McCain and Graham Would Sell Their Mothers For Political Gain
Earlier this month someone was telling me how wonderful Lindsey Graham is. My response was that he is the worst of Senators right down there with John McCain and a host of others who would sell out their mother for political gain and a favorable write-up in liberal news rags.
My response was simply matter-of-fact. It had nothing to do with prescience, but it could seem that way because just a few short days later Graham and McCain were busy selling out the American people by trashing Rand Paul’s filibustering of John Brennan as CIA Director.
That McCain and Graham saw fit to publicly malign and mock Rand Paul is further evidence, as if more were needed, of why the so-called Republican Party is swirling around in the toilet bowl on its way to the political sewers.
Let me be very clear, I am not a fan of Rand Paul, but, fan or not, his objections to Brennan should have been supported by all of the Senate Republicans, especially those claiming conservative bona fides.
That McCain and Graham saw fit to publicly malign and mock Rand Paul is further evidence, as if more were needed, of why the so-called Republican Party is swirling around in the toilet bowl on its way to the political sewers.
McCain has been an opportunist and a Benedict Arnold to conservative issues from the moment he entered politics. Saturday afternoon I spoke with a former military officer who was familiar with the truth of what has become legend pursuant to McCain being a POW. Suffice it to say, there are many POWs who do not recognize McCain as a war hero, in fact, they had extremely harsh names for him including being a traitor and being responsible for other POWs suffering cruelly.
McCain had literally just begun his political career when he became involved in what is known as The Keating Five. The Keating Five are five Senators who were accused of corruption in attempting to intervene on behalf of Charles Keating, Jr. and his Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was being investigated after many investors lost their life savings and over 23,000 bondholders were believed to have been defrauded out of more than $3 billion when the savings and loan collapsed. Keating reportedly made nearly $1.5 million in campaign donations to five senators including McCain, and the charges and investigation went away.
While three of the five senators were found to have interfered with the investigation into Keating, McCain managed to weasel out with less than a slap on his wrist. Such has been the path of McCain’s political career. He always finds a way to wiggle out of whatever mess he is involved in, and usually with a significant chunk of someone’s money in his pocket.
Writing for the November 29, 1989 Phoenixnewtimes.com, Tom Fitzpatrick wrote an article titled “McCain: The Most Reprehensible of the Keating Five.” Fitzpatrick writing for McCain’s hometown newspaper had harsh words for McCain:
You’re John McCain, a fallen hero who wanted to become president so desperately that you sold yourself to Charles Keating, the wealthy con man who bears such an incredible resemblance to The Joker.
Obviously, Keating thought you could make it to the White House, too.
He poured $112,000 into your political campaigns [which was a massive amount of money in 1989]. He became your friend. He threw fund raisers in your honor. He even made a sweet shopping-center investment deal for your wife, Cindy. Your father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was cut in on the deal, too.
Nothing was too good for you. Why not? Keating saw you as a prime investment that would pay off in the future.
So he flew you and your family around the country in his private jets. Time after time, he put you up for serene, private vacations at his vast, palatial spa in the Bahamas. All of this was so grand. You were protected from what Thomas Hardy refers to as ‘the maddening crowd.’ It was almost as though you were already staying at a presidential retreat.
Since Keating’s collapse, you find yourself doing obscene things to save yourself from the Senate Ethics Committee’s investigation. As a matter of course, you engage in backbiting behavior that will turn you into an outcast in the Senate if you do survive. (Read Fitzpatrick’s entire article:http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1989-11-29/news/mccain-the-most-reprehensible-of-the-keating-five/)
Well, obviously McCain did survive, and he survived because McCain embarked on a mission to rat out the others involved in the Keating Five. And as Fitzpatrick noted when the media didn’t act fast enough to report the betrayals of his criminal counterparts McCain took it upon himself to shake things up so that they would report. This was not new behavior for McCain it is the same treachery McCain committed when a POW, as the military officer and Vietnam veteran I spoke with Saturday past told me.
McCain remains bitter to this day over the Keating incident. In his mind, he wasn’t treated fairly. And thus he has become a thorn in the side of practically every conservative initiative in the Senate. He has been responsible for Constitutionally minded judges not getting through the confirmation process and he, as he has now, helped those such as Brennan get positions they have no business holding.
One more thing about McCain and the Keating Five. The four others involved were Dennis DeConcini, AZ,; Alan Cranston, CA; John Glenn, OH; and Donald Riegle, MI. What did his four criminal counterparts all have in common? They were all Democrats.
That’s right. McCain was elected as a Republican, and the first thing he did as Senator was become involved in corruption with diabolically corrupt Democrats.
And nothing has changed for McCain. The person he wanted as a running mate against Obama was Joe Lieberman the liberal Democrat turned Independent who still caucuses with Democrats. Think about that. McCain was running for the presidency as a Republican, but he wanted a Democrat running mate. And let’s not forget how he smiled broadly as his trashy daughter made appearances on left-wing news programs savaging Sarah Palin.
The only thing McCain can be counted on to do consistently is obstruct conservative legislation. He graduated at the bottom of his class from the Naval Academy (894th out of 899), and he has made a career of being at the bottom of the Senate.
Still he has been rewarded by low-info voters who refuse to take their blinders off. Until so-called conservatives wake up, wise up, and stop voting for traitorous dullards like McCain because they’re told their vote will keep the Obama types out of office — the McCain types are all we’ll have.
