Sanctification: Cleansing the Vessel
An uncleaned vessel soon contaminates even pure oil. Sanctification is the steady, sometimes painful, work of becoming fit for the Bridegroom’s presence.
2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
Holiness is not an optional upgrade. It is the will of God for every believer. The oil stays pure only when the vessel itself is being continually set apart—body and spirit, public life and private thought.
Keeping the Lamp Filled
Oil runs low when the lamp is left untended. The daily filling is both commanded and possible.
Ephesians 5:15-18
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.
The wise virgins did not wait until midnight to discover they needed oil. They carried it with them. Being filled with the Spirit is not a one-time crisis experience; it is the continual posture of a heart that keeps yielding, keeps asking, keeps walking carefully. The lamp that stays lit is the one that is regularly refilled.
So, R U Really Ready: since grace without works are dead, but works are to be done through the spirit. However works without the Grace of God are still fleshly DIY and Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 ¶ “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Let’s say that again
‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
We should be aware those are people who thought they were in a good place on the path with God.
