My rant today isn’t a rant; it’s a request for prayer. The people of Colorado are suffering unimaginable fear, loss, and devastation due to what is the worst fire season in the state’s history.
This is particularly close to me because we have dear friends who live there. Boulder, Fort Collins, and the foothills neighborhoods of Colorado Springs have had an untold number of homes consumed by the fires. Colorado Springs is being evacuated. A family member there on business was able to leave Monday without incident. I spoke with another friend on Wednesday and his voice broke with emotion as he described in detail what they were experiencing. I have been unable to reach other friends who live there. The Air Force Academy was ordered evacuated.
I know that we have many things on our minds right now, but I ask all to take time each day to lift the people of Colorado in prayer. By nightfall Monday, 32,000 people had fled their homes seeking safety elsewhere. One of the most heartbreaking scenes of the devastation I saw was that of a woman who was unable to get to her home where her husband was alone and unable to drive. The officer could only tell her he understood her dilemma, but he was not permitted to let her enter the fire zone. This was but one tragic account. I do not know the ultimate outcome of her situation, but her grief and frustration touched me deeply as I imagined what it would be like if it were me in a similar situation. Thankfully the fires have claimed relatively few lives, but that makes the loss of lives no less painful.
The High Park fire, west of Fort Collins, was measured at over 87,250 acres destroyed with 55 percent containment and at least 257 homes burned. A fire near Last Chance on the Eastern Plains grew to 45,000 acres in eight hours. Wind gusts of 65 mph and temperatures of 100-plus degrees continue to exacerbate efforts to gain control over the fire.
People need our help. If we are able to house displaced persons, pay for hotel lodging, give to charities, etc., all help is needed. People have not only lost their homes and belongings but many have lost their pets. They’ve lost irreplaceable items, wedding pictures, family artifacts, etc.
My friends, let’s take a moment to reach out to those truly suffering. Our personal problems and the political debates will be there next week. Right now our fellow Americans need our help and prayers.

Now BigH2O Cut him some slack.
He had already arranged a tee time when the fire broke out.
Obo picked a swell time to visit when Colorado’s resources were stretched. He arrogence amazes me and I have to duck tape my head. He pulled the same crap when Florida was having a big football game. He had to fly down here and have all that security for a measley 300 people throwing a party for him and charging for plates. It is his way of thumbing his nose at us.
Evergreen Aviation in McMinneville Oregon owns and operates a hugh plane that has been used successfully in Mexico and Israel and California to help put out fires, yet the USFS refuses to contract it. And they will not say why.
If enough of us question the forest service and demand to know under what authority they allow people to die, homes to burn and timber to be lost when they could use this plane that can do the job of several of theirs, maybe they will be compelled to change their fire fighting tactics to make more sense.
This country has been taking the name of Yahusuah out of everything. There was going to be a “Gay Parade” in this area a few weeks back and just before it happened, we got record breaking rain causing it to “Rain on Their Parade” and flood the area where their parade was to be. ObamaCare got passed and now look at what happened in D.C and sourrounding areas. Electricity for hundred of thousands will not be possible for days as the temperatures rises to 100 degrees. D.C has the strictest gun laws and I thank Yah that Florida has “Stand Your Ground”. I wonder if some of the D.C victims will wish they had a law such as Florida, though you will never hear of looting as an aftermath from our laughable Commie News Source.
I pray for Colorado. I will pray hard. The governor refused water to ranchers to feed their dying crops. I know not much about the Gov. doing this and if I am wrongly angry about his decision for denying them water from their capped wells, then please set met straight. I am not in your area and can appreciate someone spouting off of something in which they know not all the facts. Prayers for Beautiful Colorado.
One more thing..didn’t obutt have the A.F. play for his gay party at the White House recently? Is the A.F Academy shut down in Colorado? I dunno, trying to see the signs of the times and maybe some warnings. We need to all be “Watchers”.
My prayers are with all those people affected by this tragedy. Nice you brought it up Mychal and get us all praying for them.
Thanks for another one, “Well said.”. Thanks as well for your sensitivity. As a believer, I find myself often in prayer for others.
God bless you in your efforts for all people.
Indeed, we are but one race–the human race.
Thank you, Mychal, for focussing on what is really important right now! We have a friend at the Air Force Academy, and hope to get word soon at the status there from on the ground. And my cousin used to live in Colorado Springs, and is there now with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. What a horrible time for all! I am keeping them all in my prayers, and cannot imagine the horror they are experiencing as they have to evacuate their homes and pray they are spared.
Thank you Mychal. I spoke to a friend there last night and when I said I would pray for them, he said that is what we need. My family lives there too so I am thinking about them constantly and trying not to worry. I find these kinds of tragedies though bring out the best in good people and it is always uplifting to witness.
God, please give them comfort and strength to carry on, and please bring good people around them to help with whatever they need.
The horror can’t even be imagined. I join you in prayer – lift our heartfelt hope and faith to the universe – for all the victims of this horrible fire, including the forest dwellers – the animals who can’t escape.
Thank you Mychal. You always say the right thing at the right time. Bless you all.
Agree Mychal. My cousin and his wife live in “The Springs” and were mandatorily evacuated Tuesday. Based upon the fire burn location they are pretty sure they have no home to go back to.
Well spoken Mychal! Pray to God to help us, not to take care of it for us. No one can deny that we, collectively, are trying to deal with this tragedy as best we can.
Hundreds of firemen are risking their lives daily doing battle on the ground with this horrible natural disaster (some say there has been arson involved). Dozens of flights are being made in the attempt to control the fire(s) via chemical means. While I haven’t heard them yet, I’m sure there are tales of private individuals helping others unable to take care of everything that must be done in evacuation. In my mind we are doing everything that we can think of to help ourselves.
Praying for help in this instance for these brave and unfortunate beings seems the right usage of prayer to me. Naturally, any prayer of thanks for our blessings is always appropriate.
This too shall pass, but unless we have experienced this, we cannot know the mental pain they are going through. Sure, insurance will rebuild the houses, but they cannot rebuild the homes. Family treasures, be they no more than photographs of great grandparents, are being lost. Perhaps priceless works of art are forever gone, never to be enjoyed again. But consider the horrible pain of those that are being forced to leave beloved pets behind to fend for themselves. As pet owners, we have taken the responsibility on of caring for them. No matter the reason, we must feel that we have failed them, failed a dearly loved member of the family.
I have a friend that lives in Colorado Springs. I cannot contact her to see if she and her pets are safe and to ask if there is some way that I can help, even if it’s only comfort. That is a very minor pain for me. What will I eventually learn? How will I handle the news if it is bad? Not that my worries are anything compared to these directly affected. Still, it is a small demonstration of how even those not directly affected are hurt.
I’ll join you in praying for help for these people. It’s the very least I can do.
Amen.
