The Christian Hallucinogen – Sunday Thought For The Day

If we are true born-again Christians, we are more interested in living our lives in obedience to God’s Word than we are lying to ourselves regarding our walk with Christ.  That means being aware of sin in our lives is more important than feel-good messages from false teachers, who emphasize the ability to live feel-good lives, but who preach little if at all about sin.

Feel-good sermons are the hallucinogen of false teachers.  They preach/teach about living quality and victorious Christian lives, but ignore preaching and teaching about sin.  Those who embrace such false teachers do so because they want to play Christian, but they do not want to abandon the sin in their life.

Therein is the dilemma.  When sin is identified in our lives, it requires a response.  The response can be to avoid the Church and/or persons who preach and teach Christ in truth or the response can be to get on our knees and ask God to deliver us from the specific sin(s).

If we truly desire to follow Christ and live our lives in obedience to His Word, in  the power of the Holy Spirit, consciousness of sin in our lives is paramount.  If we’re not conscious of sin in our lives, how can we confess it and repent of it.  If we want to continue living in sin and deceiving ourselves, God will give us that latitude.  But it comes at a price.

This example will help put it into perspective: Suppose you’re a person who has been waiting years for an organ transplant, because years of hard drinking and/or drug abuse has destroyed your liver or a lifetime of chain smoking cigarettes has damaged your heart and/or lungs and you’re awaiting a transplant.

If you’re fortunate enough to be the recipient of an organ transplant that restores your health and extends your life – would you show your gratitude for the life changing and life restoring transplant surgery by immediately returning to the lifestyle that nearly killed you or would you turn away from it?

Only a fool is willing to risk destroying their lives by returning to their destructively sinful ways like a dog returns to its vomit.

Because of the indwelling work of the Holy Spirit, sin can only have dominion over us if we avoid teaching that points it out in our life, choosing instead messages of good-feelings or a message that encourages us to believe sin for us is different from that which God hates.  I truly pity those who knowingly abandon “Truth” deceiving themselves with the lies of false teachers, because false teaching allows them to continue living in sin without being reminded by those who preach sin, and death from same.
