Republicans No Longer The Party of Reagan

Republicans love to invoke references to Ronald Reagan, who was the last truly great American president. They self-assignate as Reagan Republicans, and they love to pose before cameras and laud themselves as being in the tradition of President Reagan. They remind me of the atheists who argue there is no God but use His name as a vulgar pejorative. While most so-called conservative Republicans effortlessly assign to themselves the moniker of Reagan Republican few have done it more frequently and to greater shame than John Boehner. Karl Rove is yet another from whose lips references to President Reagan freely flow (when it suits his interest).

The problem is that, in the zeitgeist of today’s so-called Republican leadership, Ronald Reagan would be as great an effluvium as former presidential candidate Herman Cain. Many keen political minds, this essayist included, categorically believe Rove was responsible for fallacious accusations that suddenly sprang forth when Mr. Cain began to surge ahead in the 2012 Republican primaries, and those accusations just as suddenly disappeared as soon as he ceased to seek the presidential nomination.

[adsanity id=8405 align=alignleft /]Yes sir, Rove, Boehner, et al. show no reluctance to use President Reagan’s name. It’s President Reagan’s policies and incomparable love for God and the people of America, and indefatigable dedication to same that the so-called Republican leadership falls far short on today.

Ronald Reagan believed in smaller government, lower taxes, and less spending; and interestingly enough those are the very same things Tea Party people believe in. Under President Reagan, America had a leader the nation was proud of and a leadership that comported itself in the best interest of We the People. The Republican leadership of today is precisely the opposite.

Under the Republican leadership today, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) blacklisted the conservative political firm Jamestown Associates as payback for the firm’s support of We the People. We the People are fed up with the feckless, do-nothing, self-serving Republican incumbents. And Jamestown Associates dared to contract with the conservative group who actually believe elected officials should listen to the will of the people; especially if they claim to be conservative Republicans.

Under the Republican leadership of Rove, Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, John Cornyn, Reince Priebus et al., the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the Republican National Committee (RNC), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (because of the influence wielded by the aforementioned) all blacklisted the company for daring to contract with those who can more truthfully label themselves as conservatives such as the Senate Conservatives Fund. Jamestown Associates also contracted with undesirables such as New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

Under the so-called Republican leadership of today, Karl Rove said a Tea Party candidate he disagreed with should be murdered. Rove and the RNC had to backtrack from their publicly stated intentions to not give campaign money to Tea Party candidates who unseated uber-liberal Republicans like Mike Castle of Delaware. Castle made the late Republican turncoat Arlen Specter look like a moderate.

Under today’s so-called Republican leadership, we read headlines like that from WND.com founder and publisher Joseph Farah which alerts us to “The GOP Establishment’s War On Tea Party.” Rush Limbaugh rightly said the GOP would rather lose than give the Tea Party credit for a victory. For months, the taunts and antagonisms directed at Tea Party groups and their candidates were legion, but as I and others have stepped up our defense of the will of We the People – and on the heels of a recent secret meeting held in Washington, D.C. and attended by top Republicans – the public attacks against We the People by the Republican establishment have quieted down somewhat. But do not be fooled into believing they have seen the error of their ways.

Ronald Reagan took office as President of the United States with a clear vision pursuant to how to enlarge the greatness of America by reestablishing the resolve of We the People. The vision Rove, McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, McCain, Cornyn et al. have for America is to entrench themselves in the pantheons of power and privilege for life and to surround themselves with those who are like minded.

Rove, Priebus, McConnell, and the GOP hierarchy are engaging in pure and unambiguous totalitarianism as they publicly proclaim their intent to crush the will of We the People. As I wrote in my Daily Rant titled, “Keep Tea Party A Movement of The People” ( http:newdailyrant.wpengine.com/; 4/4/14), the Tea Party as a movement of We the People was shown to be an uncontrollable force for the restoration of the very things President Reagan, in fact, stood for.

Jon Stewart, someone who probably finds it no easy task to remember his zip code even when he is in control of his faculties, tried to insult We the People by claiming that today’s Republican Party (Read: Tea Party people) would label Ronald Reagan a Hollywood liberal. Such a foolish, patently untrue statement presented as an attempt to garner laughter explains Stewart’s abysmal ratings.

As I said, it is Tea Party people who embrace the very things President Reagan believed in. It is the Rove Republicans and GOP establishment who are out of step.

We must not be swayed or dismayed. We must stay the course, and we must cease to reward Republicans who give lip service to President Reagan but govern like Obama. We must stand firm, understanding that we can reclaim the Party of Lincoln and Reagan by chipping away and by refusing to allow Rove et al. to bully us. We shouldn’t support or vote for GOP establishment candidates and we will still win. It is difficult for the GOP establishment candidates to win without our help and even for those who are able to squeak out a win, in the final analysis it is a pyrrhic victory without our support.
