Why Aren’t Children Today More Like Jesus? – Sunday Thought For The Day

As parents have you ever heard your child say that they want to be more like Jesus?  When was the last time we heard our child say: “I want to be whatever pleases God?”

There are many who will scoff at what I’ve just asked, but their scoffing speaks volumes about them.

Children imitate what they see and hear, both behaviorally and mentally.  A child’s understanding of how to imitate Christ, if at all, is based upon how they see their parents live their lives.  The extent to which our children want to please God is based upon the extent that we portray same in the home.

The problem is, many church-going parents and tragically even Christian parents, model behavior(s) that send children the message that being unruly is acceptable.  Behaviorally parents can send the message that pleasing God isn’t synonymous with our careers.  Many times parents model obedience to God as an option, i.e., something they do when it is convenient.

Sadly, many parents by example show that there are things in life more important than church, prayer, reading and studying the bible, and modeling Christ to the best of our ability in everything we do.  We show children that the pleasures and pursuits of the world are more important than God.  We put ungodly pursuits and convenience before God.

It is a truism that in the majority of cases children become what they see at home.  They’re sponges that soak up both the good and bad.  If we’re permissive and smile at untoward behavior when they are young, why would we wonder where that behavior comes from when they are older?  If they watch us live situational ethics in our daily lives, why would we be surprised when they model the same thing?  If we model worldly pursuits to the exclusion of God, why would we be surprised when as adults our children do same?  If we turn our children over to ungodly schools and teachers why would we be surprised when our children suffer the outcome from that menticide?

Yes, there are children who despite the best attempts of their parents to be Godly examples turn away from the “Truth.”  While that happens, I believe the reason it happens more today than in the past is, because parents themselves have copied Godless ways of the world more than they’ve copied Christ.

If the mother is a disrespectful, earthy, contentious, self-centered, always Whenputting her wants first – a female child will copy those patterns of behavior and more often than not a male child will become involved with that type of woman.

If the father/husband is weak, feckless, dishonest, abusive, a womanizer, a lover of pleasure more than discipline more than likely the male child will copy said behavior.

It is the same with the Lucifarian lie that a child wants to change their gender.  How can a child know anything about changing genders unless those thoughts are inculcated into their minds from a very early age?

That said, if it is true that in the majority of instances children become what they see at home, looking at the young people today, consider how bad the environments are the children come from.  If children are our future look very closely at what the future holds for us, should the Lord tarry.

The answer to today’s title is, they’re not, because many parents aren’t.
