Answered Prayer – Sunday Thought For Today

In the February 10, 2019, “Sunday Thought For The Day,” I shared a prayer request. In fact, the title of the “Sunday Thought” was: “A Prayer Request.” Well, as an update to that devotion, today’s title can only be: “Prayer Answered.”

Many will remember that last weekend my son forwarded me a request for prayer for a young lady named “Katelyn” and her family. The family was allowing surgery that was needed to save her life — even though it was possible she would not survive the surgery, because the antibiotics that were intended to rid her body of the infection when her appendix burst, had after one month of trying, failed.

On February 13, my son received the update so many had been praying for. My son said: “I just found out that Katelyn had a complete surgical procedure where they didn’t have to open her up, but they were able to clean all scar tissue out of areas and allowed everything to heal and as of today she’s home. They believe she’s going to recover fully. [Everyone] should go back and read the previous email, [requesting prayer] and see how this one aligns with the original prognosis.”

The original email from my son included the surrender of Katelyn to God’s plan for her, offered in her mother’s prayer. God answered prayer and together, this family has been strengthened in a way that could only come through faith as they faced the death of their daughter.

Everyone who prayed for this miracle of healing should give thanks and praise to God for this answered prayer. However, I would be remiss, if I didn’t say, we should have given thanks and praise to God even had the answer to prayer not been what we asked.

When we can say “thank you” to God for answering our prayers according to His will and purpose, we can truly give thanks to Him for answering our prayers according to the desires of our hearts. Faith is not always receiving what we want, but rather, it is trusting God to give us what we need, and answering us according to His plan and purpose.
