I'm not convinced
Today’s rant is short by comparison. Yesterday I watched the Sharon Bialek, press conference and I watched her interview with Martha MacCallum this morning. I know that this will sound strange coming from me, but in a strange and unfathomable way, in a way I wish she was believable. What, how can that be, you ask? Let me briefly explain.
If it were true I could say, the man I know and respect has feet of clay. I could say this is a sad turn of events, and I could get on with things. But that isn’t the case. And quite frankly, I need a higher level of fact than this woman has offered, for me to believe her and/or to throw Herman to the curb.
I’ve been around politics a long time, and I know how the game is played. And this one is being played as poorly as any I’ve ever seen. How many more women will be paraded out? Where have they been all of these years? It’s true, some may have had gag orders, but what about all of the others who are rumored to be out there?
The one thing I know about politics and life in the public domain, is that if a person has a history of inappropriate and questionable behavior, the rumors of same (even if very quietly) always abound. Why were there no rumors of Herman being a serial groper? How is it that a man who has been in the national spotlight for many years, a man who has run for public office before, and only now these women feel compelled to come forward to speak out? And even more curious, to speak out altruistically, not for personal gain.
Where is their anger? I know women who have been assaulted and/or harassed, without saying more per them – ask yourself this – if a man had attempted to sexually harass and/or sexually molest you, would you behave like Bialek? And answer me this – one month before your news conference – would you not only go out of your way to get backstage to see the perp, but would you be hugging, flirting, squeezing his hand, whispering in his ear, and making a public display of warmth and friendship with the man who you now claim tried to sexually assault, if not outright rape you?
I can tell you this, there is no way that if my sister, wife, family member, or girlfriend were ever violated it would take me nearly 20 years and the perpetrator running for president to come forward. Maybe others are different.
