Trump's Family: Two-Thumbs Up
During Donald Trump’s interviews, victory speeches, stump/rally speeches, etc., I have been observing his family, specifically his sons. Yesterday morning I also had the opportunity to watch a clip of his wife Melania being interviewed and I have reached a conclusion.
And let me say that if in fact Donald Trump goes on to win the White House, it will be a breath of fresh unpolluted air to have his wife as the First Lady. I know people will say ridiculously foolish things about Mrs. Trump, based upon Internet myths and outright lies. Yesterday I watched Mrs. Trump handle herself with a sophisticated ease, elegance, style, grace, and repose that sucked the oxygen out of the interviewers attempted smear job. It became clear very quickly to the interviewer that she had miscalculated Mrs. Trump.
It was an interview of a potential First Lady unlike any I have witnessed in a many, many election cycles. Strength, self-assurance and the ability to very politely, almost with a smile and yet with penetrating eye contact respond in a way that had the interviewer on her back foot moments after the interview started. Mrs. Trump was genuine and unpretentious unlike certain others we have had the misfortune of enduring.
Mrs. Trump speaks five languages fluently; she was successful in her own right before she met Mr. Trump. She comported herself with class. There were no jumping jacks, pushups, or forearm presses. She doesn’t have a drinking problem, and suffice it to say if they name a clinic after her, it will be because she funded it and not because she was the clinic’s best known patient.
During the interview she didn’t lie and she didn’t insult Tammy Wynette and stay-at-home mothers. She doesn’t have a history of defending racists, killers, and anarchists. She isn’t viewing the White House as safe zone from prosecution like a former First Lady and she hasn’t had legal problems that forced her to relinquish any licenses.
I know what it is to raise a child who has privileges and what it takes to keep their feet planted firmly on the ground. Studying Trump’s sons I see two young men who are educated, learned, and schooled in business, trained for success by working for it not just waiting for daddy to give it to them. It takes a strong father to raise children of privilege to have their feet on the ground, to appreciate the value of a dollar, and to understand that success comes from work not a trust fund.
Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, is a first class lady. She is a model of propriety and yet she is a strong, self-assured, uber-intelligent, woman who doesn’t find it necessary to derive her self-respect by pretending to shop at Target and/or feigning a southern drawl.
If Donald Trump goes on to win the White House I will go on record without reservation and say his children will not take lavish vacation trips to exotic Mexican locales with busloads of their friends at the taxpayers’ expense. His wife won’t jet set around the globe glutting vodka at taxpayers’ expense while telling Americans what they should eat. The Trump family won’t be accused of nor engage in criminal pursuits, Mrs. Trump will not have to lie and cover up for her husband’s lecherous escapades and there won’t be 19 year-old interns hiding in the inner office hallways.
It is also an absolute certainty that if Donald Trump is victorious that his wife will not say this is the first time she has been proud of America. And she will not advocate for the likes of anarchist gangs and criminals.
Donald Trump may be a lot of things in the minds of his detractors, but I know this, no father produces the family that he has by being a bad and/or indulgent parent. Children don’t love you because you are permissive and indulge them; that makes them disrespect you and feel entitled. They respect you because behind every kind word and act there is expectation and there is discipline.
Like I have said, people may not like Donald Trump for any number of reasons, but when you pull the curtain back, look deep, and pay attention, I am sure, if you are honest, you will see what I have observed.
