Remember Who The Constitution Was Made For by Robert Socha

We are in a place in the course of human events that demands thankfulness. The self-evident truth of our equal creation requires us to look introspectively at our ability for self-government. If we cannot control our passions and activities, then living free of the shackles of bureaucratic encroachment remains an unattainable dream. Yet, if we can exercise self-control, the fruit of that will be continued peace, prosperity, and growth.

I remind myself that “our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.” (Adams) Many of us have chosen to ignore those noble precepts that draw us into fellowship with one another and enable us to understand how to overcome the human condition’s depraved nature.

LOVE

Let us love one another, for love never condones sinful behavior yet covers a multitude of sins.

JOY

Being joyful always is a tricky proposition but necessary to pursue happiness, which is a moral obligation.

PEACE

Seeking peace can guard our hearts and minds, protecting us from callous responses to daily events. Finding this peace in the arms of love will strengthen resolve and provide comfort in trying times.

PATIENCE

These “times that try men’s souls” can cause short tempers and outbursts of wrath, yet if we step back for a moment to consider the unknown, we can remember that all of us are engaged in a battle that might have a victorious moment should we choose forbearance.

KINDNESS

Random acts of kindness: preferring one another, opening doors, making way for someone to get in front of you in heavy traffic, can be a unifying incentive.

GOODNESS

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good…” Luke 6:35. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything praiseworthy, think about these things.” Phillippians 4:8

FAITHFULNESS

He who is faithful in the little things will be faithful over big things: Faithful in relationships, faithful in business, faithful in word and deed. Who can find a faithful man?

GENTLENESS

Blessed are the meek. A gentle answer turns away wrath and can diffuse a situation bringing about peace and hope.

SELF-CONTROL

Controlling the impetuous nature of instant gratification is a catalyst for living a fruitful and happy life.

These virtues found in the 5th chapter of Galatians are an excellent avenue toward being thankful.

Thankful people are not angry people. Thankful people do not play the victim and blame others for their situation. Thankful people are sincere, believing the best is yet to come.

I am thankful to the Lord for His manifest promises acting as an anchor for the soul.

I am thankful that our magnificent country has led the world in setting aside a holiday whose express purpose is giving thanks.

I am thankful for the blessing of my beautiful wife and children. It is a comfort and joy to have them by my side.

I am thankful for the rule-of-law, without which we would devolve toward despotism.

I am thankful for a system that offers the ability to create wealth, offering me gainful employment.

I am thankful for food on the table, gas in the cars, conditioned air, and soft beds for sleeping.

I am thankful for every breath, for life, health, and strength.

I am thankful for a renewed mind that can understand history and declare liberty.

I am thankful for the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. I am thankful that some of them gave the ultimate sacrifice, so the birth of this great nation could come forth. I am thankful for the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 who adopted the United States Constitution on September 17th of that year. I am thankful for the freedom we have maintained thus far and for the countless men and women who still value liberty and look to carry her torch to our posterity.

I am thankful for courage to do same.
