Does Accountability Mean We Can’t Be Forgiven? – Sunday Thought For The Day

The world, and specifically America has a selective view of our system of jurisprudence.  It is a view that I will, Lord willing, address in more specific detail in next week’s The Daily Rant (TDR).  However, for the purpose of today’s Sunday Thought, here is a snippet of what I think.

There’s nothing redeemable about the heinous acts Lindsay Clancy did to her family and herself.  The definitions of “not in one’s right mind” (legal and otherwise) notwithstanding.  However…

I contend the health system didn’t fail her any more than the transportation industry would have failed me, if after I carjacked a luxury vehicle because my inexpensive domestic compact vehicle stranded me, I killed the owner of the carjacked luxury vehicle because it wasn’t a manual transmission.

I don’t for an instant doubt she heard a voice in the moment telling her to commit the murders and then try to kill herself.

But, I do believe if she were/is able to truly repent and seek the forgiveness of the Lord, she could be saved and become one of many who have committed terrible premeditated crimes, who sought forgiveness and were used mightily by the Lord, e.g., King David, David Berkowitz, Nicky Cruz, and Saul of Tarsus to mention but a very few.

However, I also believe there is such a thing as divine accountability that supersedes the accountability of man.

Yet, I’m also aware that Satan and his minions will use every opportunity to attempt to undermine God by dividing and fomenting hatred and unforgiveness.

I believe without question or hesitation that what Lindsay Clancy did is beyond reprehensible.  I also believe she is accountable for her actions, but I will never discount God’s willingness to forgive.  From the Cross, our Lord and Savior said, “Father forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34 KJV)

What goes unaddressed from God’s biblical perspective, is the circus Satan has turned this tragic criminal act into.  As I said to my wife Friday evening, hordes of people miss the fact that they’re being manipulated per what to think and express.  With few exceptions the media doesn’t care about this tragedy as they pretend.  This horrific act has handed them a massive moneymaking opportunity.  They’re able to charge more for advertising, especially during prime viewing program h0urs, because of the interest created surrounding this horror.

So-called experts are given greater exposure.  Politicians are able to pontificate and feign interest as they prostitute the crime for personal political gain.  It’s an opportunity for certain agenda driven groups to extort the horror for financial gain and social brinkmanship.

We must not lose sight of the darkness of what Clancy did; but with that being said, that darkness doesn’t give us permission to abandon the biblical tenets of our faith.  I’m not advocating for criminal leniency because said is not for me to say as such.  The position I’m taking is, Lindsay Clancy is accountable for her actions.  Being a mother can be stressful, but that isn’t license to commit such an act.

I’m saying that we must look at this through biblical eyes if we’re truly born-again children of God.  I believe in accountability, but I’m aware that Christ Jesus paid the price for my godless wretchedness.  We must be careful not to lose sight of that fact.  To not do same is, to give opportunity to the enemy of our souls.

In brief, I condemn what she did, but I would pray that just as women have repented over having their babies murdered by abortion, if possible, she will repent of the horrific acts she committed.  I say that not as an act of leniency, but believing God’s word that the only sin that cannot be forgiven is “blaspheming the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 12:31-32 KJV)
