Support Rallies For Chick-Fil-A: Are Dangerous Cocktail For Obama

I, along with my son and my best friend and his wife, had dinner at Chick-Fil-A last evening. We went as a show of support and to show our opposition to Obama’s vicious assault on free speech and private enterprise.

I do not eat chicken–and no it’s not because I’m a vegetarian–it’s because I hate chickens and chicken, (truth be told, I’m not particularly fond of eggs either, albeit I do eat them on occasion). It was my first time in a Chick-Fil-A, but those with me had frequented them before. And, if you are wondering what I bought to eat, I had a chocolate chip cookie and a large iced tea.

The thing that struck me as I moved about listening to the conversations, and talking to people in line around us, was that the common complaint was enough is enough. The people I talked to and eavesdropped on spoke about attacks on the church and on the people of faith in general. The first tee-shirts that caught my eye upon arriving were worn by a husband and wife, and had a picture of the “Cross” with the phrase “This shirt is illegal” above it.

It took us approximately 90 minutes to get through the door and another 35 minutes or so to receive our order. The crowd of several hundred people was festive and celebratory. I gave special attention to see how the children and babies were handling the wait–and I can tell you that I did not hear nor witness children crying, screaming, or acting out. The people were friendly. There were no strangers that I observed because the people were all talking congenially amongst themselves and the others there.

I, along with my son and my best friend and his wife, had dinner at Chick-Fil-A last evening. We went as a show of support and to show our opposition to Obama's vicious assault on free speech and private enterprise.

I spoke to two couples on a wide range of subjects from Christ to politics. I overheard others talking about any number of things: from what their pastor had said, to the husband’s work, to their vacation. Americans of every color and sexual persuasion were there, that’s right I personally observed and overheard the conversation between two homosexual men, and in the course of conversation, was told by someone else that they had seen two other men who looked and sounded like homosexuals.

I did not hear coarse vulgarities. I did not hear complaints about waiting. I did not get a sense of people being frustrated at having to wait; as a matter of fact, I heard several people saying that they came expecting to wait. I should also mention that the restaurant lot was immaculate. There was no littering.

But there was one thing that was consistent throughout the crowd. I personally moved in and out among no fewer than a hundred people and the one thing that I repeatedly heard was “Enough is enough.” There was a palpable undercurrent that people were blaming Obama for this attack and they were counting the days to vote him out. I am not exaggerating; as festive as the crowd was, the contempt for Obama and his policies was tangible–followed closely by disgust for the media. I digress to say that the entire time we were there, not one media outlet was present. Not the local television news reporters, no radio, no print media.

It is important to note, as well, that I did not hear people saying untoward things about Obama nor did I hear them saying derogatory things about homosexuals.

Which brings me to my point. People are not looking at Obama and hating him because he’s half-a-Kenyan; they’re looking at him saying “Enough is enough.” I heard people speak in opposition of homosexual marriage, but I did not hear one word or hateful reference made about homosexuals.

In my opinion, that is what made the rallies to show support for Mr. Cathy the Chief Operating Officer of Chick-Fil-A such a threat to Obama and those who support anti-traditional values. What I heard from friends who attended other rallies to support Chick-Fil-A was almost exactly the same thing. That means these people are not acting on emotion; they are rational people who have evaluated what is being done and are resolute in putting an end to it.

That is a lethal cocktail of contempt for Obama, his policies, the radical homosexual agenda, and the mayors of San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston as they hypocritically attack free speech, free thought, the expansion of business and the creation of jobs.

I didn’t see Tea Party signs, but I heard the words “freedom of speech” and “Who is Obama to tell me” and “enough is enough” over and over. I spent money at Chick-Fil-A and I would eat rocky mountain oysters before I would eat chicken.

The rally to support Chick-Fil-A showed more than just objection to Obama. It showed there is a current spreading across America that the media isn’t reporting and that arrogant politicians on both sides of the aisle are ignoring. And they are doing it to their own peril.

You can only push people so far before they turn and push back. I believe the rallies that took place across America, in support of Mr. Cathy and his family’s restaurants, give very strong indication that there is a quiet cacophony of ever-growing indignation toward Obama and all that he and his ilk represent.

Glad I found your writings. On the Chik-fil-A issue you wrote exactly what I have been trying to express to a liberal friend. We, the so called “silent majority” are fed up with having our rights stepped on. I don’t hate gay people, although I do admit I was disgusted to see two men kissing while holding a small child, but do stand on the belief that marriage is a sacred bond between a man & a women. Thank you again, I look forward to reading more of your work.

A friend recently told me of your writings, Mr. Massie. After reading some, I’m sorry it took so long to discover your work.

Liberals always believe in Free Speech…as long as you agree with them. The activist strategy of forestalling debate by intimidation, interuption, name calling and labeling is getting more shrill as the left feels their power waning. Regardless of what laws are passed, marriage is between a man and a woman(If we pass a law to call the Sun something else, is it still not the Sun?) The fact that so many reacted vociferiously to a man’s statement of his beliefs in response to a question confirms the insecurity of their position. And it makes them uncomfortable. The term “Hater” is applied just like the term “homophobe”. It is intended to put one on the defensive by labeling one something derisive. As others have stated here, If the left truly believed half of what they said, they wouldn’t feel the need to offend and intimidate to try to win an argument.

I am so proud that we have stood up with a mighty voice and said “enough is enough”. That sounds a little melodramatic even to me but, gosh darn it, I mean every word.

I get the giggles every time I hear Rahm Emanual saying that Chick-Fil-A doesn’t fit with Chicago’s values. Gee, beyond political corruption, what are “Chicago values” anyway? I was pleasantly surprised that Nanny Bloomberg declined to jump on that train. Guess he was too busy hiding the baby formula.

I have written and tweeted this many many times: Why do people keep saying Republicans want to tell me what to do when it’s Democrats/Socialists who want to tell me what to eat, where to eat, what to drive, where to smoke (I don’t but you get the idea), how much soda to drink, and what to pack in my child’s lunch.

    Enough certainly is enough!

    Mychal,

The replys have said it all. My husband,I and friends ate at Chick Fi La on Wednesday and we waited about40 minutes in line and were in the store for a total of about an hour. The bell sounding for a free meal went off several times. We eat at the Chick Fi La in Tyler and Longview , Tx quite a lot. They are always crowded. They give free senior drinks to any one that just happens to stop by. You don’t have to buy anything. We noticed also that people were saying, We’ve had enough. That was a very pleasant experience and if they had run out of food, we would have still enjoyed it. We went to make a statement for free speech and to support our Christians values. We have gay friends and they do not act like the ones that are causing so much hate . We need to remove all of the ones that we can in our government that are not Christians, Republicans or Democrats. Thank you Mychal for your service to our country. Please tell everyone that this may be our last chance to vote to keep our freedom as we know it. Lets sent Mr Obama back to Chicago.

While I am not a fan of Rick Warren’s teachings/particular understanding of the Bible, this quotation is thought-provoking. I do not know the context of this quotation but it certainly is applicable.

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”-Rick Warren

AMEN, Mychal. I so appreciate your journalistic approach – and it’s sad (but not surprising) that the media has largely ignored the support that Chick Fil-A has among many Americans.

What continues to bother me, though, is this current political atmosphere that’s been created wherein you can’t disagree with a liberal without being labeled “hateful.” In what you, I, and many others witnessed at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, there was no “hatred” – simply disagreement. It’s sad and frankly dangerous for our political system when logical debate can be so easily dismissed and swept aside with prejudicial labels. I hope that this week’s flap over Chick Fil-A will help convince people that just because we disagree with homosexuals on some issues does not mean we HATE them.

God bless you, and keep up the great work!

  15. Kwatz August 3, 2012 at 3:19 pm #

Bravo. Well said. For too long, the conservatives and the liberals have exchanged roles. The liberals, who represent a scant 20% if the electorate, have acted like they represented the plurality the conservatives actually do represent, with their 40+% share. NO MORE. Sleazy politics/politicians, a corrupt media shilling for the liberals, and wealthy liberal puppet masters bent on destroying this country/way of life we love, have finally done something heretofore hasn’t been done, lit the fires of fanaticism in the conservatives. No longer will we be only concerned with supporting our families and ceding the political process to the liberal hordes. Their lies, supported by the corrupt media have galvanized conservatives. We will never again sit back and take what they dish out. Chik-fil-a appreciation day is the first, of many I hope, effort by conservatives to counter the fascistic, freedom robbing, Alinsky tactics regularly deployed by liberals. Wimpy corporations may soon be faced with grim consequences of what can happen the next time they decide to bend to the whims of Color of Change, Media Matters, Demos…Obama is in deeper trouble than the media would have us believe. The polls are calling the race tight, within the margin of error. The same polls that had Walker in deep trouble right before he won by 7. Now that conservatives are united, media/political dishonesty will serve to further foment their activism. Look out liberals, the conservatives have come to claim the rightful role their numbers represent. We are sending notice to businesses that you needn’t fear the wrath of the 20% when you have the active support of the more-affluent 40%+.

  16. John McClain August 3, 2012 at 12:24 pm #

I did not go out to Chick Fil A solely because I have multiple sclerosis, and cannot wait for my health’s sake. I have written extensively, and received extensively on this subject, and have received comments on the Wendy’s operator who put a sign in front of His Franchise, here in North Carolina saying he supports the right of all to free speech, and the corporate reaction, telling him to cease and desist.
I will be writing to Wendy’s in the next week, to tell them they got it wrong, and as a family oriented business, with a very similar face and personal aspect, they need to cleave to American principle, not alinsky tactics of divide and eliminate.
Something I’ve gotten from all I’ve seen and read is this has been all about the left having gone too far over the top. No matter how it is couched, no matter who was talking about it, the issue was the fact no one was insulted, no one was diminished, the only thing brought to issue was the simple fact that the Founding family of this restaurant is Christian, and when asked specifically about it, held that marriage is a creation of God, and he could not support a perspective violating his religious tenets.
Something I got from Mychal’s experience as he tells it, is we have a unique opportunity here, in this, and we should make the most of it. Specifically, the absence of the press means we are very close to the point where there is absolutely nothing in “the press” of value to us, and at that point, it can easily topple, as the new media, run by individuals, like print was in 1750, will subsume “the press” and our keeping control of the internet, We, The People, refusing to allow government control, is what will make that come about.
Much of what is done on the left is not countered at all because it is so rude and objectionable, even acts to counter it are rude and objectionable, and in this, we are coming to a point where the left either has to turn 180 and suddenly become responsible and control rhetoric, antithetical to all their principles, or there will be no “undecided” left on the fence, and they will find no one to attract, and everyone on one side or the other. At that point, it will be clear they don’t represent anyone but a sickly minority of people who refuse to be self responsible and self-assessing, and will find they don’t even like each other.
Every tactic of offense has a point at which it ceases to be effective in the fight, and if not tossed back, and new tactics chosen, ends up bringing on the loss. That this is true to a greater extent in civic battles of words and emotions than in battles of guns and bombs should make perfect sense, people don’t forget the disdain they’ve been shown, and seldom forgive it unless it is acknowledged.
Except with a completely derogated people without any remnant of society left, every people have a point where they won’t tolerate the attack even on those they don’t like, and while our culture has been driven down that it has taken this level to bring us to simply gather and refuse to accept the level and language of discourse, calling it evil and hatefilled, while simply standing on American principles had to happen.
We, the Americans who hold to our first and founding principles, must take this sign for what it is, and get encouraged, get happy, and go into this fight with the left again, but with a smile of peace on our face, the certain knowledge right will win, and the evil and deliberate hate did not have its way this time, and we shall not let it take the field the next time either, nor the time after that.
I never much liked my gay cousin, because he was loud, rancor, confrontational, and flamboyant. While he was alive, he was part of the family, and he was welcome, we had good friendly conversation on all subjects, including religion and homosexuality, and of course on AIDS, because he was dying of it. While we disputed some issues, none the less, we were family, and I loved him, and remain fond of his memory.
It is up to each of us to be who we choose, and do as we find cause to believe is right. Nothing need move us to war against each other, but there are always those who will use such issues as their means to foment war for their own gain in power, money and influence.
Gay marriage is an issue solely because government usurped marriage as a way to calculate taxes, and in doing so, set us up to fight with each other. It’s time we take that back from the government, and while we’re at it, take government into custody, have our Military hold it, and since it has no connection to the Constitution, re-constitute a new federal government, hold special elections, re-establish the Republic, under a law abiding government, and then separate the sheep from the wolves, see the sheep guilty of civil crimes indicted and adjudicated, and the wolves, guilty of High Treason, set aside for military tribunals, held on the National Mall, with a gallows standing in front of the White House, not for the first time.
The mix of people who gathered all across the Nation for principle shows we need to stop this illegal central government in its tracks, and take our proper Stance as Sovereign Citizens, revoke our consent from this criminal government, and fulfill our right and our Duty to posterity, and simply use the Constitution as it was intended, to constitute a limited federal government, and require the States conform their governments to the strictures of our princiles, and the Constitution. Americans were once the leaders of their homes, their congregations, their towns and villages, States, and ultimately, over our Nation, and as such, example to the world.
All we have to do to return to that position is choose to be what it takes to be a Sovereign Citizen, and have the will to stand up and hold to principle.

My daughter, my grandchildren and myself went to Chick-fil-a appreciation day here in Georgia and it was just as you described in relation to your experience. It was truly something that gave my spirit pause for thought as I had recently become VERY discouraged with the political incorrectness agenda in this country and it seemed as if I was alone in my disgust and sadness about it. It was so heartwarming to see this, it makes me feel like maybe I am surrounded – not by the crazy left but by the likeminded people I want to be surrounded by! Thank you for sharing your observations. We don’t have a Chick-Fil-A near me or I surely would have been there.

I saw a gay woman on Fox today who will be part of the “kiss in” today (can’t they think of something else to do other than shove their lifestyle in our faces – I don’t want to see that) and she said, “How dare he say we are not a family just because I am married to a woman. He can’t say that”. Oh really, he CAN’T say that? Excuse me, yes he can! These people are delusional! Can you tell me why it has to be marriage anyway? What the heck is wrong with a civil union? They can have their rights, but I don’t want them comparing their idea of marriage to mine – it’s totally different! Get another word for it. And no one is saying they are not a family. They are just not a traditional family.

I’m so glad to know MANY other people feel the same way, or at least want to protect free speech, which is obviously NOT what the left wants to do.

    • Jennie August 3, 2012 at 11:15 am #

How did this get to be all about homosexuality anyway. I believe it was the intention of the owners of Chick-fil-A to ensure that their workers got Sunday off. They didn’t intimate they intended for them to go to church; but they did make it possible for them if they wanted to. It was the government of Chicago who raised the issue of homosexuality. I bet they weren’t pleased with the turn out they got. All those people waiting for hours to eat at Chick-fil-A and show their support. I believe they will regret the stink they started.

      • Sue August 3, 2012 at 11:36 am #

WHAT??? This never had anything to do with getting Sundays off. WOW uninformed people really shouldn’t comment. They have always had Sundays off. That is up to company policy.

What Mr Cathy said concerned the “family unit” which to me is laughable since there are so many variations of family units. Wasn’t too long ago that people abhorred inter-racial family units. Now he says that gays can’t be a family unit. BUT he also states, if anyone got past his homophobic comment, that anyone not married to their FIRST spouse was also immoral. Blended families are wrong. Really? I wonder if all of the remarried or divorced people and ones with step children were taken out of those long lines at Chik-a-fil the other day how many would have been left? Not many is my guess.

High morals? Hmm let’s see here – does that mean that all of the people in line that were unmarried were also virgins and saving themselves for marriage? Were all of the married people not using birth control ever?

        Learn to listen and read.

          Sue,

What all the “issues” you presented as evidentiary in your response to Jennie have to do with the issue at hand is puzzling, to say the least.

Upon what do you base your objections?
I’d be more than happy to discuss that issue with you. Let’s begin at the beginning and build from there.

          Thanks,
          A

Sue, you should listen and read as well, you sound uniformed. Mr. Cathy made a comment that he believes in the biblical definition of marriage. That is not a judgment on the definition of a family unit – it speaks to the definition of marriage. I also don’t think he was judging anyone on their use of birth control or whether or not they are virgins. By the way, he serves everyone regardless, so I don’t think he cares what people choose to do – he was simply stating what he believes in. Have you ever heard of freedom of speech? Is he entitled to believe this or are you judging him? Personally, I don’t care what people choose to do and they can have all the same rights as I do, but don’t call it marriage. It is not the same thing, so come up with another word for it. That’s all I ask. Where are my rights to what I believe is the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman? Yes, even if it is a second marriage. No one hates anyone here, we are just tired of other people telling us what we should think.

jennie: it was about being closed sunday as such…the owner was asked a question and conjunctive to them being closed sunday and he responded truthfully pursuant to his personal belief (a belief I might add that I share w/ him)…one would think w/ all of the problems the cities that are telling chick-fil-a they’re not welcome…those espousing solid biblical truths would be the least of them…and no they didn’t expect the outcome to be as it was…in my opinion Mr. Cathy’s faithfulness has been rewarded in that his sales will continue to grow…and he has already stated that would enable him to give even more to the things he supports…

I’ve always been told that there is “power in creating illusions”. Well, in attempting to get society to accept same-sex marriage, the LGBT groups, the entertainment businesses, the media, and supporting politicians, have tried to create the picture that these non-traditional marriages are more sincere, more loving, more devoted, etc. relationships than that of heterosexual couples. Well, people are people. We are now seeing reports of these couples wanting divorce, having custody issues for their children, etc. Interesting, since it is relatively new that these states have made same-sex marriages legal. Only time will show how sincere, loving, devoted, etc. these marriages are compared to traditional marriages. Somehow, I feel the extreme fixation with their cause has more to do with having a temper tantrum that society has said “NO” to them. We will find eventually these non-traditional relationships will have a higher rate of divorce – since many will have been entered to support a cause. But what is new — the high rate of divorce amongst traditional marriages is nothing to write home about either.

On 08/01/2012, I took my family to Chik-fil-A for lunch. The line was incredibly long, but it was well worth it…..there was no fighting, no hate filled words, no negativity AT ALL. The employees were incredible….they had a smile the whole time we were there. People were cognizant about how long they sat at their tables, meaning, they ate quickly and got up so others could sit down….how truly wonderful the experience was. We gulped our lunch down and gave up our table to some folks standing near us….Chik-Fil-A is our favorite fast food restaurant…..will go there any chance we get.

The problem isn’t really with JUST with Obama or George W. Bush, or Bill Clinton folks…the problem is WE as a nation, have turned our backs on God. Some where along the line, we became arrogant…believing WE HAVE THE POWER to We are, I believe, are in judgement mode. We need to get back on track with asking God for forgiveness, guidance and understanding. If you haven’t read the book “The Harbinger”, I highly recommend that you do. Eye opening.

Stay strong, Mychal. You and Dan rock….Heyyy, Mychal for President, Dan for Vice-President….yep, that works for me.

    God’s peace be with you….

Well written and exactly the sentiments most of us are feeling (including me). I am sick of it, I am ready for the amoral, wicked man to go back from where ever he came and take his “charming” wife with him. I want the rest of the liberals and their “destroy America” ideology with them. I want us to adhere to the constitution again, and I want someone in the white house who loves our country, keeps in mind they are a servant of the people not our “dictator”, and I want the ship righted again and all the damaging policies of the evil man shelved permanently.

Perhaps today’s liberals and liberal politicians should be reminded of the definition of that word…in part it is…”tolerant of views differing from one’s own, open minded”. That sure isn’t the case in this day and age.

Thank you once again Mychal for your efforts in keeping We the People informed. I also attended a Chik-Fil-A support rally and heard almost to the word the same basic responses from the other patrons and supporters in attendance. I am not one to wish time away BUT , November and these upcoming elections cannot get here soon enough to suit me.

    • Mychal August 3, 2012 at 7:57 pm #

rod: the people who gathered to show support did so out of love of country and freedom…those gathering for slobberfest today did so out hatred and anger…angry that people oppose being denied the basic constitution right to spk their mind…

Mychal, I joined the Daily Rant email list a few weeks ago. This is your best column yet! Thank you for being a voice for a segment of the population that is underrepresented in media. It is comforting to know that commonsense and reason are not extinct in the USA.

    • Swamprat August 3, 2012 at 12:46 pm #

Elaine, you made a good decision when you joined Mychal’s list. I read his column every day and usually post it on my personal Facebook page. Responses are always positive. Mychal Massie is tops on my list of journalists.
