Nothing's Changed
I got up this morning and the world was still here. I’m at my desk with glass of water and cigar off to one side just like the majority of days before. I’m relishing the beautiful Florida sky and the slightly cool (for us) breeze as I’ve enjoyed each morning since it became my adopted home. And like every morning before this one, I’ve awakened, showered and dressed, did my devotions, and sat down to work with the same thoughts and understanding in mind.
Said thoughts being that we must find a way to prevent Obamacare from being fully instituted and that America must move beyond race-based assignations. The results of last night do not change that. Even if Romney had done the impossible and won — when I awakened this morning my thoughts and focus would have been no different.
I would have awakened still very much aware that the GOP hierarchy was no more our friend than Obama. I would have still awakened fully cognizant that John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, John McCain, et al, were two-faced and working diligently to ensure they get what they want at our expense. I would have still awakened with the understanding that it was going to be even more difficult to succeed at real conservative causes and reduce the size of government, because Republican voters would be filled with a euphoria that would blind them to what it really will take to move this country in a right direction.
While I awakened this morning aware that many would be absolutely crushed and in deep despair pursuant to the outcome of the race — I also awakened with the same confidence that my son and I shared as we spoke last night — and that is that God is in control. I placed my faith in Him when I was saved, I’ve trusted Him in the darkest hours of my life, and I will never succumb to placing my faith in man.
Nothing has changed for me in the past few hours between my going to bed and my getting up. I view the battle as the same. I also understand that simply exchanging the “ass” for a “pachyderm” is not going to resolve the real issues.
I know the arguments many will counter with, but I also know from my study of history that David did not write the 23rd Psalm at a time when everything in his life was coming up cherries. George Washington did not just ride up to Pennsylvania, relax a few days in Valley Forge, and then paddle across the Delaware and declare victory.
Nor heroic military did not just cruise up to the beach at Normandy — pitch their tents and declare victory. Every major victory has only come after staggering defeat and disappointment. Just consider Winston Churchill.
I reiterate, had Romney won nothing that is important would have changed. As pleased as I initially was with the election of Bush in 2000, I very quickly came to realize that despite what I wanted to believe — namely that he was being Reaganesque when he spoke of compassionate conservatism — in reality code-speak for bigger government, increased spending, and a commitment to amnesty for illegal aliens.
As I said to those with whom I spoke last night, “keep in mind that Mr. Nixon won a second term.” It was also said of Mr. Nixon that “he was clever, but the problem with clever people is they don’t know when to stop being clever.” Which parallels Obama perfectly.
Obama’s winning a second term doesn’t mean he will be tempered. It doesn’t mean he will suddenly move to the center or become more personable. It means he will become even more drunk with his image in the mirror. And it means he will go even further outside the permissible rule of law. It means that like Mr. Nixon, he will seek retribution against his perceived and/or real enemies.
Obama is spiteful, vindictive, pernicious, and his narcissism has brought him to the brink of emotional instability. That is a dangerous alchemy for a potentate with a messianic complex.
Fast and Furious is still out there and believe me, someone knows the truth about how close it is to Obama. Benghazi is still out there and believe me someone knows the truth about what really happened. The rewarding of failing companies with taxpayer billions is still out there and someone knows the truth about it. And those are but three of the things that will haunt Obama regardless of his arrogant gestures.
Everything we fought against yesterday, we fight against today. Today as yesterday I have placed my faith in Him who saved my soul from eternal damnation. And I am anchored to 1 Corinthians 15:58; 16:13.
We don’t have time to wallow in despair and accuse George Soros of stealing the election. We must stay organized and committed to the understanding that victory is within our grasp.
