Political Parties and Philosophies Cannot Save Us by Robert Socha
I know that political parties are human institutions repeatedly failing their stated mission because men are apt to be corrupted by power. On the other hand, Church is supposed to be led by men who have submitted themselves, spirit, soul, and body to Christ. Unfortunately, many men who achieve “success” in building a church are wooed and deceived by its power and prestige. Such accomplishment fosters preaching a gospel that accommodates the flesh, which is no gospel.
A terrible conviction arose as I revisited the seven churches mentioned in the first three chapters of the Revelation of John. These chapters provide encouragement and a stark warning that many who claim to be Christians may have their names blotted from the Book of Life unless there is a deep and sincere repentance from dead works.
We in the West have been spoiled by these last 80 years because the engine of prosperity provided a world where there is no lack, no want of the basic necessities for life. Of course, there are always exceptions, but I digress. In this perpetual comfort, we have looked to man-made institutions thinking they are the key to freedom. We feverishly work in vain to keep the vestiges of liberty alive politically. But, unfortunately, the governments we have created will continue to devolve in an anarchist spiral toward fulfilling scripture.
Political parties and philosophies do not save us—men who say wonderful things that have the appearance of godliness are not the arbiters of it. So let us be introspective as we move into the New Year and ask ourselves if we have fallen prey to the list of discrepancies the Lord had against those churches in Revelation.
“Search me, o God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Psalm 139:23-24
The Lord commanded the churches in Revelation to Repent lest something terrible be their payment and to hold fast to the Faith they had from the beginning.
I desired to see the United States restored to her initial grandeur because I believe she enabled the most significant evangelism the world has ever witnessed. I hoped she would continue to be the beacon Reagan poetically described. Now my thoughts are focused, once again, on knowing Him and the Power of His resurrection because if we truly surrender all, count the cost, and Believe, we will see the greatest harvest of souls the Church has ever known! The Kingdom of God will advance because the world will see a deep, sincere, and impenetrable faith in the face of severe persecution.
Return to your first love.
I cry out with a desperate, piercing cry, “Lord, I believe; help [me overcome] my unbelief” Mark 9:24 (AMP), and am reminded, “God is still doing his work when it seems like the heretics are having all the success,” W. Robert Godfrey.
To the one who does not have faith, seek the Lord for He will be found if you seek Him with all of your heart (Jeremiah 29:12-14). To the one who overcomes and endures in Faith to the end, may God Himself strengthen, encourage, and endue you with power from on high.
