Politicians Know This

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that raising taxes without making very deep cuts in austerity programs will accomplish nothing. It is a shell game. Politicians know this, but they are thrilled that there are enough people who do not understand this basic truth. It makes it easier for them to demagogue and employ ad hominem attacks against those of us who do understand the basic truth.

It is not only those who are committed to entitlement programs and the continuation of increased spending on same that do not fully grasp the fiscal danger we are in, but also there are also those who are, I’m sorry to say, looking at things through the same prism that the union workers at Hostess looked through. With that fact in mind, it should be fully understood that the outcome will be the same as with the Hostess’ workers.

We may not all be union employees or even supportive of unions, in fact, many may believe that it’s time to rid ourselves of all unions — but what we do not understand is that just as corporations and municipalities cannot support the weight of increasing debt and unfunded pensions, neither can the federal government. Unfunded liabilities, i.e., Social Security, Medicare, and government pensions, alone are enough for government to collapse under its own weight.

Even well-meaning, rock-solid conservatives are not willing to take cuts to see spending reduced. That is the card that trumps all other concerns for those like Obama who are committed to driving us over the fiscal cliff. Obama and the members of his “Vanguard Party” understand that this issue, above all others, can be the propellant to impel the proletariat toward a revolution.

Obama, like his mentors Lenin and Saul Alinsky before him, has found the one thing people are willing to unite against even if it means their own demise. People are willing to fight to keep the unfunded liabilities in place just as they are even though it is clearly known that doing so will cause monumental collapse.

I believe this collapse is exactly what Obama wants. You can call me crazy, but, going back to the early 1980’s, Obama argued there was a need for people to revolt. The only question was how to bring it about. The answer, it appears, is to let people think they will lose that which is already gone: Social Security and Medicare as they exist because they can no longer be funded. I debated this very issue on Fox Business Channel some time ago.

Factor in the cost of other entitlement spending and there is no way the government can sustain itself.

Raising taxes will not change things. John Stossel makes my point: “It’s fantasy to imagine that raising taxes on the rich will solve our deficit problem. If the IRS grabbed 100 percent of income over $1 million, the take would be just $616 billion. That’s only a third of this year’s deficit. Our national debt would continue to explode.” (Tax the Rich? The Rich Don’t Have Enough. Really.; Forbes.com; 3/4/12)

The pink elephant that the media refuses to report on, politicians don’t want you to realize is there, and many people simply do not see — is that Obama’s sensus plenior for raising taxes is, in part, to punish the so-called wealthy.

Obama is no longer trying to disguise this. He is no longer claiming increased taxes will pay the debt — he is saying the rich must pay their fair share. Fair share is a nebulous phrase because he never says what he believes their fair share is. Obama, like every good Leninist, condemns those who were blessed to reap the rewards of their labor.

I believe there is perhaps another reason Obama wants to punish the so-called wealthy, and that is to ensure that they suffer when government collapses. And let there be no doubt, government is going to collapse because it cannot support itself. The only question is how soon, and Obama has his way, it will not be long.

The real tragedy though is, as I said, those who are calling for reduced spending as long as the reduced spending doesn’t include their specific golden-calf. Which, interestingly enough, makes the phrase “useful idiot” even more appropriate when one considers that many believe it originated with Lenin.

America is doomed to fiscal collapse, not primarily because of a maliciously bad government, but because too many people fear losing what they’ve never had.

    Mychal,

Thank you for all you do for us. You are a great American.I have read all these responses to yur column and I must tell everyone, when you watch the movie, Obama 2016 then you will knoww the real Obama. He’s not a true American that puts his country first. He should never have been allowed to run for President. Now only our other leaders need to stand up and do something. Please keep praying.
    Thank you, Fay Miller

Hi Mychal, sorry I didn’t stay on the subject matter. Been waaaaaaay sick, so have had time to do some reading and research. Possibly too much, as it hasn’t done wonders for my “Christmas Spirit”. There is just so much happening daily, minute by minute, that it’s hard to know where it starts and ends sometimes. Will try and do better next time. ;-)

Mychal, I agree with you, that the politicians know it’s too late to save us from the cliff. There’s hardly any sputtering or bluffing going on in Washington, not in the usual way of years past. It’s unnerving.

When I hear people getting irate about the mega-billions going to corrupt Countries & their Corrupt leaders & that crap comes to an end then I’ll listen to arguements for cutting ‘entitlements’! Look at like this- after I make that last payment on my car (Pay the last SS out of a paycheck)I should be able to keep that car (collect SS Payment) not have the Gov send it to Egypt, Israel, etc! I don’t believe SS was ever a good idea but that never stopped our corrupt Gov from taking it out of every dollar that I worked hard to earn! So PLEASE stop talking about it like it’s a hand out from the Gov because it is not!

    • Pamela Arnold November 30, 2012 at 6:28 pm #

n holiway, It will never stop. Part of the Agenda 21, ICLEI plan is to give to other countries. They want us broke and dependent on what government says we’ll be allowed. No more.

    Mychal,
I totally agree with your stance on this issue. Obama has fooled the foolish. They soooooo believe in him and his band of idiots, Reid, Pelosi et al, that they are blinded to the horrible facts of the worst president ever. The other big problem is that the GOP may walk somewhat in lockstep with him as he tries to dig his little Lenninist heels in regarding taxing the wealthy. Hopefully they remain strong and realize that they HAVE to take a stand at some point and it better be NOW. Taxes aren’t the answer as you ‘ve explained, cutting wasteful government spending I believe is. Good luck on trying to get team Obama to agree to that. Please advise us common citizens of who we need to be mailing, emailing, texting or calling to shore up our support and belief in our conservative representatives to support no more taxes and government reform.
    All the best,
    Chris

Just my opinion; social security is and was a good idea if worked properly unfortunately this has never been the case. There are so many "entitlement" programs our money is wasted on that it would be a major surprise if our government were not buried in debt, welfare being one of the biggest farces of all. Why do we find it necessary to spend billions to feed the starving masses of other countries when we have people here on our own soil who are literally starving to death? Why are illegals given entitlements when they are not citizens? Why does it take an average of $52k per year to keep one inmate in a prison, more than many families make? What have admins. of groups like the United Way etc. done to deserve private jets, limos and such when these same funds were donations from the working class? Why do politicians get retirements after just one term when most workers may not even qualify for retirement after 30 years on a job and our military have to serve a minimum of 20 to be eligible?

I have formulated answers to my own questions easily enough. Greedy bastards are in control and have been for more years than most people want to accept, before Carter, before Eisenhower and even before Taft our government started down the road to ruining America by their own particular brands of greed. The really sad part is that "We The People" have constantly been lulled into a false sense of security by career liars and thieves (politicians).

There is only one viable solution to the crisis facing America and it is the solution no one wants to accept because it requires actions that are to hard for most people to accept. I will not elaborate further because my soap box has been retired. As a parting thought, prisons never seem to reform criminals effectively, illegals are not citizens they are criminals, we are not responsible for feeding countries that hate us, we do not owe the world freedom and "We The People" should dictate to our government and not the reverse, and finally, our government signed the Declaration and Constitution but our people paid the cost in blood, sweat and tears. God Bless America!

Although some call Social Security and Medicare “entitlements,” As I recall, workers had to pay into Social Security and Medicare with businesses matching or paying a portion. I like to call these programs ‘benefits’ and not ‘entitlements.’ I am still paying into Medicare, as I should. Each time there is a cost of living increase (HA!), Medicare receives a healthy portion from the SS checks. (Socialism at its greatest!) As a retired person, I thought my money and that of the businesses I workd for, was going into a huge government account that would be invested to produce more income. Then, I learned that “on paper” SS and Medicare were removed to some ‘general account’ but not actually moved? huh? Yes, it was moved for every tom, dick and harry congressman to promote their programs on how the frog leaps and many other outragious nonsense programs; plus, the Congress could vote wage increase for themselves and guess where that money came from? Is it any wonder SS and Medicare are broke? And, now, Obama has removed billions of dollars from Medicare into his health care rag. If Government cannot control the People’s money designed for specific programs, what do we think will happen with payments made to ObamaCare? Durn straight, that money will be squandered and less health care just like SS and Medicare!! So, when I suggested that my Senators look into demolishing welfare and food stamp programs, nada was heard from them. Illegals have used how much money from all of the working man’s savings programs? There is another issue that leaves a sour taste in my mouth, check on it…Welfare and Illegals have cost the American Tax Payers more money than the war in Iraaq!I It’s a known that SS cannot provide enough money for people to live on and those who thought that would happen have been greatly surprised. Without financial investments to be the main portion of retirement and SS to be the added amount to help pay, say, ongoing utility bills, people could never survive on SS alone. Poor judgement on my part, I invested some good money in all things, GM. Who ever thought that GM would go bankrupt? Now, the Union and Obama own GM through the Stimulus money and GM is going bankrupt again. But, GM is doing well in China and China has the blueprints (as well as some other foreign countries). Neat. Meanwhile, Others and myself have bit the bullet on GM and sucked up our losses. Meaning no more vacations and strict budget – buy only what is ‘needed,’ like toilet paper. We don’t receive catalogues any more so…

    Mr. Massie,
You are 100% on the money (no pun intended at all in view of the situation.)

People have forgotten the sage and farsighted advice of Thomas Jefferson that a government large enough to give you everything you want is also large enough to take everything you have. Brace yourself, free speech (what’s left of it outside of the home) and guns are next on the agenda. It WILL happen here.

  13. Wakinyan November 30, 2012 at 2:13 pm #

Again, many good and accurate points but I also agree with J-M, lumping Social Security in with “entitlement” programs is BS. Most of us have paid into it all our working lives whether we wanted to or not, were taxed on it first and now we are being taxed on it again but of course that isn’t a problem for the thieves in congress that exempted themselves from having to participate in it. In 1964-65 under johnson they decided that fund was too lucrative a target for them to resist and authorized themselves to “borrow” from it for the general fund. Pay it back? Surely you jest. No, we’ll just put in IOU’s and the sheep will never realize what we are stealing from them. Now we who paid for it all our working lives are being blamed by the masters of double speak traitors in the capitol for breaking the system. Any of them who have a single ounce of ethics left in them (that’s a joke) know this but they all continue to perpetrate one of the biggest hoaxes ever pulled on us. Don’t kid yourself, obama and his communist supporters know exactly what they are doing and they are doing it on purpose. Raising taxes “on the wealthy” is more smoke and mirrors to fool the fools. They plan to raise taxes on everybody in one way or another (obamacare for example) and there will be no real spending cuts, just shifts between agencies so it looks to the unwashed masses like they are doing something to “fix” the situation. Shifting 750 billion from medicare to pay for the initial implementation of obamacare even though well over sixty percent of the people said they did not want obamacare yet it was shoved down our throats anyway by an out of control congress and senate run by traitors pelosi and reid then signed by the chief traitor, obama.
They make noises about having to cut spending and everyone having to pay their fair share but are they personally going to have to pay? No, even though most of them could certainly be categorized as wealthy, they mean the OTHER wealthy ones. obama is reportedly a multi-millionaire, how much will his personal fair share be? Cutting federal spending? How about stopping the hundreds of billions we give away in foreign aid every year to countries that hate us and consistently oppose all the United States once stood for? How about stopping the payouts of hundreds of billions every year to people that entered our country illegally and remain here partaking of our largesse they have not earned and are not entitled to. Oh my goodness no! We wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or offend them in some way, besides we can probably find a way to have them vote for us. Instead, next year let’s freeze the pay and benefits for the military and while we are at it let’s increase what they have to pay for medical coverage while reducing that coverage for both active and retirees because, after all, they did volunteer didn’t they and they too should pay their fair share. On top of that cut over 450 billion from the defense budget right now, that’ll teach them that it is better to worship the zero than to even whisper any opposition or criticism of him. Who cares if it sends our capabilities into a tailspin that will soon make us the equal of other third world countries because it isn’t fair for us to be stronger than they are.
Okay, off my soapbox but this whole charade is infuriating.

Is it possible that the “people who do not see” are also the ones who do not pay taxes, but are only on the receiving end? And just like the addict, it either tastes too good or feels too good to stop. Therefore, vote for the dirty bum who keeps the goodies coming your way! And the payers, now in the minority, cannot do a damn thing about it, except watch the train wreck happen.

  15. John McClain November 30, 2012 at 1:17 pm #

I have been calling for constitution minded, conserving, Sovereign Citizens to take a public stance, repudiating every bit of this government, deny its right to exist, deny it as our own, and call it what it is, the “crony establishment between bankers and corporate leaders”, and stating “as it is not our government, We, The People will allow those whose government it is, to assume all its accumulated debt, We, The People are not the debtors, it has been this foreign entity established against our will which owns that debt”.
This intended outcome was planned two centuries ago, as our Nation was demonstrating it had overturned all the old paradigms for governments and for any people willing to choose to be free.
We are called, when testifying in court, to raise our left hand, put our right hand on the Bible, and agree to “tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God”, but our ancestors merely swore on the Bible to tell the truth. The entire reason for the difference is they lived in a time when telling a lie in public was properly responded to by being called out on it, called to repudiate it, and challenged to defend it, to the death if necessary.
What we swear to is no more than the simple, plain meaning of “truth”, nothing more, nothing less. When we choose, as A People, to hold the truth in fact, we will no longer need use the long and excruciating definition, but to get there, we have to decide again, telling the truth is a moral obligation to belong to our society, and we banish those who choose otherwise, they are not acceptable morally, in our society.
The other thing the politicians know is we are not over the “tipping point”, just as Satan believes in God, so do politicians. They know well, any people who call upon God in faith, full of spirit can turn any bad situation around, and God will make a pathway, if we are true.
In the past century, the whole of this nation went from 9 of 10 living and working on farms, to 3 or 4 in a hundred doing so, and from most getting food by exchange and trade, goods for goods, to survival by stores predicting demand.
When the reality of the depression finally hits, it is inevitable for us to return in a large part to barter, to buying only necessities, and having a whole new perspective on what a “necessity” is.
This will happen without regard to what government does, however if the taxes planned are completed, they will raise no revenue at all, because they will be taxes above and beyond our means to pay, and we will increasingly leave the open market, and enter the black market, noting it a crime for government to steal from us when they have already bankrupted us.
If we keep our heads about us, while all those around us are losing theirs, we will keep our arms, We, The People will be sufficient threat to prevent an invasion by foreign forces, and we can make our statement, the debt is not America’s but belongs to those foolish enough to lend politicians money they can’t pay back, and we can deny all responsibility for it, and re-establish our own economy, pushing out government, by refusing to fund it.
In other words, the politicians are playing chicken with us, but we don’t have to play, we simply refuse to do business where taxes are collected.
Most of us think only about the “three estates of government” because we’ve been taught to, focusing our attention on electing legislators, executives, and judiciary, and expecting them to do their job truly and honestly. When they don’t, and haven’t as a long, expanded habit, our founders told the world it is not only our right to alter or abolish such government as won’t serve, but it is our moral duty, because only the well educated, well experienced in life, those who have truly learned the lessons of the world, are capable of making wise decisions that lead to good will in society, and free and equal standing of citizens. The ninth of the Bill of Rights, states the enumerated rights are few, and specific, but the unenumerated rights are legion, and to be discovered by self evidence, and ours every bit as much as enumerated. The Tenth amendment reserves everything not specified as one of the 18 duties and purposes of the Federal Government, is reserved as belonging to the States and The People, respectively.
We, The People, are “the fourth Estate” of government, not the press or any other entity but those who have elected to lend some of our Sovereign Authority to government, that it may fulfill its purpose, with the certainty that as “lent”, every jot and tittle of authority belongs to “The People, who are The Nation”.
By this, we may choose, as A People, to withdraw our consent to be governed at any time for any reasonable cause. If we stand on this principle and give good cause for government to fear our studied and careful withdrawal of our “consent” we can make them turn back our way, and we can readily remove any who don’t. We just have to choose “The Truth” as our fixed, unchanging standard we will not compromise on.
We cannot lose our Nation while we refuse to compromise on truth. We cannot maintain the nation if we allow lies to be used as if they were truths. It is our choice all the way. In the end, it always is “win or die”, but death holds nothing over us if we are true, and bound to it. Edmund Burke said; “evil flourishes only because good men do nothing”. We have a nation filled with evil because we have done nothing for our own truths, but expended all our energy defending half-truths, and quarter truths of other Nation’s that they be indebted to us morally while becoming a people without morals.
It is late, and dark is falling soon, we should be thankful we have the example before us, so we can turn around and get right with God, with each other, and as One People, choosing to return to our righteous beginning principles, and doing a better job of applying them fully, this time.
    Semper Fidelis,
    John McClain,
    GySgt, USMC, ret.

  16. J-M November 30, 2012 at 12:51 pm #

I think a lot of us are mad because the government ‘insurance’ program is now being referred to as an ‘entitlement’ program just as if we haven’t had a lifetime of having our money snatched and put into this so-called social security program. I’m perfectly willing to give that up IF the administration IMMEDIATELY cuts me a refund check for all the money I’ve had stolen from me for this mythical insurance program. I’m even willing to forego interest payments in return for these funds to be returned to me WITHOUT yet more taxes being taken out. I might even be willing to have taxes taken out IF they were the same tax rate as when the money was ripped off.

Welfare programs take up even more of the ‘spending’ than the social security programs that we have already PAID FOR WITH OUR PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS! Is anybody talking about getting rid of most welfare programs? Nope! We are offering foreigners a chance to join in our welfare ranks, even as we supply global welfare to their country of origin. Why is that?

Don’t even get me started on Obama’s statements about taking pain pills instead of getting medical help… That’s only for people who’ve worked hard and contributed to society by the way. Once he’s done with the ‘worker drones’ by all means let’s kill them off. Sort of like people do with their horses who go lame. That’s a great way to reduce the deficit right?

    • Sunny Vee November 30, 2012 at 2:02 pm #

I agree! The only way these funds are “entitlements” is that it IS our money, stolen from our pay over 30+ years, and we ARE entitled to it! Funny, they were sold to us as “insurance”. And of course, now those funds are all long gone now that many of us are of “that age” where we have no choice but to go onto the program, specifically Medicare. Believe me, had I had a choice, I would never have let them take my money and put it in either Social Security or Medicare. Our own investments have grown a thousand fold, compared to these pittances from the government. And now, of course, they want to tap our IRA’s. I am sick to death of the greedy, money gobbling monster that is our government!

Agreed and Amen! He's had this plan all along! This is what was meant by fundamentally transforming us, and those who rely on and depend on the govt, will be the first to fall apart. We've been struggling for a while now, but I know at 45, I will never see my SS – and I'm trying to make sure I plan for that, however, when the dollar is so devalued, it won't matter anyway. Excellent article Mychal. Obama is realizing the “dreams from his Father.” Now, there is a push to eliminate the debt ceiling forever. That means no budget will ever need to be put in front of Congress or the American people. Just spend. The current rate of Government spending and debt is unsustainable. Sooner or later the day of reckoning will come. There was a poll taken on one of the conservative websites before the election. One of the questions was, “Should medicare be reformed or cut?” This was the only question that was answered “no” on the survey. Your point is right on. Even conservatives who should know better, do not want their benefits cut in any way nor do they want them reformed. So, down the road we go.

I don't believe our leaders are knowingly on a mission to destroy this country, but here is some simple math with very big numbers: 16 trillion federal debt at an average interest rate of 2.5% equals 400 billion in interest alone each year. That's about half of the entire amount of federal tax paid in a year! That's $2962 per year in Federal taxes for each of the 135 million employed, just to pay the interest on the debt, forget about funding any programs! Just for fun, check your 1040 from last year and see if you even covered your portion of the interest (and remember, if you are a married working couple, it's $5924). Now, despite the ominous tone of this message, it is correctable if we all get on the right path and accept the cold hard fact that this is not sustainable. Blessings, Kerby :)

kerby suhre: excellent points…but not included are the hidden government numbers that some argue raising the debt to $87 trillion…
