How do these people go to the store, church, the doctor, etc?

In order to enter a Michelle Obama book signing, it is necessary to have a photo ID and a social security number. Is the integrity of her book signing more important than our elections? Apparently they think so.

We need to raise our voices loud and clear about this. Arguing that Obama is using this as an issue to turn out black voters is only half the truth. Obama, Holder, and Pelosi are against photo ID to vote, because they want and need the corruption to take place as it did in 2008, now that people are seeing Obama for what he is. That said, it’s a valid argument that Obama is guilty of aiding and abetting in voter fraud by having Holder threaten states for daring to put safe guards in place to prevent it. But I digress.

The Obama campaign wants corruption to take place because they fear without it, Hussein Obama may actually have to count on an honest election to win. He may have to actually convince blacks to come out and vote for him without convincing them that evil whites are out to get them.

I have to show a photo ID or driver’s license once a year to renew my library card, to pay for merchandise with a check, and at my doctor’s office. Also at my polling place in my community I must show it before my name is crossed off the voter list for that particular day. I figured that was the rule across the board. Apparently not.

elaine w: we must show photo ID because apparently we are better off than the poor folks on government assistance…for them its a hardship…what a load of nonsense…

I don’t disagree with the statement that there is corruption, but it would sure help your case if you could provide some citations. When I talk to people on the other side of the issue, that is the repeated comeback.
“Our democracy is under siege from an enemy so small it could be hiding anywhere,” joked Stephen Colbert.
I’d love some better ammunition, Mychal.

I went to our public library today to get a library card. Guess what, I HAD TO SHOW THEM MY DRIVER’S LICENSE………………..to get a LIBRARY CARD???

    Something seems screwy…….

    • Mychal July 27, 2012 at 7:37 pm #

betrayed: identification to get a library card is important…they need to know who to chase down if the book isn’t returned…that’s not necessary for elections…you can’t make it up…

I just sent this to a black acquaintance of mine who is constantly belittling me because I’m a conservative. We had a conversation on facebook about Voter ID and he thinks it’s just terrible… After asking him 4 or 5 times to name just one person he knew who didn’t have a picture ID he came up with some 92 year old relative. I truly find that hard to believe but he says he’s a Christian so I’ll have to accept his answer. However, she must be very healthy, not have a bank account, or like Betrayed said, go to the library. The 90 year old lady who lives with me has one and I have to have one to pick up some of her medicine….. He’s really messed up in the head about a lot of things.

I have to have a photo ID to do so many things that I can’t even fathom how someone can live here and not have one.

dlb: you need a photo ID at rent-a-center…but apparently these criminals don’t think it necessary for voting…

If they really cared about people voting, they would make sure those elderly people who perhaps can’t drive get a ride to the polling locations (I bet they all have an ID). This argument is just beyond ridiculous.

    • Mychal July 27, 2012 at 7:58 pm #

dlb: if they cared about voting obama would order holder to prosecute the new black panthers for voter intimidation…

If people can get out and drive voters to the polls, then they scan drive them to get an ID. I saw a sign being waved by a woman and it read “I ONLY GOT TO VOTE ONE TIME”.
I was asked for my I.D. this week to buy wine! I am over half a century old! I stopped looking under age decades ago.
It is clearly sneaky and dirty not to require I.D. to vote.
Great Job Mychal! Love your columns.

This is my first post on this board. I am from Bombay, India. India, as most of you know, is the world’s largest democracy with a voting population in excess of 700 million voters. India also has a per capita income of just about US$ 1000. Yet voter ID is an absolute must to vote in our elections. If India can do it, surely the greatest democracy on Earth, the US can ??? Yes, the US can and should have compulsory voter ID and the ONLY reason why Obozo is against it is because he would like to rig the elections in his favor. PREVENT THE CHEAT from doing so, I fervently urge you guys.

I am a missionary in Guatemala and get asked by my Guatemalan friends about voter ID. They have heard about it on Latin America News Sources, CNN etc. ALL REPEAT ALL NO EXCEPTIONS shake their head in disbelief that we do not require ID from every voter. They have to show national ID in order to vote here. The only reason they can think of that the current administration resists photo ID is that the Democratic Party is corrupt and wants to steal the election. This from a developing third world nation…. speaks volumes doesn’t it.

Wisconsin implemented a policy of free IDs for anyone who couldn’t afford one, but a state judge still ruled that requiring one to vote constitutes a hardship. Yet this same “disenfranchised” person can’t apply for public aid or ss benefits, get a job, cash a check, get a PO box, or turn on a utility, cable or home phone without one. As a matter of fact, it is illegal in most cities in Wisconsin to be of a certain age and not carry identification. This elective “concern” is touching, but any ethical person recognizes it for what it is… the blatant encouragement of voter fraud. Were it not, Liberal Democrats would also be fighting for the right of people to do the aforementioned things without showing ID.

I maintain, loudly and clearly yet again, that if I have to show a photo ID to get a colonoscopy, then showing one to elect leaders of our country and community only makes sense! Every time I get an outpatient procedure, blood test, or x-ray, I have to show a photo ID. Even with an extrememly overactive imagination, I still can’t even begin to guess why this is necessary for THAT. But, for voting, one of our most cherished rights AS CITIZENS, well, it makes perfect sense.

We have to show a photo ID to vote where I live, and I like that, a LOT! It’s reassuring, and makes me think the process works.

And speaking of disenfranchised—how do we, legal voters feel, when the New Black Panthers threaten and intimidate voters, and then the chief law officer of our country, the incredibly corrupt Holder, refuses to prosecute them or any other “black on white” crime? I’ll tell you how I feel—DISENFRANCHISED! And in a very big way! I am sick of living at the very bottom (until the next affront to my liberties) of Alice’s Rabbit Hole! With Obama and his corrupt cronies in office, it just keeps getting deeper and deeper and darker and darker!

I would be considered an elderly person residing in rural America. I have a driver’s license and when that is taken away, I will get a photo ID from the motor vehicle department.

Let’s see, wasn’t it the Democrats who instituted the poll tax in the first place to disenfranchise the newly freed blacks to prevent them from voting Republican! That party has a loooong history of corruption. There should never be another Democrat alllowed to hold office ever again. To paraphrase obama in the 2010 runup-’D’ doesn’t stand for ‘drive’ – it stands for ‘dump’! Anyone who’s ever tried to cash a check at their local bank knows you have to provide ID and while I’m not in favor of a national ID card, it’s still a good idea to have one. Heck, I had to get a state-issued (non-drivers) ID for my 87 year old mother just so she could cancel her cell phone plan she had joint w/ my sister. How ridiculous is that?

  14. Clara July 25, 2012 at 12:29 pm #

I was telling my kids the other night when we were watching TV together and an Obama campaign commercial came on, ” You know what really angers me about this man? The fact that here, I am a naturalized citizen and I KNOW I could never be president. But HE can come in and sit in the White House and no one cares whether he is from the US or not.” THAT’s my take on all this hogwash. My kids all laughed and then they asked me if I’d like to be pres. and I said,”Aaaahhhhh Hell no!” lol

It is truly incredible to me that the new “last refuge” of scoundrels is not religion or patriotism but standing up for the rights of “others”. Which others? They seem to be, in this case, those who are either too absentminded to have ID on them (try getting on a plane or buying beer at the 7 Eleven) or undocumented illegals who have no right whatsoever to be near a polling booth.

Both Holder and Pelosi have indicated that it’s just too big a burden for certain minorities to obtain photo ID of any sort. Why are they permitted to insult the intelligence and initiative of entire groups of “others” based their ethnicity? Why is it a bigger burden for my neighbor to have a photo ID than it is for me? Explain this racial slur Mr. Attorny General. Explain this race baiting that you and Pelosi are publicly induging in as a thinly veiled attempt to divert public attention from the massive
illegal voting fraud that you are planning for 2012. We want answers sir.

There are many times that a photo ID must be used and we all know what I’m addressing. People who do not have photo ID cards can easily obtain from the State they live in. Where I vote, I know each and everyone of the people at the poll but I have to show my photo ID card, my driver’s license, and my signature is matched with the signature on their registration sheets. If I don’t produce my photo ID right away, they ask for it. I’m with you, Mychal, and many others that the tongue lashing we take from this Administration is all about gaining illegal votes. IT’S TIME for everyone to have Photo ID or don’t vote at the polls. I’m still uneasy about absentee voting. Plus, is it true that all “vote counting” will go to Brazil? And, When and why did this take place? Is that legal?

  17. DGSG July 25, 2012 at 11:48 am #

    Dear Mr. Massie,

I drove “the little bus” in a small town in New Hampshire from 1990-1994. When it is asked,”How hard is it to get a ‘free’ government ID?” I can tell you that it is very simple and easy. When each of the “mentally challenged” and/or “physically disabled” students I transported turned 21 years of age, someone in the school system would see to it that they got a government photo ID, as none of these students had the capability of passing a test to obtain a driver’s license. They would however be able to use the photo ID to purchase cigarettes, alcohol, and to vote. The plain government issued photo ID card looks very similar a driver’s license.

Furthermore, after my mother had a stroke in 1998 and could no longer drive, my father had no problem getting her a government photo ID. She has been in a wheel chair, in a nursing home for the last 6 years. At 83 she can go out to lunch and have an alcoholic drink (not that she would be carded anyhow). If she so desires she can use her government ID to vote, as she was born and raised, and descended from Americans for at least five generations.

I have worked the polls here in Florida and everyone who comes through the door with the desire to vote is asked to show their photo ID. We affirm that they are voting in the district where they live. When I lived in New Hampshire, and voted, I was always asked to show a photo ID. The necessity to have a legal photo ID to vote, as you are aware, has only recently become a matter for controversy. When first hearing the ridiculous arguments, about it being a form of profiling, I was almost baffled. Everyone, everywhere, has been showing a photo ID to vote for years. This just shows how “the left” can create and twist an issue that never existed.

I am asked to show a photo ID to cash a check at the bank where I have my bank account, even if the check I am cashing is drawn on the same bank, and I have written the number of my checking account on the check. I go through this every week. If you object and mention that you are the same person you were last week, you will be told it is “policy” and “it is for your own protection.”

Showing a photo ID to vote, has been, and should be our country’s policy, done for the protection of our people and way of life.

    • pblee July 25, 2012 at 12:24 pm #

I too have worked the polls in Florida, Palm Beach County to be exact.”Ground Zero” for polling screw ups can be an interesting and educational experience, but always at the end of the day I have gone home knowing the American system is the best the world has ever seen. Every legal vote cast is a precious expression of hard won freedom and its blessings. Get ready for round 2 with the “Voting Rights Attorneys” that the Obama slime squad sends out…

  18. Carpenter July 25, 2012 at 11:38 am #

As a union carpenter we have to show our Drivers license, S.S.card and pass a urine test when hired on a new job. But the liberals need the mouth breathing droolers too stupid to get an I.D. card to get some votes. By the way our Union is always on us to vote Democrat, but most of my Union Carpenter buddies are conservative and just smile and give a covert finger to them. We need the work after all.

The dictionary defines ‘Treason’ as – the offense of acting to overthrow one’s government or to harm or kill its sovereign.

Voter fraud on the scale to which it has grown certainly fits this definition. I believe we are long overdue in enforcing the laws against treason in this Country.

  20. CCNV July 25, 2012 at 9:04 am #

I always have to show photo ID when I vote. It’s NOT that big of a deal. People complaining that purchasing a photo ID for $2-$4 will disrupt their budgets probably should cancel their cell phone and cable TV, quit smoking and give up the bar scene.

    Thank GOD for this website!

    • walt July 25, 2012 at 11:42 am #

obama (emphisis on small o ) knows he needs to win and to do that he needs to steal the vote. Mitt should know he needs to win by 40 points to make up for the stolen votes and sqeak by with a narrow victory.
