We Are One In The Body Of Christ — Sunday Thought For The Day

My digital business partner and I are a study in contrast. We are both at the top of the food chain when it comes to our specific skill sets. And as you can probably imagine that can make for some testy moments at those times, when our specific skill sets collide.

Such was the case recently, as he was trying to walk me through a particularly annoying format that I had never used before. After a period of struggle, I emailed him saying, there were only two ways things were going to work. He could try walking me through it again or he could do it himself. He walked me through it again and I was able to utilize the particular system for the first time.

It was a triumph for both of us; and it called to my mind the Apostle Paul in his first letter to the Corinthian Church when he stated: “For the body is not one member, but many.” (1 Corinthians 12:14 KJV) The Daily Rant (TDR) is a smooth functioning machine when it comes to the individuals who labor long hours sight unseen. Our collective contributions go virtually unnoticed until there is a problem. I am certain we could claw along making things work on a macular level without the help or assistance of one another. But God knew when he brought my digital partner and I together, we would be massively more successful working as one with distinctly different functions.

Such is the body of Christ, which the Apostle Paul personified as a human body. Our feet will get along just fine without a hand; likewise our arms will get along without a leg or a lung. As human beings, we can function quite well with several body parts missing; the question is why would we choose to do same?

It behooves us to remember, that as Christians, we all bring certain gifts to the body of Christ that are bestowed upon us by the Holy Spirit for the good of the church, i.e., the body of Christ and for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.

God the Father could have had one man or a stone advance His kingdom; but for purposes, which He alone knows, He open the door of Salvation through His Son to all mankind. And He willed it that we are one in the body of Christ. It therefore should make sense to us that if we are truly born again believers in Christ we are one together with Him, and that God is not a respecter of persons. In other words, He holds us all to the same standards of obedience.

Whether our spiritual gifts are great or seemingly small they are all equal in importance to the body of Christ. And it is of paramount importance for us to not just work together but it help make one another better. In so doing we strengthen the body of believers in Christ.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
