Choosing Candy Over Christ – Sunday Thought For The Day

I continue to be amazed that people buy elaborate Halloween costumes to parade their children from door to door with bags for candy. Parents walk up and down the streets from house to house with their children dressed as everything imaginable. They attended Halloween parties. Homes were clumsily decorated with various coffins, ghosts, ghouls, witches, devils and bats. But these same people will not take their children to Sunday School or church.

People took their children and lined the streets to watch a Halloween parade. But they wouldn’t consider taking their children to church.

I observe people out jogging Sunday mornings as we are on our way to church. But these same people haven’t got time to go church. People get up early on Sunday mornings to do yard work, play golf, go fishing, or to get ready for a sports game. But getting up for church is somehow inconvenient.

I’m pained by the number of people who have more important things to do than find a Christ centered, bible believing church and attend it; that includes those who tell me they don’t have to go to church, because they watch a church program on television.

I wonder what thought these people have given to the reality of eternity. It’s not just those who sillily waste time on Halloween or those who have time to do everything Sunday morning but go to church. It is also about those who profess to being Christians, but who do not have time to spend with God or His people.

I cannot stress strongly enough that we can be absolutely certain that eternity is real and it is a place in which time has no end. Where we spend eternity God has left to us. We can decide to spend eternity with Him by accepting Jesus Christ, His Son, as our Saviour or we can choose to spend eternity in hell, because we didn’t believe we needed a Saviour or when we were alive.

In reality we have only a short period of time to make a decision to accept Christ as our Saviour and live a Christian life, but we will have all eternity to rejoice that we did or gnash our teeth and wail that we did not.
