Why did Messiah have to come twice? by “Brother Bill”
Because we weren’t ready without him once in mercy was for atonement, and the second is judgment for consummation.
He came first to save, He returns to reign.
Visit #1 — The Lamb
To deal with sin, blindness, bondage, death, and our inability to be righteous.
Visit #2 — The Lion
To bring judgment, resurrection, restoration, and perfect Kingdom rule.
Without the first coming, we would remain guilty. Without the second, the world would remain broken.
And we’re right —
We cannot obey, see, or overcome without His Spirit.
Why We Needed His First Coming
All sinned
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
— Romans 3:23 NKJV
Sin brings death
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 6:23 NKJV
We could not save ourselves; But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8 NKJV
He came to save
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
— Luke 19:10 NKJV
To take away sin
Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
— John 1:29 NKJV
Why We Needed His Spirit
We cannot obey the Sermon on the Mount in our flesh.
We need new birth and His Spirit’s power.
Born again
Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
— John 3:3 NKJV
Spirit transforms us
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
— Titus 3:5 NKJV
We become His righteousness and obey out of love.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
— 2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
We can only obey through Him
Without Me you can do nothing.
— John 15:5 NKJV
Why He Must Come Again
To judge and reign
This same Jesus… will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.
— Acts 1:11 NKJV
To destroy evil
He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron…
He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
— Revelation 19:15 NKJV
To redeem creation
Creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption.
— Romans 8:21 NKJV
To bring His kingdom
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
— Matthew 6:10 NKJV
Why He Freed Us First
Set captives free
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind…
— Luke 4:18 NKJV
Open blind eyes
That they may receive their sight, …and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.
— Acts 26:18 NKJV
Overcame the world
Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
— John 16:33 NKJV
To give truth and life
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.
— John 14:6 NKJV
Summary
He came first to save us, redeem us, change us, open our eyes, give the Spirit, and make us righteous.
He comes again to complete the Kingdom, judge sin, restore creation, and reign forever.
Without the first coming, we could never be saved.
Without the second coming, the world could never be whole
You are speaking the truth of the Gospel with urgency and clarity:
If Jesus returned the first time as Judge instead of Savior, none of us would survive.
We desperately needed Him to save us, cleanse us, and give us His Spirit before He returns to judge thoughts, motives, and hearts.
Because without grace:
• Anger becomes murder
• Lust becomes adultery
• Hypocrisy becomes rebellion
• Image-conscious religion becomes self-condemnation
We needed His first coming so we can stand in His second coming.
