‘I Feel the Presence of The Lord’

"I Feel The Presence of The Lord" is a personal collection of devotions intended to encourage the reader to seek and see the Lord in every aspect of their life.
The enemy of our souls would have us subscribe to the mentality of being endlessly busy, and therefore it being excusable to relegate God to a Sunday morning church service, if that. Thus, many in our churches today are powerless Christians and/or Christians in whom faith and fellowship with God is sorely wanting.
I Feel The Presence of The Lord is not just a book to be read as part of our daily devotions. It is a collection of thoughts and instructions to inspire the reader to meditate upon the Lord and His Word.

Killing the goose that laid golden egg

September 20, 2011

Obama reminds me of the thug at school who is going to take your lunch money, not because he need it, but because being a bully and thug is what he is.

The point that no one in government or even running for government wants to acknowledge, is that government doesn’t need more, it needs to learn how to do with less.

Yesterday, in his deficit reduction speech in the 20 minutes it took to deliver the speech he said the wealthy had to “pay their fair share,” five elongated times. He also used phrases like, “do their part, do what’s fair,” and played the old it’s not fair to ask nothing of the wealthiest.

Mary Ann Marsh was asked by Stuart Varney on his show this morning, how much is “fair share?” Stuart grilled her and she disgracefully refused to answer his question. But when he asked if 60% was fair, she stammered, blanched and visibly stalled because the was question was proffered to her directly. That made a difference. Shafting you and I is okay, as long as she and her kind can keep theirs.

Why is it so hard for them to come up a percentage that is fair? And as I have repeatedly asked, what would be accomplished if all tax loopholes were closed and their so-called rich paid 99% in taxes on everything including on investment income? Who is foolish enough to think: a) that it would make a difference; b) they wouldn’t still want more?

Consider this situation from my childhood. As a second grader my mother gave me twenty-five cents weekly as an allowance for chores I did. A friend and I would also scour the neighborhood for bottles with refund value – turn them in and collect same.

I can still remember a boy I was permitted to play with, who lived a couple blocks from us. I recall his asking me for a piece of an ice cream sandwich I was eating one day. I gladly shared from what in his perspective was my abundance. The truth is that while I had more than he did, and by all appearances was infinitely better off than he, I only had a lot according to his perspective.

If I didn’t do chores, if my buddy and I didn’t scour the neighborhood for bottles with refund values, I would be broke. My not hustling around for empty bottles, wouldn’t have impacted my living arrangements nor whether or not I had food on the table. My mother saw to that.

Yes, I had more than he did, but I had it because I worked for it. If I gave him more and more of what I personally had and he did nothing for same how would that help him and what would it ultimately do for me? Factor in as well what would happen if my mother became ill or lost her job and wasn’t able to provide a home, food, and clothing for me?

Look at it this way. Let’s say my mother was my company. Let’s say my allowance and turning in bottles for refunds were my salary. True, I had the appearance of having more than him, but it wasn’t in perpetuity, unless I continued to make more as time went on. In order to that I would need more allowance, more bottles, and/or I would to gain skills as I grew up. At that time I could share with him, but I couldn’t share with all the boys in my class or with all the children in his family without it impacting me negatively. I needed a favorable climate to continue to earn and share with him.

That’s the way it is with Obama demanding more of what we have. What happens when our lives are impacted adversely? I personally have very good friends and know other persons who have suffered crushing business losses and job loss since Obama came into office. Who provides for them? The answer no one. We have taken care of ourselves. With our friends we’ve helped one another. We worked harder than at any time in our lives to keep what we worked for all these years, and to regain our ability to live commensurate with the lifestyle to which we were accustomed that allowed us to provide for our families and employees.

It’s not cruel, insensitive, or unfair when to want to keep what we earn. Those persons I know who have what some may call substantial incomes, share generously above and beyond what they pay in taxes, in ways and on causes that the public will never know about. But they are still bastardized as not giving enough.

What Obama and those like Marsh refuse to acknowledge, is that government has a deficit, because it has been irresponsible with what we have given them. But, they are not interested in living within their means, they are interested in disemboweling the goose that laid golden egg thinking they will find a lifetime store of golden eggs. The truth is what they will find is they have killed the goose and there are no eggs.
