Our Father In Heaven – Sunday Thought For The Day

The following is an excerpt from my devotional book titled: “Alone With Jesus.”

How often I have prayed the following from Matthew 6:9-13:
Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
They kingdom come, they will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our [trespasses], as we forgive we forgive [those who trespass against us].
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

One of the things within this prayer that I have come to embrace very tightly are the words: “They will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” They mean so much to me because I know that God’s will is perfect and is always centered upon what is best for us as the children of God.

If God’s will for us as His children is perfect in all ways, and it is, then why would I not want His will to be done here on earth?

Also why would I not want God to provide me with my daily bread? And to know He has forgiven me as I have forgiven those who may have wronged me, how wonderful to know I am free of the burden of hate and ill will? Knowing that by grace through faith in Christ Jesus I am delivered from the evil one, what greater comfort can there be?

I pray to be the recipient of His will on earth as it is in heaven, He sustains me with my daily bread and when I pass from this life into eternity I will spend it with Him. It can be no better than that.

The Lord’s Prayer is a simple prayer but contained therein is prayer for everything I could need or want.
