I awakened this morning to news that Obama was proposing another $300 billion in spending to stimulate jobs. That’s it? That’s his plan? Extend unemployment benefits, extend payroll tax cut, tax credits for companies that hire an unemployed person – in brief he’s proposing more of the same things that have cost billions upon billions, but haven’t worked.
Where is this money supposed to come from? The late Sen. Everett Dirksen, R-IL, said: “[Think these are just] drops in the bucket?…A million here, a million there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.” With Obama it is “a few hundred billion here, a few hundred billion there, – so what – we can print more.”
What needs to be remembered is that government can only spend what it takes, by constraint from us. Taxpayers cannot afford to continue footing the bill for his wife’s haute couture lifestyle, his golfing life, and his political philosophy that the way to solve every problem is by growing government and spending.
Referencing Dirksen again, he also said: “it is [easy] to say, oh, it is only $20,000,000, or it is only $80,000,000, or it is only $240,000,000 a year that will be taken out of the pockets of the taxpayer. But where will it finally stop? I do not know.”
I say the place it can stop isn’t the ballot box, as such, next november. Keep in mind that George W. Bush was no stranger to spending. It will stop when we the voters start reassessing our role in the problem. I have long held, that government only does what the elected knows it can get away with. Ergo, it is up to we the voters to exercise our Constitutional rights to rein in government.
But, the likelihood of that happening is slim to none, because the voters have not only bought into the lie of a free lunch, they have grown expectant of it. Obama is not the reason, as such, for where we find ourselves today. We are! He is the outcome of our dereliction and abrogation of our Constitutional responsibility to our country. We dropped the ball and now we are looking for someone to blame. We bought the lies and baloney of politicians because it served our interests. And, we are still willing, even if with a certain degree of trepidation, to buy the lies of politicians and party elites in anticipation of getting something for nothing.
I heard a woman focus group member, formed to discuss spending, miserably complain about government spending – but when it came right down to it, she wasn’t willing to give up the programs, that she thought, she was benefiting from. And that is what it comes down to. It is also exactly what clever politicians dangle to get elected.
I am unapologetic in my contempt and condemnation of Obama. He is a loathsome, dishonest, narcissistic socialist, who is wholly given over to big government-tax-spend-control. But, he didn’t elect himself – the people did. John Boehner is just the other side of the same coin, but he didn’t elect himself either – the voters did. This country is in the mess it is today, because many sat on the sidelines passively allowing politicians to usurp and corrupt more and more of our Constitutional freedoms.
It is not entirely accurate to say Obama doesn’t have a clue. He has a clue, it’s just that that clue is antithetical to what we want it to be. Obama’s plan for the economy is to grow government and public works projects. In other words, he is recycling Roosevelt’s programs which are a huge part of the problem we face today.
This cycle will continue even if Obama, (and I hope he does), looses every state in 2012. Until we the voters take control of our political destiny, and stop listening politicians willing to say whatever it takes to get elected and party hierarchy who have their own agenda – we will continue to replace the bad with bad. We need to keep that in mind, as Obama spins his web with speeches, and as hopefuls and wannabes promise whatever their handlers say it will take to get elected.
The one thing we should definitely do is pick our own candidates – not permit the media and party hierarchy make that choice for us.

Exactly! Like I commented before “I’m not picking the Winner, I’m picking A Winner”
Dave McBlane: and that’s the way it should be…I reject the idea that I should back another because my pick didn’t finish…if I had wanted the other pic I would have chosen them to start w/…
Mychal,
What we need is for Latinos and Blacks to stand up, think clearly, and tear this man out of the White House as fast as possible. Install a conservative, truly empathetic leader who respects the rights of Americans as he would want them himself. I don’t care what color or ethnic group this person represents, it’s the character, intelligence, and honesty that matters.
I have always known from the beginning that Obama is a dictator. Intuition told me, and everyone needs to stop lying to themselves, and finally admit to themselves what he is. It also disgusts me that already successful white people, like nancy pelosi, would follow this ridiculousness. We have already found that Pelosi is doing this for the same reasons: to steal the people’s money and live high on the hog.
dbuls: what need is for americans to do what is in best interest of our nation…vote him out and vote those in congress out…we need fresh blood and we need to send the message that nation belongs to us…color of skin is inconsequential…forget color and focus on what is right to do…
Mychal,
Everything i have shouted out about Obama is true. My family came out of the Chicago gangland style of politics, and used to warn against that mentality and disgusting corruption. When many people loved the Daley regime, my family warned against it. Now, we have a President who has been reared by that thinking. Imagine if we let him to whatever he wanted? The country would be destroyed before the month was out.
Wasting and abusing other people’s money is an age old practice of the “powerful” and disgusting. I can’t even believe that some people consider it “their money” once it hits the Treasury. It’s unbelievable. We need to elect a career businessman, who understands the meaning of finance, investment, and protecting wealth. I wonder what the country would look like today if Ross Perot had been elected. He would have been Ronald Reagan, with a business mind. Reagan was a true “American” if there is one, but he was naive about macro economics, hence the Wall Street debacle due to de regging the financial industry.
If we had only “reasonable” corruption in this country, everyone would probably have money to spare. Instead, we are allowing people to take our rights. I have been to communist countries, and believe me, you don’t want to go there.
dbuls: I agree w/ your family’s sentiments…that said we need a president who first of all fears God…secondly revers his family, the constitution, and our nation…he doesn’t have to be a business genius…but we want him to know how to select people who are…that means using his own selection team…it also means not giving high level appointments to the same old retreads…fresh blood w/out ties to washington is what we need…
Mychal,
Forgive me, but a bit of venting.
You have hit it on the head again. This idea that we have the government we have because we voted for it, doesn’t get talked about much. It is too easy for us the blame others or this party or the other.
Money flows into Washington and every single person gets to the feeding troth as fast as they can to get their share of that pie.
My daddy used to say, “first hog to the troth”. And in fact, we must pretty much like it that way. It is an attitude of “we think we need more, therefore, You need to give it to us, so we give you, our representative, permission to go and take it from our fellow citizens.
We have to face the truth about ourselves: we are a selfish, self centered people.
But we are also noble, at times. Can we rise to the occasion to help our fellow man who is suffering lose from fire, earthquake, hurricane, etc. any where in the world? Fight to save people from evil dictators, absolutely. But those things happen suddenly, without notice many times. The need so great, it is easy to reach out with help, our sympathy level very high. So how is it that we can help others, even on the other side of the globe, and yet get into into such financial disaster here at home. Because we can’t see our own sinfulness.
When we experienced the prosperity years back, when we had full employment, the sock market was going gang busters, everyone was doing well, how many people saved up money for the lean years. Damn few I think. Even ants and squirrels are smarter than we are. Most of us spent all we had on the toys we wanted and went into debt.
Look at the personal debt in America. Getting into houses they couldn’t afford lead to devastation of their own credit and eventually to millions more as value of houses fell. Our government just followed along.
They had all the money coming in, so instead of saving some for the “lean” times, they spent it all and more “doing” things for their districts, and voters. Why ,it would look terrible if the government were just sitting on all that money instead of spending it, when they could be “helping” so many, don’t you know. (Putting money into the sacred “lock box” would have been a good idea.)
The argument goes, “we need to help those who have fallen behind, can’t take care of themselves.”
Well, OK. I agree that there are a lot of people who do not have the mental or physical capacity to do things for themselves. But over the years more and more people find ways to claim they can’t do things for themselves and reach out to their “neighbors”, i.e., the government for help. isn’t it evident by now that the more government does to “help”, handing out other peoples money for all kinds of things, the more people wanting something seems to grow.
Once the goodies start flowing, who wants to tell people, the gravy trains is dry, the pantry is bare, hey, we are flat broke, guys. We have become a country of imbalance, more takers than givers. We learned about takers and givers in the sand box at Kindergarden. And Obama wants to create more takers than givers.
Eventually, some people begin to shout for smaller government and less spending, and I agree. But it is almost too little too late. We the people have let this get to this point. We have all gotten some goodies, and by gosh, the attitude is yes, too much spending, cut taxes, what ever, just DON’T TOUCH MINE. As I have said now for some time that when government becomes more relevant to a society than God, then that society is doomed. We get all mixed up thinking government is God. Well, we can see what a mess that kind of stinking thinking has made through out history.
Obama keeps talking about “sacrifice”. I think what he means is a whole lot different than what I think it means. In his world, the government will force you to sacrifice, when in reality that is not what sacrifice is at all. Sacrifice is an individual choice for doing something greater, outside of our selves. I can choose to sacrifice to help my neighbor by giving money or food or what ever so that their suffering will be minimized,at the expense of myself. It is a selfless act based in love and compassion for others. But if you are forced to sacrifice, it is nothing more than government using force and stealing more of other peoples money.
So I am saying now, on the record, that I would “sacrifice” a portion of my social security if I trusted that those in power had learned the lesson this debt has taught us. And I think others would too. I would gladly donate to the Treasury 5% of what I get from S.S. to right our ship of state. And maybe someone starting a movement would have a great impact on recovery. Maybe I should be that one. Maybe I’ll end up looking a fool and being a bit poorer. I ‘ll have to think about it.
If we had a leader who loves this country, and her people, who recognizes that we have all versed off course, who will encourage us, help to see our weaknesses, praise us for our strengths,
and set a new course that will enable all Americans to work together to reestablish our place in the world as an honorable nation, full of grace, then I think many many people would come along. Like I said, I’ll have to think about it.
As for our current occupant of the Oval Office, I can’t stand him, and I believe he really hates America, his policies are about control of the masses, and how can I fool them today. Because I am not willing to just go along with every new(old) piece of garbage he hangs out and tells me it is a new idea, that will fix all the problems, I get called names by his supporters and he says nothing to refrain them.
And because I don’t agree with him, I called a racist, a terrorist, a barbarian. I am an American, too. I can think, for myself thank you, and I think he is wrong. I am feed up with apologies for our country, and being blamed for everything wrong in the world. And I sure as heck don’t need to be lectured to by a president would has displayed only disdain for the people who put in the power (except those who line his pockets with cash) and for the country that has enabled him to rise to the top.
He has never shown one ounce of humility or graciousness for his fortune.
It is about time for him to show us, WE THE PEOPLE some respect. But I am not going to hold my breath.
Amelia: he and everyone of those people condemning america…and complaining about america…who are doing their best to deconstruct america and mold it into their idea of what america should be…need to remember that the reason they are free to do same w/ impunity is because many of us living today and the majority of those who lived long ago made it possible…in the countries he and his ilk praise…we could just shoot him and the other usurpers…or they could end up missing forever…but they don’t take that into account…I find it interesting that in the one nation in the world where freedom truly exists…these miscreants decry it…go figure…
Mychal…I believe since before the 08 election, having read whatever resource was available to me (or that I could find considering my limited computer experience) about Barry was that nothing he does or doesn’t do if an original thought. Unfortunately for us, all of his “original thoughts” came from the likes of Saul Alinskey, Cloward and Piven, his “friends in the neighborhood” Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn, his chief ideologue and string puller George Soros.and Rev. Bomb Thrower whose pews he sat in for 20 years prior to the election, yet he couldn’t recall any of his anti-American hate filled “sermons”.
It pains me to hear all of these conservative pundits professing to their audiences how Obama is “out of ammo” and has no clue how to fix the American economy. Obama KNOWS exactly what he is doing and always has. The collapse of the US economy is exactly what he and all those listed above, intend to pursue. Alinskey’s book “PRIMER FOR RADICALS” (I believe is correct) spells it all out, and Obama is following it to a “T”. In his new world order, the “new HAVES” will be the political elite such as himself….not the capitalists and entrepreneurs who built this country……and the “new HAVE NOTS” will be US…including you and me. He has surrounded himself with Czars to handle all of his foot and dirty work…heading up the EPA….HUD….etc. He is a dangerous man, not the idiot some would believe…..we need to convince the fencesitters that the 2012 election is vital to our society remaining the Republic intended and fought for by our forefathers.
boomer25: it is becoming increasingly clear that he is a combination of adhering to an economic philosophy that doesn’t work, incompetence, and a commitment to transform the nation into a global sewer answerable to the united nations…
I could not have said it better!!! Excellent article. You know, it simply does not take a rocket scientist to know right from wrong and it never ceases to amaze me at the vast numbers of people who just cannot seem to figure it out. It is wrong to take what is not yours. It is wrong to victimize and lie to people for any reason even at the expense of saving face. The list could go on and on but the fact is, if a person has to be told these things as an adult, then they have a serious problem. It is a sad thing to see so much power in the hand of a socialist-bent, pro-Muslim egomaniac/narcissist like Obama. I feel sorry for his girls as this type of gross lack of compassion for others combined with an entitlement complex will, no doubt, be their lot in life.
tthan43: its not so much him that concerns me…it is those who are still supporting him and who put him in office to start w/…
The people in this country were looking for someone to ‘save’ them…..instead they voted for a ‘modern day Hitler’ who sold everyone down the river. There was never any ‘salvation’ for this country with Obama. It was all about his opportunity to be a ‘dictator’ , wanting everyone to jump at his command. Thank God that some people, like yourself, are intelligent enough to see the real, entire picture, and puts it out in writing for hopefully, all to see.
And flaunting all their extravaganses to the world when so many people are suffering really hits the bottom of the barrel in ethics and compassion. Obama has done more to damage the image of America to all the other countries than any other combination of Presidents combined. Nothing would make me happier than for him to step down….however, his narcissistic opinion of himself will never allow him to do that….let alone be truthful about anything he’s done or said. Culture of Corruption was an excellent book and right on target about Obama.
leachristel: he is what happens when you trust w/out verifying…
Who counts the votes? After the publicized debacles in the last several elections and the continued lib/prog insistence on enabling voter fraud will it stop at the ballot box?
NMHunter: dead people have played an important part in the voting process since kennedy…that said obama employs acorn and the new black panther party…al franken fortunately found the ballots he needed to win in the trunk of a car in the parking lot or wherever…
So how do we stop voter fraud? It’s already illegal, yet nothing happens.
insist on voter ID….arrest any dead person voting…and have public groups watching polls and chkg vote counts…
