The Daily Rant on Obamacare

Obamacare: Crutch For The Irresponsible

There was a time when people understood that personal responsibility meant, “being personally responsible” for their lives and those of their families. But today personal responsibility means “I’ll do what I want and the taxpayers vis-a`-vis the government will take care of me”.

For many years I owned and operated a very successful full service insurance agency – accordingly I had a ringside seat for dereliction of personal responsibility.

One of my clients was a Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA law firm. I recall a paralegals working there telling me that she didn’t need the health insurance being offered by the firm through my agency because there was a free clinic down the street from her home. In her mind, “free” trumped her having to participate in the health premiums each month by way of a co-pay. And she could also take her daughter there.

[adsanity id=8405 align=alignleft /]There was a gentleman who assured me his responsibility pursuant to providing for his retirement ended with the money taken out of his paycheck for Social Security. He argued that it was the government’s job to “provide Social Security” because not everyone was capable of saving money on their own so, the government should do it for them. He felt that way even as I explained the interest rates the program I was offering were far superior to Social Security and that his employer, just as with Social Security, could withdraw his participation from his check. I was told he didn’t need it because he would have his Social Security

Suffice it to say that people like the aforementioned are the ones who obamacare appeals to most. The idea of something for nothing and/or having the government take care of people is their idea of “died and gone to heaven.”

While these two are not the only ones to argue similarly with me, it is a lifelong friend who epitomizes what a lack of personal responsibility does to a person.

My friend owned a small business that in the halcyon days of newspapers afforded him a very comfortable income. Flush with plenty of disposable cash he spent it freely on lottery tickets and sporting memorabilia.

He did not spend on vacations or big-ticket luxury items. He spent on lottery tickets and sporting memorabilia. Many were the discussions we had pursuant to his buying health insurance and investing in some sort of vehicle that would provide for him in the almost certain eventuality of his incapacitation.

I also tried to convince him that the success and longevity of his business was predicated wholly upon the success and longevity of the print newspapers and to think about other options while he could still sell his business. Instead he refused at least two very lucrative opportunities to transition into other businesses.

I mentioned earlier “the almost certain eventuality of his incapacitation,” for good reason. His father, mother, older brother and older sister, and also other family members suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and crippling strokes very early in life.

He suffered his first (and prayerfully his last) stroke in his late 50’s. Every member of his family had suffered multiple strokes at much younger ages. His mother, brother, father died from strokes and related complications after long periods of suffering and his sister, while still alive, suffers massively from stroke related complications.

At the time of his stroke he had no health insurance, no life insurance, and next to nothing in savings or retirement plans.

Enter obamacare and the rest, as they say is “history.” My friend and I had always shared political and spiritual opinions in kind. We spent many hours discussing how to live the Christian life and biblical truths. We spent time at one another’s home. He is like a family member to my son. He is like a brother to me. But once the bridle of the idea of something for nothing was over his head and the bit of same in his teeth, he virtually overnight became a totally different person.

Less than two years after becoming involved with obamacare his position is that it is the government’s job to take care of people. He now argues that those who are rich according to whatever his definition of same is at that moment, “should pay another 40-50 percent in taxes to take care of people.” He argues that government Social Security is a good thing and a necessity because “it” takes care of people.

And even more appalling, he now argues socialism is good for people because he couldn’t afford to live if it weren’t for obamacare. He believes that the so-called rich should pay more so when he retires in another year he more benefits.

When this new mindset was first shared with me, he was crushed by my condemnation of his newly embraced ideology refusing to answer my phone calls. I was recently able to establish contact with him. He said that my strong words had hurt him. I apologized for hurting his feelings but not for what I said because it was truth.

I told him he was my lifelong friend and that I loved him and was truly thankful for all he had meant in our lives as friends. But I would not agree that government owed him anything apart from the opportunity provided to everyone.

He had had the means to provide for his eventuality and a solid professional in myself to help him make astute decisions pursuant to same. He had watched his family members and siblings suffer and yet he did not prepare for what was to come.

These are the people obamacare preys upon. They are easily converted into government automatons; wittingly or unwittingly spewing the benefits of socialism.

The people I reference herein made conscious decisions that either did impact their lives adversely, or had the very real likelihood of impacting their lives adversely.

Instead of taking personal responsibility for their future at least one of them, (and knowing the other two referenced as I did, probably all of them) squandered away their money and future on foolishness. Now it is we the taxpayers and those they deem to have more than them who are supposed to provide for them.

I’m not opposed to states providing for the care of those in need. I am opposed to federal government edicts creating a zeitgeist whereby people expect to be rewarded for irresponsibility. I am also opposed to being forced to buy into a health program that is more expensive and inferior. Providing for the few who are truly in need should never have evolved into blanket provision for those who are irresponsible.

It seems we have two schools of thought here. One is that your life is your own. Government exists to protect human life and the natural rights of all. The other is that your life is for the benefit of the state and that your rights come from it. A contemptible ideal to say the least.
For those of us who have our heads screwed on straight, we believe the first and our worldview stems from it.
Can you even imagine a world where George Bernard Shaw’s idea of coming before a panel to “justify” your existence??? The very thought is abominable!!!
Life is a sacred gift from the Creator and His Word is very clear how He feels about it. When did hard work, self-reliance, and faith in God become unacceptable???

Common sense has fled the minds of these people. Someone has to pay for their free hand outs, whether it’s their neighbors, other relatives, or complete strangers, through government taxation. Nothing but lies flow from the administration, from the promises that you wouldn’t lose your doctor or your great insurance coverage through the lie concerning the minimum wage. Businesses make enough money, they can afford to almost double their pay rate! Common sense: you cannot raise everyone’s pay by that much and not have to either close your doors or lay people off. Obama and his crew have no idea that even the business OWNER has to pay a mortgage, food for his family, utilities, etc., along with all the overhead connected to owning a business. Nothing but lies from this administration, and it is really pathetic to realize there are so many people out there who can not see it.

It is even more than that. Obamacare is little more than the socialization of medicine to the benefit of a few at the expense of the many to create a spreading of perceived wealth through a system of latent taxes and higher premiums, deductibles, and co-payments for those who must pay the subsidies for others.

This is why I love you because you cover topics many people haven’t. I said this same thing during the crashes in 1995 and 2008. Why is it the lenders got hammered for lending to those who normally wouldn’t be able to qualify yet no one really blamed the BORROWER!!!!!! Everyone I knew that got involved in a sub-prime loan, knew what that loan was about, no one bamboozled them, they signed the contract, yet they didn’t get blamed for the crash because no one wanted to blame the tax payer who votes. When I managed doctors offices in the 70s and 80s, both times I was pregnant and paying cash to have my babies, the girls on welfare would come in and try to convince me to get on medi-caid and how to do it underhandedly. Thank you for your articles and your platform that you can get a voice of truth out to others. Just hope that you get more to listen and understand because I know that’s the real battle.

It is all in the mind…change minds and we change people. This is why truth is so important; but it seems to be a vanishing commodity. Most people who really enjoy the government “freebies,” always seem to reject the only valuable asset they could own, for free: the gift of God’s principle of Spiritual Life! Guess it is just too difficult to build a responsible lifestyle on the principles of truth, (which is what we are supposed to do after we accept God’s gift)! It seems a little bit crazy to build up treasures in material wealth here, since this earth and everything in it is going to be destroyed and replaced! It seems the irresponsible, who obviously enjoy playing mind-games, are playing Russian roulette, with dice loaded against them!

The scam presented to the country with Obama Care was that there are 20 million people in the country that can not afford health insurance and for those that could if you liked your insurance you could keep it and if you liked your doctor you could keep him/her. We all know now that this entire “healthcare’ plan was purposely designed to be a huge scheme to transfer money from those that had it to those that did not. I have a friend, a disabled Marine (a member of the Marine Corps Mr. President, not the Marine Corpse) that was getting the care he needed before Obama Care. Because his doctor did not fit into Obama Care he had to change doctors to one that is farther away and is not familiar with his problems. His premiums are higher also. But the good news is that he now has maternity care for himself. Supposedly there were 20 million people that did not have the insurance as we were told. Now, after Obama there are still 20 million uninsured. But the high school dropouts are OK

People no longer want to work for what they crave. After several generations of socialism taking hold, we now have total dependency by way too many, and an attitude of “they owe me” as evidenced by the rapidly ballooning welfare and Medicaid participants. The government is running a huge shell game, robbing Peter to pay Paul. Where is all that money? Oh, and one of their favorite payees is themselves! No wonder we can’t get anyone out of office once they are elected. They, too, love the freebies and benefits bestowed on them by special interest groups. How any of these “takers” can look themselves in the mirror at all is truly a mystery to me. I love my self worth and believe no matter the circumstances, I can and will find a way outside the government, should I need one. I am dependent on no one except for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and my Heavenly Father.

We had great coverage until obama. Because I am on my wife’s policy (retired) our whole way of getting care had to change because the company she works for had no choice but to change their health plan. I am thankful but every time I heard obama say you could keep your plan, I wanted to puke.

I did not want to participate in social security when it was introduced. I was underage and had no voice. My parents were depression kids and taught us how to save and get the most for our dollar. If money taken by social security was invested , i would be making 6 to 7 times more money and still have my principal! Any program the government runs is a scam and they(all of them) steal the money of hard working and responsible people. Example, organic cattle rancher laid of 47 people on his ranch and 65 grocery store workers. Obama care priced him out of market. Welcome to the United Socialist States of America!
If you hate Big Business and free enterprise why not look at all the successful programs of the government like the post office and green energy programs! Keep looking constantly into your I-phones as a lion is ready to eat you alive! Look up! maybe you’ll see the truth .

Wait until you see how much better the internet will become now that the government has it’s claws into it. I’m sure that everyone will be given a computer and a paid internet program to go along with their Obama Phones.
