If We Can’t Obey God Under Grace, How Could We Under The Law? – Sunday Thought For The Day

The other morning, during my devotions, I was reading in the 20th Chapter of Exodus.  In brief, said chapter focuses on the Ten Commandments.  The fact that today we live under Grace not the Law (i.e., said 10 Commandments notwithstanding) the following thoughts came to my mind.

The First Commandment reads (in my King James Bible): “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” But, isn’t that exactly what we have not only allowed to happen, but encouraged to continuously happen?  We worship actors, actresses, politicians, athletes, and the earth itself as gods (small “g”) before God.  There may be a reflexive apoplexy pursuant to what I just said, but I’m still right.

Having another god before God, is having anything or anyone placed before God Himself and/or valuing anything higher than we value God.  And, in America today that’s what has happened.

The Second Commandment God said: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  Thou shalt not bow thyself down to them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”  But, isn’t that what blacks are doing by elevating George Floyd and Obama to godlike omniscient and omnipotent status?  Aren’t the so-called black churches, those who supposedly pastor, i.e., shepherd them, and the congregations of same defying God’s Law in deifying them and those like them instead of telling them to repent and be saved?

The Third Commandment God said: “Thou shall not take the Name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.”  But isn’t that exactly what’s taking place when the very perversions God condemns are committed and argued as being sanctioned by The LORD God Almighty?  Isn’t that what’s taking place when people stand in the church and praise sinful acts in the name of the LORD?

The Fifth Commandment God said: “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”  But are we not dishonoring our fathers and mothers when we revise history and embrace distortions and lies?  Isn’t that what we are doing when we refuse to forgive our ancestors who repented of their injurious ways?  Isn’t that what we are doing when we do not respect the lives of the elderly, but instead seek “humane” ways to let them die because keeping them alive is deemed to be too costly?

The Sixth Commandment God said: “Thou shalt not kill.”  But, isn’t that exactly what we’re doing thousands of times every day when the innocent unborn children are murdered?  Even though we change the language to say it’s a “women’s health issue” or employ the assignation “fetus” instead of “Child”?

The Eighth Commandment God said: “Thou shalt not steal.”  But, aren’t the churches that support illegal aliens and set up sanctuaries for them aiding and abetting in thievery pursuant to theft of services being committed by illegals? Are not those who support amnesty supporting theft of citizenship?  It isn’t ipse dixit to argue that granting amnesty to illegal aliens is a violation of God’s Commandment “thou shalt not steal” by rewarding the thieves for stealing?

The Ninth Commandment God said: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”  Are we not “bearing false witness” to our children and indeed to adults when we allow lies to be perpetrated as truth pursuant to our Founding Fathers?  Isn’t that what’s being done when people are openly attacked because they oppose sin on moral and/or biblical grounds?

The Tenth Commandment God said: “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.”  Isn’t that what Obama, Mamdani, et al doing and encouraging when they engage in class warfare?  Isn’t that what progressives who attempt to shame students as being privileged based on the lie of skin color?  For every person who just read the preceding and thought to themselves “they are privileged” isn’t that what you’re advocating?

You obviously will notice that I didn’t list all Ten Commandments, be assured it wasn’t because I couldn’t have.  It was because these are the thoughts that came immediately to my mind as I was reading them earlier this week.

You will also notice that for each one I referenced, I wrote “God said.”  That’s because Exodus 20 begins: “And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God…”  I am simply repeating what the Author of the Book I believe to be His inerrant Word iterated.

I should also point out specifically for those who worship at the altar of immiseration and victimology that in Exodus 20:2 God also said: “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”  Shouldn’t the fact that slavery was abolished, along with Jim Crow, qualify as being worthy of praise to the Almighty God juxtaposed to wallowing ad nauseam in inculcated despair?

These are the thoughts that came to immediately to my mind earlier this week.  They forced me to say aloud: can there be any wonder America has sunken to the depths she has?  For all of those who will disagree, what were your thoughts during your quiet time with Jesus this week?
