A Christmas Prayer To Our Friends
Late Friday night or early Saturday morning (depending on one’s idea of time), I was watching a re-run of a show about a doctor named “House.” About midway through the show this Dr. House person made a “startling discovery.” A young woman who had pledged with her boyfriend that they would not have physical relations until they were married turned out to be pregnant. At first, House accused the young woman of being unfaithful. But then came his “startling discovery.” It seemed that there was this incredibly rare occurrence whereby a woman’s body inexplicably goes through some sort of “whatever,” and she becomes pregnant without having had sexual intercourse. And in this particular young woman’s case, not only had she not cheated on her boyfriend, but also she was still a virgin. Which led this Dr. House character to note that it was only the second time in history that this had occurred.
In my opinion, this was a blatant attempt to undermine the Virgin birth of Jesus Christ our Lord by introducing a seemingly plausible element of dialogue that can lead to the unassuming and weak in faith to question the validity of scripture and the Virgin birth of our Lord.
This is how the enemy of our faith works. There is a reason that the Apostle Peter wrote, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) We are well familiar with the subtleties satan craftily used to lead Eve to disobey God’s command. The scripture says, “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.” (Genesis 3:1-6)
I smiled as I read the first chapter of the Book of Matthew this morning (Matthew 18-25), confident beyond any question that there was, is, and always forever will only be one Virgin birth and that is the birth of our Lord Christ Jesus.
As we celebrate the pageantry and traditions of the Christmas holiday season, let us bear in mind that there is only “One” reason for Christmas. And it is to celebrate the fulfillment of God’s chain of references to the promise of a Savior (Genesis 3:15). Without Christ there is no reason for Christmas.
As you gather with your families and friends at this very special time, remember that Christ was and is the “Greatest Gift” we could ever receive. Let us all make time in our busy schedules to not be so busy that we omit He who is “The Reason” for our celebrations.
From all of us here at TDR (The Daily Rant) We would like you to know how thankful we are for that “Wondrous Gift of Life” and the ability to share it with all of you. We are blessed to call you our friends. I love you all. I pray you and yours safe traveling mercies, and a blessed and spirit-filled Merry Christmas.
