Can you have a relationship with Jesus Christ without being born again, filled with the Holy Spirit, and dying to your flesh?
The Helper Nobody Asked For:Here’s the trouble with every command Jesus ever gave: taken alone, they’re a list no one can keep. Love your enemies. Turn the other cheek. Be perfect. Read those on a bad Monday and they sound less like good news and more like a life sentence. Which is precisely why Jesus didn’t leave the list and walk off. He told the disciples that His leaving was actually to their advantage, because Someone better suited to the job was coming to live inside them rather than merely walk beside them.John 16:7 (NKJV) “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”
John 14:16-17, 26 (NKJV) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. … But, the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
The Holy Spirit is not a force, a feeling, or a warm idea about God. He is the third Person of the Trinity — fully God, fully personal. He teaches, grieves, intercedes, and can be lied to or quenched, which is not language Scripture uses about electricity. He was active from the first pages of the Old Testament, empowering judges and artisans and prophets. But His full, permanent, in-you-not-just-on-you ministry arrives with Pentecost, and it changes everything about how obedience actually works.
His work runs in several directions at once. He convicts the watching world and guides the believing heart into truth it couldn’t reach on its own:
John 16:8-13 (NKJV) “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. … However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
He regenerates — brings about a born again birth no one can arrange for themselves, any more than an infant arranges his own first birth:
John 3:5-8 (NKJV) “Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again.” The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.’”
Titus 3:5-7 (NKJV) “…not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
He indwells and seals, which is a legal term as much as a spiritual one — a down payment guaranteeing the rest of the transaction will close:
Romans 8:14-16 (NKJV) “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV) “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
He empowers for witness and holy living, and He intercedes when we don’t even have the words to pray:
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV) “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Put plainly: the Spirit is what turns religion — the outward form — into relationship, the living reality. He is the difference between owning a hymnal and actually being able to sing.
Sooo we have Gods spirit to help us in our time of need which is everyday that’s why we need to take up our cross daily. That’s why Galatians 2: 20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
