Our Father In Heaven – Sunday Thought For The Day
The following is from my 2017 book titled: Alone With Jesus, How I start Each Day.
How often I have prayed the following from Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV):
9 …Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
One of the things within this prayer that I have come to embrace very tightly are the words: “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” They mean so much to me because I know that God’s will
is perfect and is always centered upon what is best for us as the children of God.
If God’s will for us as His children is perfect in all ways, and it is, then why would I not want His will to be done here on earth?
Also, why would I not want God to provide me with my daily bread? And to know He has forgiven me as I have forgiven those who have wronged me, how wonderful to know I am free of the burden of hate and ill will? Knowing that by grace through faith in Christ Jesus I am delivered from the evil one, what greater comfort can there be?
I pray to be the recipient of His will on earth as it is in heaven. He sustains me with my daily bread and when I pass from this life into eternity I will spend it with Him. It can be no better than that.
The Lord’s Prayer is a simple prayer, but contained therein is prayer for everything I/we could need or want.
Amen
