Children have parents for a reason

Reader advisory warning: If, as Archie Bunker used to say, you are a “bleeding heart liberal,” you should stop reading now. I cannot be responsible for what the following does to your blood pressure. That said, you’ve been warned.

Okay, here it is. You have a child, you own the child. It’s not my job nor is it any other taxpayers job to provide for your child. That said children are sent to school to learn – schools are not defacto provision centers where you send your child to receive supplies, food, clothes, and hygiene. Children are sent to school to learn, but that’s not happening, so in the absence of learning and functional educational instruction – children are ostensibly parented by the schools and provided for by taxpayers. And if sensible people object, they are condemned as uncaring.

It’s easy to make a sob story case to substantiate the level of inappropriateness of this, but that doesn’t make it right.

Our schools are to be centers of learning, but instead our math and science scores are among the lowest in the world. Proper speaking skills and grammar are not taught, children are not taught to write in cursive, they are given allowance for misspelled words as long as they close to being spelled correctly. Teachers themselves, are teaching, despite having failed certification multiple times. Children are co-mingled with problem children and children with learning difficulties.

Male children are dropping out of school in unprecedented numbers, many of those who do not are being advanced grade to grade when in fact they should have been failed times over. They are taught and encouraged in areas that have nothing to do with learning skills. Children are graduated without marketable linguistic skills, without marketable social skills, without marketable employment skills, and without marketable educational skills. The fact that the greater majority of these are black and hispanic, only serves to further exacerbate an already out of control problem.

Public school children today are not being taught and/or prepared for the real world or for that matter even a fictional world. They are being socially engineered, programmed and conditioned to accept social abnormalities and debauchery, and to view government as the answer and their provider. It is an indoctrination process sans the uniforms children were forced to wear under Mao Zedong’s China.

Thus, today, instead of parents being expected to provide (or not) for their children – schools do it for them. Children are given backpacks filled with supplies. They are given three full meals a day and in some instances, they have food sent home with them to snack before bedtime. But they aren’t taught about federalism or Samuel Langhorne Clemmens. They are not taught sentence construction – they cannot tell a transient verb, from a gerund.

Children are sent home with food for the entire weekend. They are given IPads and computers, but they are not given proper instruction.

I’m not saying it is wrong to have a social conscience. I am saying that if a person cannot afford a new automobile, if they claim an inability to pay $10 a month for life insurance, how can they afford a child or children. I am obviously saying it is the school’s job to educate not to be the provider for them.

I am saying that it is a pure canard to suggest there is an epidemic of children going to school too hungry and malnourished to learn. I am saying this is a trick of socialist progressives to engineer children to lives and mindsets that see government as the provider – as the end all, be all.

There is no real empirical evidence to substantiate this myth of starving children. If the parents are receiving government care in the form of welfare, their children are provided for accordingly. These assertions are based on what government defines as level of poverty. Based on those numbers this artificial matrix of hunger and disadvantage is extrapolated and categorized as empirical data.

The care and maintenance of children is the responsibility of the family – it is not to be co-opted by the government. Instead of furthering their dependence on the government, parents should be encouraged to escape the tentacles of government dependence not become more dependent on same.

We need not research far to see the failings of a system that has undertaken this form of educational construct. The greatest tool in the education of children is not multiple meals, free IPads or take home computers – it is competent, qualified teachers who know how to teach.
