The “Fear not” statements of Jesus; so, what’s that mean? by “Brother Bill”

Jesus said: I’m The Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6) The “Fear not” statements of Jesus; so, what’s that mean?
Let’s take this in two parts:
1.“The Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6)
2.The “Fear not” statements of Jesus
I’ll give you the complete NKJV verses, explain the meaning of the words (“way,” “truth,” “life”), and show how the “fear nots” strengthen us.
1. The Way, the Truth, and the Life
John 14:6 (NKJV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Definition:
• The Way → Jesus is the only path to God. He is not “a way,” but the way—exclusive, direct, and relational. He shows us how to live, and by His death and resurrection, He opened the road to the Father.
• The Truth → Jesus is the embodiment of reality as God defines it. He is the fulfillment of God’s promises, the revelation of the Father, and the One who cannot lie (John 1:14; Titus 1:2).
• The Life → Jesus is the source of eternal and abundant life. Without Him, we are spiritually dead; in Him, we live forever (John 11:25; John 10:10).
Why it helps us:
Because it means salvation, direction, and eternal security are not left to guesswork, religion, or human striving. We don’t have to fear being lost—Jesus Himself guarantees the way to the Father.
2. “Fear Not” Statements of Jesus
Here are several direct “fear not” or “do not be afraid” sayings of Jesus in the NKJV:
• Matthew 10:28 (NKJV)
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
• Matthew 10:31 (NKJV)
“Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
• Luke 12:32 (NKJV)
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
• Matthew 14:27 (NKJV)
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
• John 14:27 (NKJV)
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
• John 16:33 (NKJV)
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
How “Fear Not” Helps Us:
• Replaces fear with trust: Fear shifts our eyes to danger, but Jesus shifts them to God’s care and control.
• Gives perspective: Even death is not ultimate—He is the resurrection and the life.
• Offers peace: The world shakes, but His peace is unshakable.
• Reassures identity: We are known, valued, and protected by God.
Summary:
• Way = Only path to the Father.
• Truth = God’s reality revealed in Christ.
• Life = Eternal and abundant life in Him.
• Fear not = His presence, power, and promises are greater than our trials. That’s a very deep and important insight. You’re pointing to the mystery of Jesus: fully God, yet fully man (Philippians 2:5-8).
The Gospels show that Jesus didn’t “play the God card” (use His divine nature for His own advantage), but instead lived in complete dependence on the Father through the Holy Spirit. This demonstrates how we too can live in obedience when filled with the Spirit.
1. Jesus Emptied Himself of Privilege
Philippians 2:5-8 (NKJV)
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
➡ Jesus did not grasp at divine privilege, but humbled Himself, choosing to live as man in submission to the Father.
2. Baptized with the Spirit Before Ministry
Luke 3:21-22 (NKJV)
When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
➡ Jesus’ public ministry begins not by using His divine nature, but by being anointed with the Holy Spirit.
3. Led and Empowered by the Spirit
Luke 4:1 (NKJV)
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.
Luke 4:14 (NKJV)
Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.
➡ His ministry, teaching, and miracles flowed out of the Spirit’s power, not self-exertion of His deity.
4. Jesus Claimed Dependence on the Father
John 5:19 (NKJV)
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”
John 8:28-29 (NKJV)
“When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”
➡ Jesus models perfect obedience: listening, watching, and doing only what the Father wills.
5. Why This Helps Us
• Jesus showed the pattern of Spirit-filled obedience for all who follow Him.
• He lived as we must live: submitted to the Father, empowered by the Spirit.
• His victory proves that man, walking in the Spirit, can overcome sin and fear.
Romans 8:11 (NKJV)
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
This means: The same Spirit who empowered Jesus now empowers us.
Summary:
• Jesus didn’t use His divine advantage (“God card”).
• He was baptized and filled with the Spirit, led and empowered by the Spirit.
• He lived in obedience to the Father as a man, showing us the way.
• Now, through the Holy Spirit, we can walk as He walked.
Soooo: Jesus is the way to overcome the world through obedience to the father and that gives us both the truth and the life, sooo we need not fear in him. So we too can obey and take the same path Jesus did.Now that’s pretty cool! What a savour and lord, huh?
