Judas and Peter Walked With Christ – Sunday Thought For The Day

The following is Chapter 7, of my book: “I Feel The Presence of The Lord.”

During a recent Thursday evening bible study, the observation was made that Judas Iscariot walked side by side with the other disciples throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus. This said, dare we honestly think that Jesus didn’t know the secret that even Judas himself was unaware of at the time he was called by Jesus Himself?

Does anyone believe that Jesus did not know that Peter would deny Him three times, even as He told Peter He would make him a fisher of men? (Matthew 4:19 KJV)

Scripture, in numerous places throughout the Old and New Testaments makes clear that Jesus knew what the two disciples would do. Jesus Himself, also told both men as the hour of His crucifixion drew closer.

Judas was responsible for the “bag” (John 13:29 KJV), which was a position worthy of some merit. Peter at times could be impetuous.

What is my point, you ask? My point is that both men walked with Jesus and served in some capacity virtually every day of His earthly ministry. Both men ministered to those who flocked around the Lord. Both men sat under the personal instruction of Jesus. Both men witnessed the miracles that Jesus performed. It is a certainty that both men were outwardly obedient to the Lord’s instruction(s).

We read that Peter was emphatic in his belief that he would never deny the Lord. In Matthew 26:35 (KJV) we also read that: “Likewise also said all the disciples.”

However, there is a reason that the Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians to: “Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith: prove yourselves.” (2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV) Jeremiah said: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9 KJV)

It is important to follow these admonitions, because when our eyes close here on Earth and we awaken in eternity, we want to hear our Lord’s voice welcoming us home to be with Him. We do not want to deceive ourselves into believing that being churchgoers and/or having what we define as Christian values makes us a Christian.
