A Prayer by Robert Socha

The Apostle Paul exhorted the Thessalonian Church to pray continually and, in everything, give thanks, and he exhorted Timothy to pray for those in authority. Jesus said that whatever we ask the Father in His name, He would do it so our joy may be full. James cautioned us to watch how we pray to ensure we are not seeking our own pleasure. Our time on this beautiful planet is but a breath and should be used expediently. With this in mind, I offer the following prayer:
Father, I come to you today in the matchless name of your Son, Jesus, to ask for a spirit of wisdom and revelation to guide us through these tumultuous times. I lift the Trump Administration and all his officers, appointees, counselors, and trusted family and friends to operate with Truth and Justice as their constant companion. I pray their decisions will continue to be strong and courageous and make tremendous inroads to repair the sovereignty of national borders, to reduce the bloated agencies whose astronomical budgets have created an unelected and unaccountable bureaucracy that has not had to answer to the people for their usurpation of the rights and power that belong to us, and to continue to rip the Band-Aids of aid and funding to international agencies whose outlay of funds was not only an unsustainable financial burden on the taxpayers in these United States but more often than not are squandered and misappropriated to enrich foreign powers instead of relieving their people’s suffering. May the initial shock of reducing or eliminating the well-intentioned but misguided funding of foreign entities be met not with resistance and economic warfare but be an exhortation for each arm of global hegemony to become accountable to its people and sustained by its budget without relying on the United States taxpayer for economic support. May these courageous actions also filter through the legislative powers that control both state and federal Congress to reduce reliance on public funds and may that reduction give pause to local governing bodies enabling them to reduce the tax burden on their constituents ushering in an economic revival.
Father, I pray for the people whose hearts have been darkened by sin and shame and whose god is gluttony of hedonism and entertainment, food and wine, money and power, that as the Lord did for Saul when He appeared to him on the road to Damascus and changed his name to Paul, you would open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and the power of Satan to God, that they would receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those sanctified (cleansed) by faith in Jesus.
Finally, Father, today I pray for those who call upon the Name of the Lord to be unashamed, to choose today who they will serve and echo the cry of Joshua when he declared that he and his household would serve the Lord! I pray for boldness, strength, and courage to be the banner of love that covers and empowers Believers to be unashamed and speak with the power of faith and conviction so that the mighty works accomplished through the name of Jesus would once again manifest in a glorious awakening and returning to the Faith of our Fathers who called upon the name of the Lord for salvation to both Jew and Gentile.
I close this time with you Father, echoing the prayers of these United States forefathers when the Reverend Jacob Duche’ prayed the following in an opening act of Congress on September 7, 1774, after reading Psalm 35 which we would do well to emulate in prayer as well:
“Be Thou present, O God of Wisdom, and direct the counsel of this Honorable Assembly; enable them to settle all things on the best and surest foundations; that the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that Order, Harmony and Peace may be effectually restored, and that Truth and Justice, Religion and Piety, prevail and flourish among the people …
Preserve the health of their bodies, and the vigor of their minds, shower down on them, and the millions they here represent, such temporal Blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world, and crown them with everlasting Glory in the world to come.
All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Saviour, Amen.”
