Chick-Fil-A Proves We Forget The Past At Our Peril
The Spanish philosopher George Santayana is credited with saying: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This is why we cannot now accept the backtracking Chick-Fil-A is attempting to put over on us, regarding their craven betrayal of the values they have led Christians and conservatives to believe they unequivocally held. Specific to same, this is not the first time the restaurant chain has betrayed those who have trusted them.
Writing for Western Journalism, Erin Coates reported: “Chick-fil-A has denied that it is appeasing its critics with its new philanthropic structure revealed on Monday.” (Chick-fil-A Responds to Backlash Over Salvation Army Breakup with Statement on New ‘Giving Approach’; 11/19/2019)
The BBC News was much more forthright in their reporting stating: “US fast-food chain Chick-fil-A has changed its charitable giving policies, which had been criticized by LGBT activists. … The restaurant company has faced protests over its opposition to same-sex marriage, including donations to campaign groups. … It said its giving would now focus on education, homelessness and hunger. … The firm did not explain the decision, except to say it wanted to offer “more clarity” about its donations.” (Chick-Fil-A Drops Charities After LGBT Protests; 11/19/2019)
Erin Coates also reported that the Chick-Fil-A Foundation claimed: “Our goal is to donate to the most effective organizations in the areas of education, homelessness and hunger. No organization will be excluded from future consideration — faith-based or non-faith based.”
According to an exclusive report from Bisnow, under the new giving plan, the company will no longer be donating to organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Paul Anderson Youth Home — all Christian organizations that hold to the biblical view of marriage.
This should come as no surprise to those who remember Dan Cathy, the restaurant chairman, president and CEO in July 2012, said he: “backed the biblical definition of family.” The firestorm of protest and calls for boycotts of the restaurant chain led millions of people to show their support for the biblical family construct by holding what was coined “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.” Based on his now obviously fallacious position, our support gave Cathy’s restaurant chain the greatest single day of business in it’s history.
Less than one week later, Cathy reversed his supposedly biblical view of family and claimed that he had spoken with a homosexual advocate who convinced him, that holding to a strict biblical interpretation of family was wrong. That love between two people wasn’t predicated upon antiquated and prejudicial so-called biblical standards.
Now the restaurant chain has capitulated even further to godlessness by cutting support to the very groups that have given them hundreds of thousands of loyal patrons. The eatery wants to establish a major presence in foreign countries and is willing to betray us to accomplish same – they betrayed God immediately after Cathy had pledged support to biblical principles.
On March 28, 2014, I reminded you of the treachery Chick-Fil-A and others had perpetrated upon their loyal supporters and followers. I am re-sharing that pledge I made to you. At that time I warned about the so-called Republican leadership as well. My words were proven true with the treachery those I mentioned, as they today are working behind the scenes to sabotage President Trump.
I have been intractable in honoring my pledge to you then, and I will remain so as long as the Lord gives me breath.
Following is my pledge to you reposted from 2014:
I do not address the following to gloat or toot my own horn as being better than someone else. But I think it is important that I take the time to address what is becoming an increasingly bad pattern.
Earlier this week I was made aware that yet another long-time defender of our faith and historic traditions has taken steps to embrace homosexuality within the framework of same-sex marriages. Regardless of the rationale behind this ministry giant, the U.S. component of World Vision, either wittingly or unwittingly opened the door to subject all true Christian ministries to the edicts of the anti-Christian activists. They have announced they are abandoning the teachings of the Bible to support homosexual marriage.
Then there came word that Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick-Fil-A, has announced that it was a “mistake” for him to speak out in favor of traditional marriage and to that end he and his business are openly embracing homosexual marriage. It is also reported that his company has dramatically cut donations to groups opposing same-sex marriage and Christian pro-family groups.
It is apparent that Cathy and Chick-Fil-A forget that hundreds of thousands of us, if not well over a million Americans turned out to support him when he was attacked for exercising his First Amendment right to speak in favor of tradition marriage. Our support gave his restaurants the single greatest day of business in the history of the corporation.
The Republican Party that we believed was worthy of our support has made it clear they are no longer interested in true conservatism. Karl Rove, Reince Priebus, and the so-called leadership of the Republican Party have been emphatic in making it known they want the Party to shift away from Constitutional Conservatism to become a Party of left-leaning moderates. A Party which embraces abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, Common-Core, obamacare, and more government intrusion — to mention but a few. Rove and the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, have made it clear they will, attempt to crush any true conservative who runs for congressional office.
Here is my pledge to you. The Daily Rant (TDR) will never change or scale back our conservative bona fides. I am an unapologetic Christian Constitutional Conservative, and I will never retreat from that nor will I allow that position to be compromised. That is why I refuse to take money from PACS and/or political operatives. I will not spout Republican talking points nor have the opinions and information disseminated via TDR shaped by their money.
I feel outrage for the people who trusted these organizations enough to send donations and who supported the positions they told them to support. I view the actions of these groups and the Republican Party as an epic betrayal of the people who trusted them, and, specific to the ministries — I view their actions as a betrayal of the God they claim to serve.
Thank you for your trust in TDR. Thank you for your prayers, your support, your encouragement, and your readership. And be assured that I/we will never consciously betray that trust. It is my pledge to you that TDR will always be the voice of and for true Christian Constitutional Conservatism.
