A question that begs answering – now that the “legions” of darkness have reduced Christmas to a secular holiday – is how long before Easter suffers the same fate?

My grandmother used to say, “People only hate the truth for two reasons – because it’s true, or they think it’s true.” I don’t mind saying there’s a lot of wisdom cloaked in the words of my beloved sage.

Evidence the visceral hatred directed at Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.” Evidence the unprecedented, ill-informed and uneducated comments directed at same – many of which are by so-called scholars.

As I wrote in a previous column, the movie is a historically factual depiction of an actual occurrence. It is taken from the “Book” that has withstood time as a paradigm of truth. Yet the movie is offensive to many.

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore suffered consternation, ridicule and ultimately loss of his judgeship for daring to defend state law pursuant to the courthouse display of the Ten Commandments. Yet in California, the mayor and state attorney general are hailed as heroes for breaking the very law they have sworn and were elected to uphold.

Even if one denies the truth of their origin, one cannot deny our system of laws is based upon the Ten Commandments – as is every law on the planet. I find it incongruous that a person can be insulted by “Thou shalt not kill,” “Thou shalt not lie” and “Thou shalt not steal” while celebrating homosexual sex with a known HIV-AIDS-infected homosexual as an ultimate example of love and sexual gratification.

It is an anathema to me that young cadets in military academies such as West Point and the Citadel are strictly disallowed open prayer before meals. Christian students have had to wage court battles for the right to have Bible studies – while homosexuality is openly endorsed and encouraged as an acceptable lifestyle in the very same schools.

Schools exclusively for homosexual students are endorsed and then funded with taxpayer money, yet a student in Washington state had his scholarship rescinded because he planned to attend a Christian college.

Christmas is one of the most holy of Christian holidays. It matters little whether it is the precise birth-date of our Lord. The fact is that our Lord was born. And that is what causes such angst.

Children are disciplined in public schools for bringing candy canes to school or wishing Merry Christmas. But MTV’s holiday party of breasts and jiggley is acceptable classroom discourse.

Government workers are disciplined for saying “God bless you,” while special laws are enacted to permit cross-dressing by employees. People are ridiculed for their faith by the pompous and the arrogant whose mouthings are akin to a pissoir on an insufferably hot day.

We must now ask: Is Easter next on the hit list of the Christ haters? If wishing someone “Merry Christmas” is considered offensive, how much longer will “He is risen” be tolerated?

The deceitful suggestion that faith is personal and should not be displayed publicly should be an affront to every believer and person of reason alike. It is nothing short of yellow hatred that proliferates such hostility toward the “Truth.”

It stands to reason in my mind that it is not a matter of if, but a matter of how soon the haters act on their intentions. It is plainly obvious to me that the contempt for all things God centered “must needs be.” Evil like mold and mildew needs a certain climate – atmosphere if you will – in order to exist. Nor does evil approve of limits or restraint. It is precisely for these reasons that all things of God must be reduced to secularisms or eliminated. Because it is then and only then that man will be able to act upon his most baneful desires.

It happened when God was removed from schools, it happened when God was removed from the sanctity of life. It will happen if we permit the continued attacks on our holy days. While the historical “Truth” of Christmas and Easter cannot be changed, it won’t have to be if mankind ceases to remember it.
